EVIL Nick Cotton sends Albert Square’s caff up in flames — then makes an explosive exit,
The villain is holding show favourites, including Bradley Branning, hostage inside the greasy spoon when a blast rips it apart.

In the aftermath Nasty Nick (John Altman) cannot be found — and viewers will have to wait to see if he has survived. Nick’s move comes as his scheme to use his daughter to scam mum Dot for cash begins to unravel.

An EastEnders source said: “Nick is causing chaos and all his lies are catching up with him.

“He goes into the caff and a fire is started, Bradley is one of the key people involved — but will Nick live or die?”

June Brown, who plays Nick’s mum, has already revealed she hopes the character does not leave the show yet again, leaving Dot without family.

She said: “Every time I get some they take them away from me.”

Nick’s shocking action, to be seen on the BBC1 soap over the summer, means the caff will get a new look. After the fire Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) uses his insurance money to turn it into a retro diner.

He might be pleased, because he can claim on his insurance and perhaps can then build a snazzy new cafe :) Ian will make the most of it, I am sure

Ian always makes the most of a bad situation - usual for his own financial gain lol.

Got to love Ian getting a new Retro cafe, if only they could retro him up a bit, I think he has looked the same for the last 20+ years lol. Ok I remember him and that leather jacket.....what a look.... :rotfl:

Nick Cotton gets his comeuppance when he tries to cause trouble for the Mitchell clan.

The Albert Square waster causes *Billy and Phil to have a massive bust-up – but then they turn on him.

It all starts when badboy Nick blackmails Billy for £200 by threatening to tell Jay the truth about his dad’s death.

Our Walford source said: “Billy has felt guilty ever since Jason died because he knows that instead of saving himself he could have done more to help Jason.

“He’s terrified Jay will find out about it and is under pressure to come up with the pay-off.”

Heading back to the Vic, desperate *Billy takes £100 from Phil’s *wallet – but Phil walks in and catches him.

In the confrontation that follows, Phil hits Billy, blaming him for stealing all the cash that’s missing from the pub’s till.

Our source said: “Billy reveals Nick is blackmailing him and Phil decides to give him a chance.

“The two are cousins after all – and the Mitchells always stick together.

“They have a frank talk and Billy says he’s doing everything he can for Jay. He *admits the guilt surrounding Jase’s death is getting too much for him.”

Later, after downing a bottle of whisky, Phil bumps into Nick.

Leading him up the alleyway, Phil bundles him into the barrel store of the Vic *before really going for him.

But will a boozed-up Phil go further than even he meant this time?

Fans can see Nick being given a pummelling on Thursday May 21 at 7pm on BBC1.

wow! cant wait for this...ian wont be pleased

I bet he isn't pleased at first; he might start stressing and think that he might be suspected of arson or something. And he might be like, "But it will make my insurance premium go up because I have to claim on it!"

'Nasty Nick' Cotton is the bookmakers' new favourite to rejoin EastEnders.

Paddy Power has placed the villain, played by John Altman, at 2/1 to return following the news that Letitia Dean will soon reprise her role as Sharon Watts.

Nasty Nick left Albert Square explosively in 2009, after holding Walford residents hostage in Ian Beale's café.

Actor Altman, who has appeared on a recurring basis since the show's first episode in 1985, returned in 2008 after a seven-year break.

EastEnders stalwart June Brown, Nick's 'Ma' Dot, had led a five-year-long campaign to persuade producers to revive the character.

Meanwhile, Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) and Sam Mitchell (Danniella Westbrook) are set at 5/1, while 'Little Mo' Mitchell is at 10/1 (Kacey Ainsworth) and Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) has odds of 12/1.

Bionic Woman star Michelle Ryan is 16/1 to return as Zoe Slater, while dopey barman Lofty Holloway (Tom Watt) is an outsider at 40/1. Den Watts's old poodle Roly can be backed at 100/1.

Den Watts: Evens (who else can say "'ello Princess"?)
Michelle Fowler: 200/1 (as she can't even be bothered to turn up for her own mother's funeral)
Grant Mitchell: 5/2 (dropped from the sky with a team of paratroopers)
David Wicks: 10/1 (next time there's a break in filming for Casualty)
Tracy Barlow: 100/8 (when the Corrie bosses at last realise how useless she is and send her down south on an extended holiday)
Pete Beale: 20/1 (who else can say" 'ello Treacle"?)
Kathy Beale (or whatever her name is now): also 20/1 (wandering around South Africa with amnesia following the car crash)
and finally Reg Cox: 33/1 (but might pong a bit)

EastEnders*legend*John Altman*has revealed that his character Nick Cotton was on the verge of having a gay relationship in the 1980s.The Albert Square soap's co-founder Julia Smith wrote Altman out after he disagreed with a storyline which would have seen a romance for Nick and Lofty Holloway. Altman told*The Guardian: "Julia wrote me out for about a year when I protested that Nick wasn't the kind of man who would start a gay relationship with Lofty, another straight character."June Brown recalled the scene: "When he left the room, Julia said, 'Write him out!' They did."Meanwhile, Altman conceded that he is disappointed with the development of Nick's character and the Cotton family in general."I did sometimes feel frustrated that they didn't make more of Nick," he added. "They'd use him to pack a punch and make a headline at the expense of longer-term plots."I'd like him to have spent more time on the square and shown other sides to his character."June and I protested when they killed off my on-screen son and dad because it was a missed opportunity to follow a really dysfunctional family."
