Jerry Springer returns to host the new series of America's Got Talent. Today auditions come from New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, where performers of every age will be showing off their entertainment skills in front of judges David Hasselhoff, Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan in a bid for the million dollar prize and Vegas contract. Acts include a teenager with a flexible tongue, an 80-year-old tap dancer and a Singing Santa Claus.

America's Got Talent judge Piers Morgan spoke with reporters on Tuesday and promised that the new season of the NBC show will both honor -- and reflect -- the Susan Boyle phenomenon. "From the time [Britain's Got Talent] aired in Britain, thousands more people auditioned in America. She had a big effect on auditions," Morgan said of the U.S. version that debuts June 23. "There will be two or three acts who could have the same impact. After one group performs, there won't be a dry eye in the house."
But there's no replacement for the chanteuse herself, which is why Morgan plans to extend an invite to Boyle to appear on the show. "If she's up for it, what a moment that can be," he says. (An NBC spokesperson tells EW that producers are looking into inviting Boyle on the show.)
Morgan also insisted that he, along with fellow celebrity judges David Hasselhoff and Sharon Osbourne, won't know the identity of the contestants before they come on stage, as was the case on Britian's Got Talent. "If we knew Susan Boyle had a voice like an angel, we wouldn't have been condescending to her," he said of his time judging the U.K. version with Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden. "It's very important to the integrity of the show that the judges not get any warning."
Although Morgan ended up apologizing to Boyle on camera for being too dismissive of her first performance, he doesn't plan to say or do anything differently on the U.S. version if another eccentric (i.e. unconventional-looking) crooner appears center stage. "We try not to sanitize it too much," he explained. "This is an old-fashioned variety talent show. No one is forcing people or holding a gun to their head. And I've never seen evidence of people coming away from the show damaged psychologically."
NBC has confirmed speculation that Mariah Carey is scheduled to perform on America's Got Talent.
The star was first linked to the reality show in February after reportedly being enlisted by husband and host Nick Cannon.
She will appear on the first results episode of the season, which will take place on August 5.
It is not known what track Carey has chosen but it is widely believed that she will perform her new single 'Obsessed' after the music video for the song debuted on last night's episode.
The singer recently dismissed speculation that the 'Obsessed' promo was made in response to Eminem, who sparked controversy after rapping about an alleged relationship with Carey in his track 'Bagpipes From Baghdad'.

Ellen DeGeneres has been announced as the permanent replacement for Paula Abdul on American Idol.
The chatshow host will join fellow panellists Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi as the fourth judge on the ninth season of the Fox reality show.
"I've watched since the beginning, and I've always been a huge fan," she said.
"So getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I'll save from not having to text in my vote."
Mike Darnell, president of Alternative Entertainment for Fox, added: "She is truly one of America's funniest people and a fantastic performer who understands what it's like to stand up in front of audiences and entertain them every day.
"We feel that her vast entertainment experience, combined with her quick wit and passion for music, will add a fresh new energy to the show."
DeGeneres will join the panel once the audition stages for the upcoming season are completed.

Sorry, you are right. My apologies. :o
Kevin Skinner has been crowned as the winner of America’s Got Talent.
The country singer and farmer from Mayfield, Kentucky received the most votes on the NBC programme and was reduced to tears by his win.
He said: "I've always loved to perform. I want to go out there, and give 'em the best show I can."
Earlier in the evening, the final ten performers joined R&B singer Thelma Houston on her disco classic 'Don’t Leave Me This Way', while Leona Lewis, Shakira, Rascal Flats and the cast of Cirque du Soliel's Banana Shpeel also appeared on the finale.
Britain's Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle also sang a rendition of The Rolling Stones' 'Wild Horses'.
The ten acts were whittled down to five finalists, including Voices Of Glory, Recycled Percussion, Texas Tenors and Barbara Padilla.
Ousted Sykesville singer Drew Stevyns told host Nick Cannon: "I couldn't ask for anything more than this, these people really deserve to be here, this has been the best time of my life, and I just thank you for the experience."
In the end, Skinner bested Padilla in the final two, while Recycled Percussion placed third, the Texas Tenors took fourth place and Voices Of Glory were the fifth place finishers.
Skinner won $1 million and the chance to headline a Las Vegas show at The Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The event will be hosted by former America's Got Talent host Jerry Springer in October.
