Anita Roy will dramatically bleach herself in a desperate bid to become white.

The Indian teen will be left in hospital with serious burns in one of the show’s most controversial plotlines.

Anita, played by Saira Choudry, 17, has been suffering racist attacks for weeks.

On Wednesday she will be cornered by Gaz and other thugs in a park and “white-washed” – covered in paint to hide her skin colour.

Later this month it will become too much for her so she takes the drastic measure to become white like her friends.

In shocking scenes fans will see the young girl hide in her room then scream with pain after rubbing the kitchen cleaner onto her legs.

The desperate act sparks fury with her strict father, who believes she is turning her back on her ethnicity.

Anita will even pose as a white girl on a social networking website to try to make new friends.

She uses a picture of her friend Theresa McQueen, who is extremely popular at school.

Actress Saira explained: “She uses hair dye from the salon to try and bleach the skin on her legs and when that doesn’t work she uses real bleach.”

Saira says it’s great that the show is tackling such tough issues.

She continued: “It has been done really well and will show people who are suffering for real that it’s not just them, that they are not alone.”

I think it has the potential to be a good storyline, we'll have to wait and see i am with Bryan at the minute she isnt that good of an actress but she is still only young so could improve.

Hollyoaks star Saira Choudhry has praised the soap's producers for tackling the issue of racism.

The actress's schoolgirl character Anita Roy has been at the centre of a racist bullying storyline on the Channel 4 show since late last year.

Choudhry has now revealed that she is hoping to inspire real-life victims as Anita comes to terms with her ordeal over the coming weeks.

"I think it's good that Hollyoaks is doing this storyline," she told Hot TV magazine. "Sadly, things like this do happen and there are people out there suffering like Anita.

"It's been done really well and will show people who are suffering that they are not alone. There will be kids out there in deep despair and hopefully when they see her pull through, they'll get hope from this."

Hollyoaks airs on weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4.
