PI for the rest of the week follows:

Tuesday 12 May 7pm

Aaron (Danny Miller) is left alone at the garage and decides to accept Eli’s (Joseph Gilgun) offer to join him on a job. The pair break into Holdgate Farm in order to steal cast iron fireplaces for scrap metal. As they are taking the fireplaces away from the house Cain (Jeff Hordley) catches them in the act. He questions their stupidity as the sound of police sirens can be heard in the distance. Cain covers for Eli and Aaron and tells them he’ll deal with the police. He’s taken in for questioning and DC Henshall (Michael McKell) beams in anticipation that he’ll finally make Cain pay for all his crimes. However, after a private chat Cain is allowed to walk free.

Meanwhile, Debbie (Charley Webb) is hurt when Cain suggests they take Sarah away to start a new life and accuses him of lying to her about being back for good. Lisa (Jane Cox) notices she’s upset and reassures her that she has to trust Cain as he’s her best bet of getting Sarah back. Distraught at hearing of Cain’s arrest, Debbie is confused when he’s freed. Back home she demands an explanation about how he was able to get out of his latest mess. As Debbie wells up at the thought that one day she’ll wake up to find Cain gone, Cain imparts his darkest secret – he’s a police informant. As Debbie is flabbergasted at the news, Cain feels the weight of his personal guilt.

Also, David (Matthew Wolfenden) has a bad feeling about Nathan (Lyndon Ogbourne) as Leyla (Rokhsaneh Ghawam-Shahidi) prepares for her first day at Home Farm. On a busy morning she gets a hard time from Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) because of her relationship with David, while Nathan gets wind of her financial problems. When he makes a large donation to her mum’s nursing home on Leyla’s behalf she asks him to retract it. Nathan refuses as Leyla is torn as she struggles to read his intentions. Nathan decides to make it very clear what he wants so Leyla strips from her paid-for suit and marches out of Home Farm in her underwear. David is furious to find out that Nathan set up Leyla and vows to fight a clean campaign if it kills him.

Nevertheless Paddy stands up to Cain and impresses him with his front. Later, Chas catches Aaron with some money earned from Eli’s (Joseph Gilgun) job and berates Cain in the Woolpack. She’s shocked when Cain admits that Paddy has already spoken to him and agrees to back off. Chas is amazed and quietly impressed with Paddy. Can Paddy become the positive male role model that Aaron needs?

Thursday 14 May 7pm

Rodney (Patrick Mower) can’t put his finger on the reason why Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) is still unwell. He speaks with Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) and is surprised when she lies that she knows nothing. Assuming that the reason for her upset is Jimmy (Nick Miles), Rodney is more concerned than ever that a break-up has caused such a shift in her demeanour. Rodney begs Jimmy to be civil to Nicola as she’s taking things so badly. However, after having her first scan, Nicola drops a bombshell and shocks Laurel by revealing she intends to have an abortion. Can Laurel convince her friend she’s making a mistake?

Meanwhile, David (Matthew Wolfenden) worries that he can’t match his father politically and has to be persuaded by Edna (Shirley Stelfox) and Turner (Richard Thorp) that his campaign is worth fighting for. Pollard (Chris Chittell) meets with Nathan (Lyndon Ogbourne) who expresses his fear that David is monopolising the popular support. The other villagers overhear the conversation and soon an argument develops about why the candidates are standing. With a sense of regret Pollard humiliates David by suggesting that his son is compensating for his own feelings of inadequacy. Hurt and drunk David makes an idiot of himself by singing whilst standing on a Woolpack table in an attempt to embarrass Pollard . He finishes the song and then falls off the chair as his electioneering hits an all time low. Has David blown his big chance?

Also, Val (Charlie Hardwick) forces Maisie (Alice Coulthard) to liven up the Woolpack lunchtime trade. Maisie puts a few suggestions forward which Val quickly bats away, before making an executive decision to hold a quiz. Maisie is not amused when Val orders her to plan the questions. Later that day Sandy (Freddie Jones) mischievously peeks at the questions when Maisie leaves them lying around. Is cheating afoot?

Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) is fearful ahead of her appointment at the clinic. While Nicola packs a bag Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) desperately hopes she’ll reconsider but can’t find the words to convince her. Eventually she can’t contain her emotion and pleads with Nicola to preserve her baby’s life, but Nicola is indignant. Laurel is in pieces and blurts out the secret to Rodney (Patrick Mower) who confronts his daughter. After a deep conversation Laurel and Rodney are relieved when Nicola can’t go through with the abortion. Nicola makes it clear she doesn’t want Jimmy to know about the baby. Will the support of her family and friends be enough to carry Nicola through her pregnancy?

Elsewhere, Cain (Jeff Hordley) gives Aaron (Danny Miller) some money to keep Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) occupied for the day. Aaron convinces Victoria to wag school and he takes her for a day out. Cain deviously calls Victoria’s school to report her behaviour. Victoria feels guilty when the school truancy officer turns up at home. Andy’s (Kelvin Fletcher) angry that her stupidity may affect his custody battle, but Victoria promises never to do anything like this again. Is Andy losing his grip on life at Butler’s?

Meanwhile, Sandy (Freddie Jones) is brimming with confidence on the day of the pub quiz. Maisie (Alice Coulthard) plays the role of quizmaster and the other participants grow frustrated when Sandy doesn’t hide that he’s getting every question right. Natasha (Amanda Donohoe) smells a rat and discovers that Sandy has the answers written on his arm. She joins his team and demands he play fair. The pair win the quiz and Sandy admits to Maisie that he planned to cheat before Natasha’s intervention. Maisie is thoughtful when Sandy mentions she’s lucky to have such a woman as a mother.
