ITV has recommissioned Wild At Heart for a fifth series.

The show, which launched in 2006, will return to ITV for a 10-episode run.

It was previously feared that the programme could be axed after ITV cancelled dramas including Wire In The Blood and suspended production on Heartbeat and The Royal in a bid to cut costs.

The new episodes will see Danny and Alice continue to face challenges in their romance, culminating in Alice making a difficult decision about her future at Leopard's Den.

Stephen Tompkinson, Dawn Steele and Hayley Mills are returning for the new series, which will begin filming in South Africa in July.

I'd rather watch Wire in the blood - real thrilling, quality drama - than waste money on flying 'stars' out to Africa to essentially play with a load of animals. The money it must cost for that! And the hotel bills...

I completely agree with you, but it's a popular show - I've only watched it once and thought it was terrible, but it is one of the highest rated dramas left on ITV. ITV always seem to axe the dramas I like though :(

They could have saved Wire In The Blood, if ITV scheduled it correctly. Wild at Heart achieves 7 million +. Wire In The Blood could have easily matched that if shown on a Sunday/Monday night, as part of ITV's thriller strand.

How can they justify that paying for the cost to film in South Africa is cheaper than axing other dramas. Nothing against Wild At Heart but in the current climate the most expensive dramas to make should be the ones axed.

Let them do the filming in the Safari parks across the UK if the weather's sunny we'll never know the difference.
