PCs Nate Roberts (Ben Richards) and Mel Ryder (Rhea Bailey) are called into Deansgate School to investigate a suspected burglary in teacher Becky James’s (Naomi Ryan) classroom.
The PCs are confused when they realise nothing has been stolen, but the suspects have broken in and left behind a huge painted canvas. After further investigation, Nate discovers that one of the suspects is pupil Kim Patterson (Ruby Bentall) whose father, Russell (Charles Daish), is a school governor. A meeting is called and Nate questions Kim in front of Becky, Russell and the Headteacher. Kim admits that she and Jimmy Ryan (Nathanael Baring) broke into the school for a dare but insists they didn’t do anything wrong. Russell is furious and declares that Kim’s behaviour is out of the ordinary and as a result, he will be taking his daughter out of the school.
After the meeting, Nate is concerned that Becky still hasn’t turned up for work and goes to her house with Mel, where he is horrified to find Becky badly beaten and unconscious on the kitchen floor…
Becky’s housemate is later questioned and he admits Becky told him she was getting grief from Jimmy. Nate tracks Jimmy down and is gutted when he finds Becky’s stolen camera on him. Jimmy eventually confesses to falling out with Becky as he was angry about ending up in care after listening to both Nate and his teacher. He reluctantly tells the officer that he found the camera at his old address, where his brother, Baxter (Joel Fry) lives. Nate and D.C. Jacob Banks (Patrick Robinson) work together and as the case develops, they discover that an old prison-mate of Baxter’s, Marcus Bentley (Jack Morris) had been paid by someone to break into Becky’s house and steal her laptop. Marcus swears he doesn’t know the person that approached him and says that Becky was never meant to be at the house. What could be on Becky’s laptop that someone wants so desperately?
