PCs Mel Ryder (Rhea Bailey) and Leon Taylor (Dominic Power) are called to a secondary school where they are informed by the sports teacher that one of her students, Lily Walmsley (Amy Lythgoe), has gone missing. The officers visit Lily’s house where they speak to her panicked mother, Maria (Pooky Quesnal). She tells them that she, her new partner Simon Morris (Steven Elder), Lily, and her younger brother recently moved to London from Manchester.

She tells Mel that Lily doesn’t have a boyfriend and that the only other family they have is Lily’s gran, Eileen (Rachel Davies), who Maria is estranged from. Mel pushes her and Maria says that Lily’s father died a year ago and Eileen didn’t approve of Maria moving the family to London with Simon. After a huge argument, Maria banned Eileen from seeing her grandchildren. Back at the station, fears grow for Lily’s safety when CCTV shows her willingly getting into a car with a much older man.

Later, Mel gently questions Lily’s only friend Rebecca (Saffron Coomber), who eventually reveals that Lily had been desperately unhappy and had recently been seen with bruises, but refused to say how she got them. The police soon trace the man that was seen with Lily, but after a wild goose chase, they realise that he is simply a mini cab driver.

As the investigation continues, Leon and PC Millie Brown (Clare Foster) discover that Eileen has been living in London for a month and Lily has been secretly visiting her. The officers trace Eileen to a local cinema, where they find her slouched in a chair after drinking too much. She is taken away in an ambulance and questioned in hospital, where she reveals that Lily was desperate to move back to Manchester. When Eileen told her it wasn’t possible, they had an argument and Lily ran away. She is horrified to hear about Lily’s bruising and begs the officers to find her as soon as they can.

Later that night, a terrified sounding Lily calls Maria and tells her that she is lost in the middle of Leicester Square, but the call cuts out before Maria can get an exact location. Mel and Leon head to the area and desperately begin the search for Lily, among the crowds and bright lights of London. Will they find the frightened teenager before any harm comes to her?
