DC Grace Dasari (Amita Dhiri) and Trainee DC Will Fletcher (Gary Lucy) attend the scene of an armed robbery at a jewellers. The shaken owner tells them that a customer attempted to grab the gun off of the suspect and was hurt in the process. The officers trace the ‘have a go hero’, Adrian Butler (Cian Barry) to St Hugh’s and he tells them that instinct took over when the suspect tried to grab his bag.
As Will and Grace leave the hospital, they realise they need to question him further but as they reach his bed, they discover their main witness has disappeared. Back at the station, Adrian’s prints are lifted from the jewellers and run through the system in order to find his address. Sun Hill officers are shocked when they discover that his real name isn’t Adrian, but Justin Reed – and he’s wanted for murder.
DI Neil Manson (Andrew Lancel) leads a briefing and tells the troops that Justin has been on the run for four years. He and a friend, Barry Usher (Tom Reynolds), broke into the house of Diane Anderson and during the robbery, Diane was murdered. Barry claimed that Justin killed Diane and while he went to prison for four years, Justin ran away to South America.
Neil is later informed that the armed robber from the jewellery shop is Andrew Wesley (Dean Ashton) and arranges for C019 to arrest Andrew in the local boxing club where he is training. Once inside, CO19 surround Andrew while Neil demands to know where his bag is. The DI is furious when he discovers there is no jewellery in it. Have they got the wrong man?
Elsewhere, DS Max Carter (Christopher Fox) and D.C. Stevie Moss (Lucy Speed) visit Justin’s sister, Rebecca (Emma Stansfield) and her father, Henry (Struan Rodger) who claim not to have seen or spoken to Justin in the last four years.
However, Max and Stevie later realise they have been lied to when Rebecca finally confesses that Justin got in contact with her when he discovered Henry had Leukaemia and asked for her help. Rebecca tells the officers that her brother had nothing to do with Diane’s murder and that she no longer knows where Justin is. A suspicious Max tells Stevie they should follow Rebecca when she leaves her house and the pair are stunned to see Rebecca pick Justin up on her motorbike. Stevie jumps out of the car and desperately tries to persuade Justin to turn himself in.
Just when it seems that Justin is ready to go with Stevie, Max throws himself into the situation, forcing Rebecca to ride off with her brother. Jumping back into the car, Max demands that Stevie put her foot down and go faster to catch up with the bike. Stevie pulls back when things start to look dangerous, but as they round a corner, they hear an almighty crash and discover the motorbike has hit a wall and Justin’s life hangs in the balance. Are Max and Stevie responsible for a suspect’s death?

The morning after suspected murderer Justin Reed’s (Cian Barry) accident, Superintendent Heaton (Daniel Flynn) and DI Neil Manson (Andrew Lancel) run through the case. Neil explains that Justin and Barry Usher (Tom Reynolds) were involved in a robbery that went wrong and ended up in the murder of Diane Anderson four years previously. Justin went on the run, but came back after learning that his father had leukaemia.
Heaton warns Neil that DS Max Carter (Christopher Fox) and DC Stevie Moss (Lucy Speed) will be subject to a rigorous enquiry as Justin is now in a coma following the crash the previous day. As Stevie and Max continue their investigation into Justin’s possible guilt over Diane’s murder, Stevie struggles to keep her emotions in check. Convinced that he is innocent, she is determined to clear his name, but Max is certain he is guilty.
Max and Stevie visit Justin’s sister Rebecca (Emma Stansfield) and her father Henry (Struan Rodger) in hospital. Henry tells the officers that Justin was set up on the night of the burglary and had nothing to do with the murder. Elsewhere, Barry is brought in for further questioning about the night of the murder and DC Grace Dasari (Amita Dhiri) becomes concerned when Stevie completely loses her temper with him.
Meanwhile, Max is interrogated by Heaton about the previous day’s events and Max is left rattled. As the investigation continues, Max and Stevie pull together and are shocked when they discover that Barry was paid by Diane’s son to murder her and Justin was set up. Will Justin pull through? And will Stevie and Max keep their jobs at Sun Hill?
