View Full Version : House Moves To Sky 1
Sky1 has acquired the rights to US medical drama House, it has announced.
The channel has secured the first-run UK TV rights to the fifth series of the drama - starring Hugh Laurie - after completing a deal with NBC Universal International TV Distribution.
The show, which previously aired on Five, will air on Sky1 and Sky1 HD from the summer.
"I'm delighted to be bringing House to Sky1," said the channel's managing director of entertainment, Sophie Turner Laing.
"The series has long entertained fans with its highly original take on a medical procedural drama and wry humour.
"Consistently excellent with a wonderful cast, House is the perfect addition to the channel that delivers the very best US drama to our customers."
Five attributed the loss to having difficulties finding a "suitable slot" for House after the "tremendous performance" of their recent acquisition The Mentalist.
"Five will not be renewing its deal for the next series of House," confirmed a channel spokeswoman. "We have been proud to be associated with the drama, but have taken this difficult decision for commercial and scheduling reasons."
House will continue its second run of repeats in the UK on Hallmark.

Another programme going to be ruined by the amount of adverts and fat cats putting their profits before the viewers. Not everyone has sky or the resources to download programmes and I hate the interurptions of adverts. I know that the adverts generate profits but the tv companies would make more if the programmes advertised products while being aired instead of wasting 15 mins of an hour long drama for comerical breaks.
See this is what sky do they buy all these programes get them moved to the worst channel ever and then do something to mess it up...im sure everyone remember what happened when they bought lost at least half the country lost it. They have no respect for the viewers of these shows at all

I was furious last year when Sky and Virgin were in contract disagreement no wonder I got in trouble from Virgin for downloading but I can't live without ma 24. When it was first shown on British tv it was on bbc2 then 1 and it was fab as there was no advert and it was so annoying when it went to sky. Channel 5 have to take some of the blame they should never have signed up the Mentalist if they knew it was going to cause scheduling problems.
I agree - I would rather have House on 5 than the Mentalist (it is ok, House is SUPERB).
I never watch show I like live - I Sky + them and skip through the adverts.

If they'd shown House instead of the Mentalist surely they would have got much more viewers, and therefore more companies wanting to advertise = lots of money for five?
I think Five's logic was to get a new program that is going to have a growing fan base over the years to come rather than continue to show a program that has been around five years and has got a stable audience.
Probably didn't explain that well but I know what I mean.
like they couldnt put house on another night of the week instead of one of them rubbish steven segal movies each week!
I concur. Of all the cop shows, CSI repeats and three channels (one a dedicated US channel) they can't find a one hour slot once a week?
i can't believe how poorly they have treated one of their strongest peforming shows

Five could have easily slotted in the mentalist without selling House. TV schedules are organised and planned months in advance, which is why the likes of Lost, 24, CSI and CsI NY all start in January and ER, CSI Miami and prison break are shown in the summer. Most dramas are 24/25 weeks long so five could have fitted the new show in when house is off the air or on another night, but they only cared about the money not their viewers.
House will premiere on Sky1 at the end of the month, it has been confirmed.
The fifth season of the medical drama, starring Hugh Laurie as Dr. House, will begin with a double bill on Sunday, May 31.
"What we're seeing this season is how vulnerable House really is," said Laurie. "I think it's fascinating to watch House pursue Wilson - he needs him, and I suppose he's revealed himself more than ever this year because he's so needy."
Robert Sean Leonard, aka Dr. Wilson, added: "Certainly Amber's death has changed things between them and will continue to affect that relationship. [House] doesn't want Wilson to hate him. To me that's the most naked House has been in five years."
Last month, it was announced that Sky1 had acquired the US medical drama from Five.
That means I will no longer be able to watch it as I don't get Sky1 :(

I love this programme, but I dont get Sky1. I only get the free channels and I cant justify setting up a package with sky for one programme - so guted as I love Hugh Laurie, and I love how he portrays House.
There is a site where you can watch the episodes online. I don't know if I can post the link. Google watch house online and it's the first one. It has every episode from every season. New episodes are uploaded a day or so after they air in the US. Only one more episode until the end of season 5 :crying:
Online only works in the UK, not abroad though, hence I am not able :(
I'm pretty sure it works anywhere. The site is American so if I can use it, anyone in the world can.
Oh thanks, I shall give it a go then :)
It appears to be working, but I have to install Firefox first.
Yeah, megavideo works better with firefox. Doesn't take long to download and install.
Just a reminder. House season five starts this Sunday on Sky1 and Sky1 HD. Double episode.

Have you seen the advertisments on bus shetlers it says "House Party don't expect a warm welcome"
Sky1 have done so much advertising for their new acquisition. Every place I go, every billboard I see has adverts for House. Hopefully it'll get the ratings it deserves with the advertising.
Sky seem to be committed to making House a success, unlike Channel 5.
I dont watch this but can I just say Im SICK of the adverts on sky one and the billboards!

Shameless bumping to remind viewers season five starts in two and a half hours :cheer:
House made a strong return to Sky1 last night, according to early viewing figures.
The season five premiere attracted 676k (3.3%) during the 9pm hour, then the second episode brought in 617k (3.9%) at 10pm.
Around 1.2 million viewers were lost in the show's switch from Five to Sky1. The season four opener had logged 1.9m (8.2%) for Five on March 20, 2008.
House beat ITV2's Supernatural, which grabbed 490k (2.4%) in the 9pm hour. It also topped the 453k (2.2%) who tuned in for BBC Three's Katie Price: The Jordan Years, an insight into the life and career of the former glamour model.
Shame they've lost so many viewers. I don't think it's down to lack of advertising, I've even seen Sky vans with House on.

Just be careful you don't get a letter from Virgin or your internet provider. I did when I was downloading 24.
