I was honestly shocked at the comments.. I work for a multi national company and there is no way we could just employ Irish people as the level of languages in our country is not enough, we have to bring in native speakers.. And in all honesty, the reason there is very little Irish in that queue is because they do feel working in a shop is beneath them..

Ireland like the UK was very glad of all the migrant workers to come in and do the jobs the locals didnt want when their economies were doing well. When the Celtic Tiger was roaring you could hardly find a native Irishman or Woman working in any of the service industries as they thought they were too good for that. Now that jobs are scarce its the immigrants who are feeling the brunt of peoples anger. If they were good enough to work when things were good they are surely just as entitled to work when things are bad.

The irony isn't lost: apparently Polish workers returning to Poland are complaining that the Chinese have taken their jobs. The problem is with capitalism, not the fact that migrants are doing the lowly paid jobs.

Most of the world would have been better off if we didn't have the expansion of easy credit leading to a illusion that wealth creation is as easy as buying a house and watching it go up in value.

I loved my time in Ireland which has some of the friendliest people in the world.

That's the thing if companies were not able to pay people for pennies they wouldn't hire "cheap" employees.. it is not foreign nationals fault that they work for that wage.. like everyone else, they also want to earn a living
