Michael Caine’s The Italian Job is to be remade by Abbas and Mustan Burmawalla, the duo behind last year’s action thriller Race.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the new feature will be a joint project by TIFC-Studio 18 and the American Viacom.

At the Cannes Film Festival, spokesman Sandeep Bhagava commented: "We hope the Indian film version of The Italian Job will continue to excite and entertain international audiences."

Previous plans for remakes have landed Bollywood filmmakers in controversy. In April, Warner Bros threatened to file a lawsuit against a proposed Bollywood remake of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Speaking to The Times of India, UTV Motion Pictures CEO Siddharth Roy Kapur said: "Many Hollywood studios themselves have plans for the Indian market. They're probably planning to remake some of their own films in India. So, they feel it is best to warn those who may cross the line.''

Not sure this classic will work as an Indian version :hmm:

Another remake? They should leave original movies as they are. The second Charlie and The Chocolate Factory was awful. Haven't seen the second Italian Job but I imagine it's not a patch seeing as it's not even set in Italy.
