Former Emmerdale star Ben Freeman has reportedly begun dating ex-Hollyoaks actress Jennifer Biddall.

The actor, who played mechanic Scott Windsor in the ITV1 soap, is thought to have fallen for Biddall (Jessica Harris) while co-starring with her in the stage show Dreamboats And Petticoats.

Speaking to the Daily Star, an unnamed source said: "He’s head over heels for her and she’s pretty smitten with him. It’s early days yet but the signs are definitely good."

Freeman was dropped by Emmerdale after being charged with rape in Barbados but recently admitted that he was keen to return to the programme after being cleared of the charge last year.

Emmerdale star Maxwell Caulfield has admitted that he often feels genuine sadness over his soap plots.

The actor confirmed that he regularly considers his real-life emotional experiences when filming scenes as Mark Wylde on the ITV1 show.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, Caulfield explained: "This show makes me [cry] bi-weekly. Mark is being put through the mangle. I get genuinely sad sometimes.

"There's more sadness in your life as you get older as more people have passed away and as more pets are cremated and buried at the end of the garden, so there's more to draw on."

Caulfield joined Emmerdale in September last year and his first scenes were screened in January.

Asked about his experiences with fellow cast members, he joked: "I hate them all. Ha ha. No, we're a harmonious and hardworking group, bound by the challenge of cranking out five shows a week. But what I like about this show is that if you get a good storyline, you really get a good storyline."

Caulfield recently revealed that he has fallen in love with the Yorkshire countryside since signing up for the programme.

Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter has revealed that she is planning to have a second boob job this year.

The 31-year-old actress, who plays Chas Dingle on the ITV1 soap, first went under the knife for breast enhancement surgery eleven years ago.

Speaking to The People, Pargeter admitted: "I don't think I will ever be satisfied with my body. I'll always be able to find something else I don't like. I'm just not completely happy with the way I look.

"My boobs are being done again in August. I'm going a little bit bigger. They were done a long time ago now so I think, just as you change your tyres on a car, you kind of need to change your implants.

"My surgeon told me I don't really need my boobs to go bigger. After the first op I thought, 'Jeepers they're big', but then they go down. I'm a double D now so I'm going up a third again. I'll be the same but a bit fuller."

Pargeter joined the Yorkshire-based programme in 2002 and added that she has no plans to quit her role.

"I love my character because I get to go to work and do everything I sometimes want to do in my own life - I really get to mouth off," she explained. "I get a good reaction from the public because Chas has good intentions.

"I'm quite happy to stay on the show until the day they are unhappy with me or I get bored. But I am happy being based in Leeds, I feel settled."

Pargeter was nominated for sexiest female at the British Soap Awards this year, but lost out to Coronation Street's Michelle Keegan (Tina McIntyre) at the ceremony.

Ex-Emmerdale actress Roxanne Pallett has unexpectedly pulled out of her British Shakespeare Company performances just days before the opening night.

Earlier this year, the 26-year-old, who played the role of Jo Sugden in ITV's rural soap for three years before bowing out in December, had signed to appear as Hero in Much Ado About Nothing and Cobweb in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Earlier this year, Pallett appeared in ITV skating show Dancing on Ice alongside professional skater Daniel Whiston and was the eighth contestant to be voted off. She subsequently agreed to join her fellow contestants for the annual Ice tour. Rehearsals for her Shakespeare commitment were due to begin almost immediately afterwards.

However, despite the Ice tour finishing at the beginning of last month, her agent yesterday released a statement indicating that the actress's commitment to the roadshow had eaten into her Shakespeare rehearsal time and she had therefore taken the decision to pull out.

She was expected to make her debut on stage in A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Rose Theatre in Kingston on Friday.

Pallett's representative told a local Gloucestershire newspaper: "Due to the Dancing on Ice tour running into the rehearsal period for the British Shakespeare Company, Roxanne Pallett has had to bow out of the project but wishes the company a fantastic run as she now looks towards forthcoming roles."

A spokesperson for the British Shakespeare Company this afternoon told DS: "We were informed earlier this week that Roxanne had decided to pull out of the show. She couldn't catch up with the rehearsals that she had lost due to the Dancing on Ice tour."

Pallett has been replaced by actress Claire McGarahan.

She needs to make her mind up what she commits herself to, else she gets herself a reputation and nobody will entertain her after a while.

Emmerdale star Amanda Donohoe has claimed that viewers support her character Natasha Wylde.

Fans of the ITV1 soap are aware that Natasha's husband Mark (Maxwell Caulfield) is a bigamist who recently began seeing his first wife Faye Lamb (Kim Thomson) again. In next week's episodes, the businessman's secrets will be exposed at last.

Donohoe has now confirmed that she has experienced a positive response from the public since the storyline began earlier this year.

Speaking to the Daily Record, the 46-year-old actress explained: "I've made a point of never playing Natasha as an out-and-out bitch, an over-the-top baddie, so people will be concerned for her and won't just laugh at her misfortune.

"I've already had people saying: 'Watch out, your husband is up to no good', so I think the public are on my side. I may even get the odd hug, kiss and glance of sympathy when next week's bombshells hit the screen."

Asked if she can relate to her character's troubles, she revealed: "I've suffered this myself. You are told something, go about your life contentedly, and then discover that the reality of a situation is somewhat different to how it was presented. It's disappointing and undermining."

Donohoe announced that she had signed up for Emmerdale in September 2008. She appeared on screen for the first time in January.

I wish the character was played by a different actress, Amanda is sooo wooden and unbeleavable.

Is Amy Nuttall attempting to draw up more publicity or is this article supposed to drum up more publicity for her? As there is every guarantee the article will have her in a skimpy bikini from years ago! If she was that bothered by her image back then why was she happy to pocket the cash from all the work she generated from being semi naked?

She’s brought bucketloads of A-list glamour to Emmerdale, but Amanda Donohoe reveals why she’s much more at home in Yorkshire than LA
Yourlife 09.01.10 Amanda

Even by her own jet-setting standards, Amanda Donohoe has had quite a year of it.

In the past 12 months the Hollywood star has morphed effortlessly from established film actress to Emmerdale soap sensation — and she couldn’t be happier.

A year after she first sashayed into the village — bringing buckets of movie-star style with her — the Golden Globe-winner is enjoying it so much she’s signed up for another stint.

And Amanda, 47, who plays wronged wife Natasha Wylde says the role is up there with her Hollywood parts.

With TV credits including LA Law and films such as Castaway – which started her tinseltown career in 1986 – and The Madness Of King George, that’s no mean feat. She laughs: “I’ve done Hollywood and now I’m doing Yorkshire and I can honestly say I’m loving every minute.

“The show is huge and until you’re in it you don’t realise what that entails. There are eight million people watching your face every night. People are always coming up to chat about the storyline.”

Amanda finds herself in the thick of it again next week as her character takes centre-stage in a gripping development.

Her bigamist husband, Mark, will be murdered in an explosive episode on Thursday and Natasha is one of five characters with a motive to kill.

“It’s lovely, isn’t it?” she says, “the perfect family Christmas in Soapland!”

Years being feted in LA hasn’t dented Amanda’s down-to-earth attitude and she admits to feeling nervous about joining the soap: “It’s a monster — in the sense that it’s churning out the equivalent of 40 feature films a year – so the pace we work at is very demanding.

“Now that I’m used to it I find it challenging and enjoyable. All I ever wanted was to do it justice — and the response from the people who watch it has been overwhelming so I must be doing something right.”

The role has been part of a life-changing few years for Amanda. She left America to come home to Britain — disillusioned with the industry and its obsession with looks.

Today, dressed down in a grey cashmere jumper and slim-fitting black trousers, she is still elegant and beautiful.

But in modern Hollywood, many of her colleagues were going under the knife — something she isn’t prepared to do.

“I’d just had enough of Hollywood,” she shrugs. “The obsession with looks and plastic surgery was one of the reasons why I left.”

So has she ruled it out completely?

“Yes. Perhaps I’m a coward but it definitely doesn’t appeal to me,” she says.

“Many, many years ago I remember trying Botox – it felt like my forehead had crashed down and I had the heaviest eyebrows in the world.

“As you get older you lose your vanity — you have to, otherwise you end up in a mess. If you can’t get over the fact that you’re going to age you’re in trouble.

“I’m not a great fan of plastic surgery — I’ve seen quite a few mistakes and it can be addictive.”

She adds: “Younger women who don’t need anything doing are having procedures because they’re feeling insecure.

“It’s so, so sad and it’s about people taking your money and running. Once you start it, where do you finish?

“You see someone like Katie Price and think, ‘what are you going to look like when you’re 50?’

“She looks like some kind of generic doll. I thought she looked beautiful as she was. Young women look at that as an ideal. But it isn’t. It isn’t even normal.”

She adds: “The fact is that some people just age better than others — my mother has the most beautiful skin and she’s 89.

“So I want to look age-appropriate and be comfortable.”

A self-confessed “lazy old boot”, Amanda hates exercise and credits her slim figure to genes and a youth spent as a dancer. She doesn’t do diets and says her only concession to middle age is living a slightly quieter life.

A former “wild child” — she dropped out of her exclusive girls’ school to date Adam Ant — these days she’s in bed at 9.30pm, ready for an early start on set.

Tucking into a smoked salmon and prawn mayonnaise sandwich, she says: “I don’t deny myself — as you can see.

“But I have to be very disciplined working in soap because so much is demanded of you.

“I don’t want to go in tired or hungover so I take things easy. I don’t have much of a life at the moment.

“But it isn’t like I haven’t spent the last 25 years working, partying and travelling!”

She adds: “Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a saint. Like any woman I’m not in love with my lines. I do have some vanity but there are more important things in life. If you’ve got someone who loves you and who thinks you’re beautiful you’ll be happy and I am.”

Just back from a Christmas holiday in Jamaica with her sound artist boyfriend Russell Haswell, 38, the pair share a home in the Suffolk countryside. But renting a cottage near Harrogate allows them make the most of her time outside work.

Despite being madly in love she has no plans to get married. As she puts it: “Why make promises you can’t keep? Look at Tiger Woods — you can sleep with anyone you want to but don’t get married. It’s disrespectful.

“I’ve always felt that if I’d had children perhaps I would have done it for them. But now I think, ‘why bother?’.

“I’ve seen so much misery in that department that I want something more honest. I’m a serial monogamist and I will not put up with infidelity but I also want the freedom not to have to lie.

“When the love stops my partner will be the first to know, not the last, and that’s all you can really promise.”

Family clearly does mean a lot to her though. She looks close to tears as she talks about her parents’ carers.

“My dad has had a massive stroke so he’s in a wheelchair and my mother is going through Alzheimer’s.

“They have full-time care in their own home — you can’t live a life and be a carer so I have enormous respect for the people who do it. It’s a difficult, demanding job so to do it well is laudable.”

FORMER British soap star Adele Silva is cleaning up in Hollywood - working in a clothes shop.
The 29-year-old Emmerdale actress moved to Los Angeles last year in a bid to launch a career there.

But instead of raking in millions from movie blockbusters, she is working shifts at a Ted Baker store - and was snapped shining the shelves and sorting stock.

A source at the West Hollywood shop said: "She's hard-working and gets stuck in.

"She is not famous in LA so she gets treated the same as everyone else. She takes it in her stride but it's hardly living the Hollywood dream.

"I'm sure it's not what she had in mind."

Adele played Kelly Windsor in the hit ITV soap between 1993 and 2000.

She resumed the role in 2005-07, when she was led down the aisle by her stepmum's boyfriend Bob Hope, played by Tony Audenshaw.

Last year she headed to California and joined a host of soap stars who have tried - and usually failed - to make a go of it in Hollywood.

As well as her shifts at Ted Baker Adele has set up a dog-minding business called Walkies of Fame with budding actress Ceri Bethan.

EMMERDALE hate figure Sian Reeves has taken to wearing a blonde wig to avoid being recognised by angry fans.
She plays deranged marriage-wrecker Sally Spode, who has done her best to split up vicar Ashley Thomas and his wife Laurel.

When Sian goes out in real life she's been facing mounting anger from the ITV1 soap's viewers over her on-screen campaign to make Ashley fall in love with her.

She said: "It's been quite frightening. I've been travelling in a blonde Britney Spears-style wig recently and I look awful, but it doesn't matter, because nobody recognises me and I feel much safer."

Trouble maker ... Sally and Ashley in Emmerdale scene
Former Cutting It star Sian, 45, said she was recently told, "You're a *********g bitch" by a pizza delivery man bringing an order to her hotel room.

She said: "I was straight out of the shower and in my towel. It was the last thing I expected. It was shocking."

On trains people get up and move to get away from her, while late-night revellers shout at her.

She said: "Even when I sat in first class a woman came up and said, 'My husband can't stand you. I just thought I'd let you know,' and then walked off."

Sian - nominated for Villain of the Year in this year's British Soap Awards - said "nobody makes eye contact" with her in shops.

"It's been quite frightening at times. I had one man run right up to me.

Noise

"I was so shocked I just made this terrible noise and ran off to the toilets to put on my wig."

She added: "It's been brilliant on one level, because the Sally character has obviously worked well.

"She's clearly got a screw loose and people hate her, but it's come at a cost."

Sian, who is leaving the ITV soap soon, set about trying to ruin the marriage of old flame of Ashley and Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) when she joined the cast as Sally last year.

Off-screen, she and Charlotte are good pals - but when they go out together they "get stared at a lot".

Sian said: "People come up to Charlotte and say, 'Are you out your mind? She's after your husband!'"

On-screen, scheming Sally's even tried to bump off Laurel by locking her in the church and torching it - but her terror reign ends soon.

On April 2, she and Laurel fight when Sally claims to be carrying Ashley's baby.

Sally ends up being dangled over a balcony by her legs. Viewers must wait to see if Laurel drops her. Sian - who lives in London with her boyfriend and daughter, 14 - is about to record a series of BBC3 drama Lunch Monkeys.

She has been sounded out about going on next year's Dancing on Ice, but was wary because she still suffers after breaking 21 ribs falling through a stage trapdoor in 2008. However, Sian says: "If they asked me, I'd do it."

She's also been on EastEnders and City Lights, but is best known as Sydney Henshall in Cutting It.

Sian is pals with cast members from the hair salon series, including Amanda Holden and Sarah Parish.

She said: "We've always thought there should be a spin-off. After a year as Sally it would be good to play somebody nice again!

Emmerdale stars Suzanne Shaw and James Thornton have spoken of how they were almost struck by lightning this week as they filmed a scene for the soap.

The pair, who play Eve Jenson and John Barton respectively, were forced to run for cover after a bolt blew out all the lights and destroyed a tree just a few feet away from where they were shooting.

James Sutton (Ryan Lamb) and Jeff Hordley (Cain Dingle) were also present for the scary moment, which occurred on Tuesday evening during a freak storm which hit Yorkshire.

Writing on Twitter shortly afterwards, Shaw told fans: "Emmerdale has just been struck by lightning! Seriously - Cain, Ryan, Eve and John nearly killed off!"

Meanwhile, Thornton - who is still recovering after being hit by a car in February - told his own Twitter followers: "Just almost got hit by lightning! All the lights exploded! We all screamed! I threw my crutches on the floor! The whole crew took cover."

An Emmerdale source told the Daily Star: "They can see the funny side now but they were in a blind panic when the lightning struck. They were in fear of their lives."

The 22-year-old, along with her boyfriend and co-star Matthew Wolfenden, welcomed their son Buster Lawrence Wolfenden into the world on Saturday.

Roxanne Pallett has revealed that she struggled to cope with the death of her best friend.

The actress, who played Jo Sugden for three years up to 2008, admitted that she suffered depression which nearly led to a breakdown.

She told the News of the World: "I've not been out and about until now. Nothing else really mattered. It threw a spanner in the works."

Pallett said that, immediately after the tragedy, she pulled out of a starring role in a pantomime. However, the star's recent guest role in BBC One hospital drama Casualty has rejuvenated her spirits.

She continued: "It was a guest lead in one episode. It was nice having something to feel tenacious about.

"Getting up, reading roles, going for the audition - it gives you that momentum and drive that everyone needs at a time like that."

Lucy Pargeter has admitted that she is grateful for the opportunity to play a bad mother in Emmerdale.

Fans of the ITV1 soap have seen Pargeter's character Chastity Dingle face turbulent times with troubled son Aaron Livesy (Danny Miller) since he returned to screens in 2008.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Pargeter commented: "Chas hasn't really got the mothering gene, has she? She wasn't really around much when Aaron was younger - and when she was there, she wasn't much cop.

"It's good for me to portray a bad mother on screen, though. I'm not saying that I'm an amazing mum myself, but I'm absolutely devoted to my little girl, Lola. It's really nice to go against the grain and play someone who has no idea how to be a parent at all."

Chastity's relationship with her son looks likely to turn a corner in next week's episodes following Aaron's suicide attempt, which airs tonight.

However, asked whether she hopes the pair have a harmonious future, Pargeter replied: "Oh no, not at all. I don't ever wish Chas happiness. It's not that I want her to be sad and miserable all the time, but a happy storyline is often a boring one. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there's plenty more turmoil and drama ahead for the woman!"

Emmerdale's Lucy Pargeter has revealed that she never watches any soap operas.

The 33-year-old actress, who plays Chastity Dingle on the serial, insists that she doesn't have the time after being at work.

She told the Daily Record: "I don't watch soaps. I don't watch any of them. I just don't have time and when I get home from work it's not so that I can sit down and watch other soaps.

"It's 'off time'. I have to learn lines, get my daughter Lola off to bed, make dinner, stuff like that."

She added of her husband, Leeds United football coach Rudi Coleano: "He has his own goalkeeping academy and works for Leeds, but I can't stand football.

"It doesn't entertain me. He doesn't watch it either. He's not bothered by it and we don't support anybody. We have more interesting things to do than watch the football."

Emmerdale star Tony Audenshaw celebrated a double triumph after taking part in the London Marathon yesterday.

His time of 3 hours and 13 minutes also made him the first celebrity to cross the finish line this year.

Speaking to reporters afterwards, Audenshaw joked: "You can forget about the 100m record, this is the record people are interested in - the world's fastest baby in a marathon."

Lyndon Ogbourne has revealed that he is thrilled by the strong reactions his Emmerdale character provokes from viewers.

The actor's twisted alter ego Nathan Wylde returns to screens next week following a break from the village and is expected to cause more trouble for his family in the months ahead.

Fans have already seen Nathan try to blackmail mum Natasha (Amanda Donohoe) after she confessed to killing his dad Mark. He has also attacked his father's first wife Faye Lamb (Kim Thomson) in dramatic scenes.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Ogbourne admitted: "I already have people giving me jokey abuse while I'm out and about regarding how nasty Nathan is. But I'm actually really chuffed about that, because if viewers want to go out of their way to tell me what a git my character is, then I must be doing something right!"

He continued: "When Nathan was away from the village, I was travelling in India. Even over there, I bumped into someone who gave me a hard time. There's no escape from Nathan!

"I do find myself trying to defend him, though. Because I know him so well, he's someone I want to stand up for - though I'm not sure there's any justification for the way he behaves."

Emmerdale's screen siblings Rik Makarem and Chris Bisson have promised that viewers will begin to see more of their characters in the coming months.

Bisson teased: "We're simmering, but we're coming. It's got to turn dark at some point, hasn't it?"

Makarem continued: "We're going to see more of a relationship established between Jai and Nikhil - some of their history's going to come out... We can promise that there's going to be some really good stuff between the middle and the end of the year."

Emmerdale star Suzanne Shaw has revealed that she is keen to have two more children.

The actress, who tied the knot with partner Jason King last year, is already mum to 5-year-old Corey from her previous relationship with Darren Day.

Speaking to Reveal magazine, Shaw explained: "I'd like to have at least two more children, but I don't think I'd go over that - just because I hated being pregnant. I really didn't enjoy it, because I was sick for the whole nine months. I had morning, afternoon and night sickness."

Of her relationship with King, she continued: "I knew Jay was the one, I just had a feeling. Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect - we argue a lot - but I don't think there's such a thing as perfect. We've dealt with tough times and have managed to get through them. Relationships are just bloody hard work.

"I'm 100% the happiest I've been in my relationship and life in general. Married life is really good."

Shaw joined the Emmerdale cast earlier this year in the role of flirtatious Eve Jenson.

The Emmerdale star told Cosmopolitan that Amy, 26, has always been protective.

"I remember on my first few days of school, someone wanted to beat me up and Amy had it fixed before I'd even heard about it," said Winward, who plays Katie Sugden on the ITV soap.

Amy added: "She was picked on a bit at school, so I'd go and meet her at the school gate to make sure she was okay."

Despite their close relationship now, Winward said the pair had their fair share of sibling disputes.

Emmerdale star Deena Payne has admitted that she was shocked when she learned that her character Viv Hope would split from husband Bob.

The couple's relationship hits the rocks in tonight's double bill of the rural soap after Viv discovers that Bob (Tony Audenshaw) slept with Genesis Walker (Sian Reese-Williams) last year.

Speaking to the Daily Record about the plot, Payne revealed: "I was shocked when they said they were going to split us up and I think the fans are going to be, too. They will be thinking they will get back together, but I don't think they will.

"I think fans will mourn the end of Viv and Bob. I certainly have. I went though a mournful patch but then I thought, 'Oh well, they might get me a hunky new man like George Clooney'."

The actress confessed that she "cried real tears" while filming some of the break-up scenes and felt that the couple had "a lot more" to offer as a duo. However, she is now feeling more optimistic over the story.

She explained: "Maybe a split energises both characters. And as long as they are living in the village, there is always going to be a thing between them, even if they have new partners. I think they are soulmates. Sometimes you can't get on with a soulmate. You have arguments."

A RAFT of racy storylines and new characters has pushed Emmerdale ratings ONE MILLION above EastEnders'.
The ITV soap peaked at 7.2million for its hour-long special on Tuesday compared to 6.1million for the Beeb's Albert Square drama.

Emmerdale storylines have included Aaron Livesy's gay anguish, Bob and Viv Hope's marriage breakdown after he bedded Genesis Dingle, and a teenage Holly Barton becoming hooked on cocaine.

But the London soap managed to claw back the audience figures from its Yorkshire rival for its last half, trumping Emmerdale in the final 15 minutes.

Producer Gavin Blyth has culled old characters since being hired last year. And he has brought in new faces like Suzanne Shaw, who plays Eve Birch.

An ITV spokesman said it was "delighted" with the ratings.

Joseph Gilgun has admitted that he is without his pet parrot after it flew away from him on the set of his new movie.

The actor, who recently departed his role as Eli Dingle in Emmerdale, is currently starring as Woody in Channel 4's This Is England spinoff.

"He was on my shoulder. He's been able to do that without running off but an alarm went off and startled him and that was it," he told PA.

"He bolted straight over all the houses. The whole crew to the locals to everybody, and especially me, was heartbroken. He's like my son.

"I didn't want him in Emmerdale. I think he's a bit too busy for it. I was there every day so I had to leave him at home."

Emmerdale star Sophie Powles has admitted that she rarely gets recognised by fans of the soap.

The actress, who has been with the Yorkshire-based serial for a year, confessed that she does not share her character Holly Barton's fashion sense when going about her everyday life.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Powles revealed: "I don't get that many fans talking to me because I'm usually in a beanie hat and scruffy combats, so no-one recognises me.

"But if I go out after work and look like Holly, I do get a few people saying things. It's lovely - but also a bit weird if you're buying a pair of knickers or something and someone taps you on the shoulder!"

Asked whether viewers ever say strange things to her, she replied: "A lot of people say I look fat on the telly - I'm like, 'Oh, right - I'll stop eating the pies then!'"

Powles's alter ego is currently at the centre of a teen drugs storyline on the ITV1 programme.

ITV1's Emmerdale has been voted the UK soap with the best gay storylines in a new poll.

The Yorkshire-based drama proved popular in a survey carried out by lesbian, gay and bisexual charity Stonewall, clinching victory with 44% of the votes.

Emmerdale's recognition follows its long-running plot centring around troubled Aaron Livesy (Danny Miller) as he struggles to come to terms with his homosexuality.

BBC One's EastEnders, which has recently featured a same sex romance between Syed Masood (Marc Elliott) and Christian Clarke (John Partridge), followed closely behind in the poll with 43%.

Meanwhile, Coronation Street - which has this year seen Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) and Sian Powers (Sacha Parkinson) develop feelings for each other - took 13% of the votes.

Speaking of the results, Emmerdale's series producer Gavin Blyth commented: "From the outset, we always wanted to be very truthful and honest in the story of Aaron's sexuality and how he as an individual attempted to deny himself. While we obviously recognise this doesn't mirror the journey of every man and woman, we were aware that it would resonate with very many.

"The enormous positive feedback we have received has proved it to be the case and to be recognised by Stonewall in this way is a huge honour to all involved."

ADAM Thomas called in sick at Emmerdale - then partied at a Jay-Z gig hours later.
The actor, 22, told co-stars he was in bed next to a sick bucket. But an hour later he revealed on Twitter that he had been offered tickets to see the rapper in Manchester.
He wrote: "Please get better soon me wants to go!" That night he posted a picture of himself at last week's gig and wrote: "Jay-Z baby baby! That guy is too good."
Emmerdale bosses were happy with the explanation given by Adam - younger brother of Corrie star Ryan. An insider at the ITV1 soap, where he plays Adam Barton, said: "He was in bed all day, but then he made a miraculous recovery.
"Bosses understand young people often make rapid recoveries. There are no problems."

Former Emmerdale star Roxanne Pallett has revealed that she would not rule out appearing in another soap.

The actress bowed out from her role as Jo Sugden on the Yorkshire-based serial in 2008 and will return to screens with a one-off guest part in Casualty later this year.

Speaking to the News of the World about her screen comeback, Pallett commented: "I'm really excited as it will be the first TV role that I'll be seen as someone else other than Jo. As long as I have a great character and an interesting script in front of me, I'm happy."

Pallett is currently taking part in a touring production of the musical Rock Around The Clock, which is to visit 16 cities over the next few months.

She said: "This is my professional stage debut and there's always a certain amount of nerves that come with walking into any first-time role. But I'm loving it and I've fitted straight in."

The 27-year-old, who is also due to make a one-off appearance in Casualty later this year, confirmed that she will start work on the film project in the autumn.

Shane Richie and Coleen Nolan's son Jake Roche has joined the cast of Emmerdale as a new love interest for teenager Hannah Barton.

The 17-year-old has taken on the role of college student Isaac, who is to become Hannah's (Grace Cassidy) first proper boyfriend when they start dating later this year.

Hannah's new relationship will be a welcome distraction as her sister Holly's (Sophie Powles) ongoing drug problem continues to cause a crisis in the Barton household. With parents John and Moira firmly distracted by Holly's issues, it remains to be seen whether they will be there for Hannah as the romance gets more serious.

Speaking of his casting, Roche commented: "I am thrilled to be part of such a great team. Everyone has made me feel so welcome. After watching Emmerdale for years on TV, I still have to pinch myself on set as it's all very surreal. My family have been very supportive as always and we all can't wait to see my first episode."

Emmerdale's series producer Gavin Blyth added: "Jake is a great addition to the cast. Isaac will be a fun character who will offer some light relief for Hannah as her family face their darkest hour."

Roche is the youngest of two sons who were welcomed by Richie and Nolan during their nine-year marriage. The couple divorced in 1999 and have both since settled down with new partners.

Emmerdale bosses have confirmed that Roche's first scenes will air in August. He will be filming with the soap for the next few months.

Speaking to Bang Showbiz about keeping up with the show, Pallett confirmed: "When a mate is involved in a gripping storyline, I do. I watched when Suzanne Shaw arrived in the village. Suzanne and I worked together on Dancing On Ice and became good friends.

"I also try to tune in when I know Charlotte Bellamy is involved in something big. She's such a brilliant actress."

Pallett also confirmed that a return to Emmerdale is not currently on the cards because she wants to continue trying new things.

She said: "Oh, you know, I said when I left that I wouldn't go back until I'd earned my acting stripes. I don't feel I have yet."

EXY Lucy Pargeter has sent out a warning to blonde bombshell Suzanne Shaw – “Stay away from my man”.

The Emmerdale actress, who plays feisty Chas Dingle, is worried her on-screen lover Carl King will be tempted to stray.

And with Suzanne’s character Eve Jenson working with Carl, a real chemistry has developed between the two in the soap.

Lucy, 32, said: “We wanted Carl and Chas to get back together as we didn’t think their relationship had run its course.

“I think Chas has lost a bit of her spark, which I want her to get back. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Eve.

“She’s a flirty character but she’d better watch out as Chas wouldn’t be too happy if she was to go after Carl.”

Lucy also revealed she’d love another child with fiancé Rudi Coleano but admitted it was in the “lap of the groins”.

She got engaged to Rudi in January 2008 but they’re in no rush to tie the knot.

Lucy added: “We’ll get married when it feels right. It would be nice to have another baby.”

"The memory of the disaster that was his marriage to Lexi is still fresh in his mind and he doesn’t want to mess up again. Things may not be great with Chas, but he doesn’t want to lose her. He tells Eve it’s been fun, but he’s with Chas.

"[He is] not tempted enough [to cheat on Chas]. He still regards [her] as the love of his life and he’s decided to stay faithful to her - at least for now."

Silva told Digital Spy of her role in the production: "I'm really looking forward to being involved in S vs. W. The script is very funny and all the female roles are very strong.

"It's something you can get your teeth into, which is great for an actress. It makes a nice change from all the guy-centric, gun-toting gangster films out there - a bit of girl power for a change!"

Sothcott, whose 2008 film Karma Magnet also starred Silva, added of the 29-year-old's casting: "Adele's a really underrated actress. She did my first film years ago and I've been looking for something else to do with her. She has terrific comic timing and, obviously, is really hot, so I had to offer her Strippers Versus Werewolves!

"It's an out and out comedy, but more in the style of '80s movies like Vamp, Fright Night and The Monster Squad than Lesbian Vampire Killers!"

Training for a tough triathlon hasn't harmed the physiques of Tom Lister, Matthew Wolfenden and Lyndon Ogbourne, as this tasty snap shows.

But preparing for tomorrow's gruelling event hasn't all been plain sailing.

Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe, lost his pricey set of wheels to a bike thief after a training session.

"Matt and I went for a bike ride and then a swim on Tuesday and when we came out of the pool Matt's bike had been nicked. That wasn't a highlight.

"We had to rush round and find him a replacement bike in time for the race."

But Tom was impressed that Matthew kept such a cool head after the theft.

Three three stars will swim, cycle and run in the London Triathlon in aid of Leukaemia Research.

Lyndon Ogbourne has revealed that he was working as a male nanny when he was offered the role of Nathan Wylde in Emmerdale.

The 27-year-old told The Mirror that he had struggled to afford London life while living as a struggling actor.

"It was a really bleak time," he said. "It was a tough time in my life but what I've been through has only made me stronger and more determined to achieve everything I want for my future.

"I was working so hard for very little reward but those times have helped to shape me into the person I am today."

Ogbourne revealed that he had been caring for a young boy when he joined the ITV soap's cast last year.

"I was looking after this little boy when I got the call," he said. "We'd just come back from swimming and we were both jumping around with excitement. He was 8 and I'd taken him to filming jobs with me in the summer holidays, so he knew how much it meant to me.

"I'd had enough of bar work and I wanted to start doing something that made me feel worthwhile."

The actor added: "There was a boom in male nannies at the time. A lot of families with boys wanted a more active nanny and I loved it. I was at a low ebb with work and the break-up of a long-term relationship and it was a solace for me."

Richard Thorp has revealed hat he encourages young actors not to stay in Emmerdale "too long".

The actor, who joined the soap in 1982 as Alan Turner, told the Radio Times that he had never left as he did not believe he was good enough to land another job.

"I ought to have regrets about staying, but I'm the laziest human being alive so I don't," he said. "The advice I've given to young actors has been not to stay too long. I told one actor he was too good to stay, and happily he left and has gone on to forge a good career. There was no point in me moving on because I wasn't good enough!"

The 78-year-old bemoaned Turner's lack of recent storylines.

The landlords of the original Emmerdale pub have decided to shut it down.

The Woolpack appeared when the ITV soap was filmed in Esholt, West Yorkshire. However, filming of the show moved to a new location 11 years ago and since then villagers have been trying to keep the pub going, even buying it from Bradford Council in 2004.

The Mirror reports that despite still attracting fans of the show to the 177-year-old pub, landlords Nichola and Richard McGrath have decided quit four years into their ten year lease.

"In summer it's very busy here but in winter it's deadly quiet and the two just don't make up for each other," Nichola said. "We've had enough of working 90 hours a week and want to spend more time with the children."

She continued: "Also it's not easy being tied to a pub company with inflated rents and beer prices. We've loved every second here. We're devastated for the villagers and will miss the village terribly. But hopefully Enterprise Inns won't leave it long before they get someone else in. We'll be back for a pint when they do."

A spokesperson for the company said: "Enterprise Inns is aware that Mr and Mrs McGrath have temporarily closed the Woolpack and we are in discussions with them. We will provide an update once we are in a position to do so."

Who needs awards when you can have your own celestial being?

Emmerdale actor Danny Miller, who got lots of nominations but ultimately no gongs at the British Soap Awards, received a huge compliment from a fan in the form of a twinkly pressie.

The 19-year-old, who plays gay teenager Aaron Livesy, told Inside Soap: "You know how they can name stars after you?

"I had one of those given to me by a gay lad, who said it was because the storyline was realistic and had basically retraced the steps he'd taken with his own coming out.

"He sent me a message saying, 'I thought I'd buy a star for a star'. It was so touching."

That's what you call high praise

Emmerdale star Danny Miller has praised Lacey Turner and Michelle Keegan for their performances on EastEnders and Coronation Street this year.

The actor, who plays mechanic Aaron Livesy on the Yorkshire-based drama, told Inside Soap that he has been impressed when watching the pair's scenes as Walford's Stacey Branning and Weatherfield's Tina McIntyre.

Asked if there are any stars from rival soaps whose talent he admires, Miller replied: "It's two girls for me this year. I think Lacey Turner is remarkable. When you lose out on an award to her, like I did at the British Soap Awards, you don't think of it as missing out because she's such amazing competition.

"I also think Michelle Keegan is phenomenal, with the raw emotion she showed when Tina's dad Joe died. I enjoy watching both soaps and will always go up to people if I see them at events and tell them I think they're great."

Meanwhile, the 19-year-old also revealed details of what is ahead for Aaron and boyfriend Jackson Walsh (Marc Silcock) over the coming weeks.

He said: "Aaron's coming to terms with his sexuality, but there's still a lot of awkwardness there, what with living with his first boyfriend and having the guy's mum move in.

"Jackson will realise Aaron is always going to be this aggressive person - his temper gets in the way. The writers want Aaron to be a naughty boy who gets on everyone's nerves, so he'll look up to Cain and want to be more like him. But there's trouble when he sells a dodgy car to someone who's not to be messed with."

Work is under way on a £5 million refurbishment of Emmerdale's studios, which will see the show move to HD.

ITV Studios announced the investment in Leeds' Kirkstall Road facility last December. It said at the time that the investment was "about safeguarding the future of Emmerdale".

The Yorkshire Post reports that work will be completed by next spring. Outside scenes will continue to be filmed in the purpose-built village near Leeds.

"When the show started, there was three episodes a week, but now there are six a week and it's become a great success story which is why we're investing £5m in the future of the programme," said Adrian Bleasdale, who is project managing the construction.

"It's about creating the best possible environment to produce Emmerdale and we have worked incredibly closely with the production team in the whole process so that what we are creating here meets their needs."

He confirmed that the work will include custom-built studios for sets including the Woolpack and Home Farm. A sixth studio will also be designed for hospital and prison scenes.

However, despite the massive operation, Bleasdale said he hopes that viewers will not notice any mistakes when the sets are changed.

"Some of the sets will get moved, but we are duplicating as much as possible," he said.

James Sutton has admitted that he does not enjoy filming romantic or topless scenes.

The Emmerdale actor confessed that he finds shooting the scenes "embarrassing".

"It's just not a sexy experience whatsoever," he told The Mirror. "It's pretty embarrassing.

"How often do you snog someone in front of 30 other people? You become convinced that they are judging your technique. And it’s completely silent, so all you hear is the sound of your own lips, which is just not a nice sound."

He added: "It’s not an erotic experience at all."

The 27-year-old admitted that he is "quite shy in many ways" and does not enjoy having to take his top off for scenes.

"I've only done one topless photoshoot in my life and I really regret it," he revealed. "I was covered in oil and wearing dog tags. It was so cheesy!"

EMMERDALE hunk James Sutton locks lips with co-star Catherine Tyldesley, who plays his randy prison officer Abi Peterson.

The pair were spotted during a lunch break. An onlooker said: "They looked really happy but were horrified when they saw the snapper and leapt apart."

James, 27, who plays Ryan Lamb in the ITV1 soap, recently split from Sammy Winward (Katie Sugden), shortly after their on-screen romance fizzled out.

Cupid's arrow has hit Emmerdale - and has James Sutton and Lyndon Ogbourne firmly in his sights. Well, kinda.

The two actors are best friends in real life, a far cry from their on-screen alter egos Ryan Lamb and half-brother Nathan Wylde, who hate each other with a vengeance.

James, who is single after splitting from co-star Sammy Winward (Katie Sugden) in July, told Closer: "Lyndon's taken the place of any prospective partner - we're having a little bit of a bromance!

"We're filming in Leeds and Lyndon's girlfriend lives in London, so he's at a bit of a loose end and I'm a single lad now and on my own a lot, so we go off on man dates."

Lyndon added: "We're a real support to each other and have a really close and genuine friendship. We get as much attention from men as from women - I think our bromance creates all sorts of ideas!"

Like other couples, the duo enjoy dinner and movies together.

James revealed: "We went to see Toy Story 3 recently and Lyndon cried like a girl all the way through it!"

His co-star said: "James brought tissues with him, so when I started crying, he gave me one. It wasn't an entirely girlie night - before the film, we did go out to a restaurant and eat steak." Yeah, sure.

He may be quite a smoothie with the ladies on screen, but Emmerdale's James Sutton claims that, away from the cameras, he has no dating skills.

The 27-year-old, who plays imprisoned Ryan Lamb in the ITV soap, said he's hopeless at chatting up girls.

"I've had a few long-term relationships in my life but I'm not very good at the dating scene. I never approach women so I wouldn't really know how to chat up a girl," he told the Daily Mirror.

He added: "I'm a bit of a flirt with my friends but I'd never see a girl in a club and go and chat her up. Absolutely not. I'm a bit of a gibbering idiot around women."

James, who recently split up with co-star Sammy Winward (Katie Sugden) in a real-life romance, has shown off his on-screen prowess as the soap hunk, after snogging newcomer Eve Jenson (Suzanne Shaw) and his half-sister Maisie (Alice Coulthard).

But the soap's steamy scenes make him uncomfortable.

"I'm actually quite shy in many ways. I've had to take my top off a couple of times in Emmerdale and don't like it. I find it a bit embarrassing," he revealed.

Pictures emerged today of James apparently kissing co-star Catherine Tyldesley, who portrays his glamorous prison officer Abi Peterson in the soap.

But an Emmerdale insider insisted it was merely a peck on the cheek and the pair are just friends

Onions, garlic and cheese are top pongy foods, certain to switch off even the most amorous of co-stars - but it seems Sammy Winward has a tried and tested formula.

The 24-year-old, who plays hopeless romantic Katie Sugden in Emmerdale, likes to nosh on kebabs, if she is in a playful mood.

"If you want to annoy your co-star, eat a kebab!" she joked to Reveal.

Otherwise, Sammy likes to stock up on gum.

"I have lots of chewing gum," she said.

Despite having a number of lovers in the Dales, the actress still finds kissing scenes uncomfortable.

"I've been doing it for ages now but it's weird doing it with a mate. Imagine having to kiss one of your good friends over and over again - I just make light of it," she admitted.

Her screen alter-ego will soon be seen bedding ex-husband Andy, a situation she doesn't agree with.

"I'd advise her to take things slowly. If you get back with an ex, it's often on dodgy ground. You never know, though, it could work!" said Sammy.

Emmerdale' bosses want to replace Aaron's dead dog with a poodle.

Last week, a devastated Aaron (Danny Miller) broke down when his beloved Alsatian Clyde was savaged in a revenge attack as part of his ongoing feud with thug Mickey (Lee Oakes), but producers of the ITV1 show have come up with a way to help him cope.

Series producer Gavin Blythe joked: "I keep telling him I'm going to get him a poodle, which Danny doesn't really side the funny side of and I don't understand why."

However, Danny - who plays the gay teen in the soap - doesn't think Aaron will ever be ready to replace Clyde, who had to be put down because of his injuries.

He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I don't think he will get a new dog. I don't think he'll want to replace him, Clyde was a big part of his life. I know he was only a dog but I don't think it will be very easy for him just to replace him. I don't think there are any plans to get a new dog any time soon."

Hot-headed Aaron has previously admitted he has intimacy issues after a tough childhood, and Danny thinks Clyde provided "unconditional love" for the troubled mechanic.

He explained: "It's like it's his best mate, it's like he's actually in love with a dog because he's the only person he can really sort of care for. It's unconditional love, he doesn't talk back to him and I think Aaron loved being in control of the dog, in control of something in his life. They were like best mates.

Emmerdale star Rokhsaneh Ghawam-Shahidi promoted the benefits of a vegan lifestyle yesterday by wearing an eye-catching gown made entirely of lettuce leaves.

Standing outside the Leeds Corn Exchange, the actress showed off the unusual dress as she posed for cameras in an attempt to encourage more people to go vegan.

"I saw an immediate improvement in my skin, my waistline is trimmer, and I can enjoy delicious vegan food knowing that I'm in no way contributing to the suffering and death of animals."

'Emmerdale's' Dominic Brunt and Mark Charnock would love a cop buddy spinoff for their characters.

The duo - who play Paddy Kirk and Marlon Dingle in the ITV soap - revealed their dream storyline would involve the pair moving to New York to become crime fighters.

Dominic added: "They'd move to New York."

Mark - who depicts unlucky in love chef Marlon on the show - admitted he wishes their characters could get some more female attention.

Jeff Hordley plays pranks on his 'Emmerdale' co-stars which film love scenes with wife Zoe Henry.

The 40-year-old actor - who has appeared in the rural soap as badboy Cain Dingle since 2000 - deliberately tries to embarrass his real-life spouse, who joined the show as Rhona Goskirk in March this year.

Jeff normally takes no notice of all that, but on this occasion he turned round and said, 'What do you think you're doing?' Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon, and I went bright red, while everyone was howling with laughter. So he has the odd joke!"

She added to Inside Soap magazine: "It's fab to be working alongside Jeff. I thought it would be a bit weird for him, but he's been so cool about the whole thing. If I'd been there for 10 years, I think I'd have been a bit more huffy! But he's so gracious, and has been brilliant."

Emmerdale veteran Richard Thorp has decided to sell his Welsh home and move closer to the show's Leeds-based studios.

The 78-year-old actor, who plays long-standing character Alan Turner, currently lives in a four-bedroom country house in Powys, meaning that he has a long commute every time he is required on set for his soap scenes.

Speaking to Wales On Sunday, Thorp explained: "It's simply a question of age and work. I've been here for 13 or 14 years and I have totally loved living here.

"But I'm getting on a bit and it is a hell of a long drive to work. It didn't matter when I was doing a lot of work and I would stay for a few days, but I find myself doing a 150-mile trip to do one scene and then coming all the way back again. It's exhausting at my age."

He continued: "Emmerdale has been very good to me and has renewed my contracts for years, but they have not got as much work for me these days - I'm more like the village memorial now than an active character.

"Quite frankly, unless I was working like I used to, I couldn't afford to keep it. I need the work but it is getting very expensive to travel and live so far away, with the work I am getting. It gets harder and harder as you get older."

Thorp - who has been a member of the Emmerdale cast since 1982 - is thought to have put his property on the market for £750,000.

A woman's breach of bail allegation has been overturned after she used her knowledge of Emmerdale's scheduling as evidence in court.

Jacqueline Keam, from Bermondsey, stood accused of ignoring an order for her to have no contact with one of her neighbours. It was alleged that she had interacted with the person in question on October 27, when a commotion outside her home led to a man being taken to hospital.

According to the Southwark News, Keam was suspected of popping her head out of her front door after hearing the events unfolding outside. She was alleged to have then shouted "F**king good!", in violation of the the strict bail clause forbidding her from speaking to her neighbour.

However, appearing in court to defend herself against the charge, Keam insisted that she merely looked out of the front door before returning inside to watch Emmerdale.

After she took the stand, the woman's version of events was called into question, as she had previously told police that she was watching Fiver's first look screening of Home and Away at the time.

However, she insisted: "I was watching Emmerdale Farm straight after Home and Away - it comes straight after Emmerdale Farm. I looked outside, saw the police and ambulance, and went straight back to watch my programme."

District Judge Black ultimately decided to dismiss the matter, but Keam will appear in court again later this week to answer the charges of harassment and assault which sparked the no-contact order.

He may have only spent less than a year in the Dales, but Paul McEwan has admitted that he is too loyal to Emmerdale to consider another soap job.

The actor, who played twisted cop Shane Doyle in 2008 before leaving the same year after his character was murdered by Jasmine Thomas (Jenna-Louise Coleman), said he would be "torn" over the prospect of going into another soap.

Asked if he'd be keen to return to soapland, he said: "I am kind of torn. You never say no because they are such fantastic jobs but I have such love and loyalty for Emmerdale.

"When I left, we were joking that I would grow a moustache and come back as Shane's brother. I love being up in in the Dales as I'm from Yorkshire too."

He added: "I'm a great fan of the soaps and am very open to going into another, but my heart will always live in Emmerdale."

Paul is currently starring opposite Catherine Cusack in Tennessee Williams' The Two-Character Play at the Jermyn Street Theatre in London - a gig he is thrilled about.

"Up until this play, my favourite two jobs were the Royal Shakespeare Company and Emmerdale. It's the people you work with, how welcome you feel and how much joy you get going to work in the morning," he said.

Emmerdale actor Steve Halliwell has said that the Dingles are fan favourites because of their old-fashioned family values.

"I think people that are watching that don't have much money think, 'Yeah, they're right the Dingles, that's how it should be'."

When the Dingles hit the jackpot in a parallel universe in new spin-off DVD Dingles For Richer For Poorer, they go wild, spending the money on makeovers and fast cars.

But Steve Halliwell and Jane Cox, who play Zak and Lisa Dingle, weren't keen on their characters' new image - and even confessed that, given the choice, they would prefer the Dingles not to win the lottery as they like them the way they are.

Jane was particularly uncomfortable playing Lisa as a millionaire, as she had to squeeze into some chafing undies.

She revealed: "I had a rather extravagant hair do and some rather tight underwear - because I thought that posh Lisa would be quite constricted by her nether garments.

"So I had a push-up brassiere and pull-in type under-things, and I was glad to get them off at the end of the day, I can tell you!"

And Steve didn't share Zak's taste when it came to splashing the cash.

He said: "I think some of the vehicles were naff. I think Zak would have liked that car, but I just think if you had enough money to buy it, you wouldn't buy that - you'd buy something else."

Steve insists when push comes to shove, the Dingles put each other before money, and that's what makes them so popular.

He said: "They have the old fashioned family values. Despite them being petty thieves and a bit part of the under class of life, they still hold those old values that people are more important than money.

The 35-year-old soap star admits she's looking forward to working with Chris Bisson, who plays businessman Jai Sharma, and thinks there could be some excitement on the cards between their characters.

She said: "I'm due to do a lot of work with Chris Bisson. Our characters come together in a business situation which I don't know if they're going to turn that maybe into a more personal situation - watch this space."

But she hopes any hint of a fling will just bring Charity and Cain back together.

"It will create maybe a great spark again between Cain and Charity. Jealousy is always a good conflict and once you've got that on board Cain and Charity can work well again together."

Paul O'Grady has praised Emmerdale actor Danny Miller's appearance on the upcoming festive edition of his ITV chatshow.

Miller, who plays Aaron Livesy in the Yorkshire soap, appears on Paul O'Grady's Christmas alongside Bette Midler and Cilla Black, on Christmas Eve.

"Danny was pretty nervous," O'Grady told the TV Times. "But that’s because he hadn’t done anything like that before. Of course, he’s plonked next to Bette Midler and he's only 19.

"And I think, what would I be like at 19 on a prime-time television show sat next to Bette Midler? I'd be frozen rigid! But he's just so mature for his years, and a really smashing actor."

A self-proclaimed soap fan, O'Grady commended Miller for his performance as the gay teenager in the ITV show.

"I’m a massive Emmerdale fan," he said. "I love it. And I think what he’s been doing in the show is exceptional. Hats off to him!"

Paul O'Grady's Christmas airs on Christmas Eve at 9pm on ITV1.

Emmerdale actor Mark Charnock has praised the soap's "inspirational" baby plot.

In the current storyline, Rhona Goskirk has discovered that her unborn child is likely to be born with Down's syndrome. Under the strain of this knowledge, viewers have seen Rhona struggle to decide if she wants to keep the baby.

However, Charnock told Soaplife that the situation has helped Marlon come to terms with Rhona's new relationship with Paddy.

"It's made it seem so irrelevant. Marlon's convinced the three of them can make it work. They'll support each other," he said.

"Issues will come up but they are three good people who care for each other. Marlon now has his head around the fact that Rhona's with Paddy - the baby is all that matters now. It's an inspirational storyline."

He added: "He'll be great. Being a dad is something he's been waiting for his whole life."

Former Emmerdale star Hayley Tamaddon has revealed that she wants her character to return to the soap one day.

The Dancing On Ice champion played Delilah Dingle, who fled the village in 2007 with £20,000 of Eric Pollard's money after discovering David Pollard's affair with Katie Sugden.

Speaking of a potential comeback, she told Holy Soap: "I think Delilah should make an appearance one day. Who knows? She might turn up with David Pollard's baby and demand a few more thousand.

"I love my soaps and I miss my friends and family at Emmerdale but they keep me in touch with everything that's going on and it all sounds like it's really good stuff there.

"The storylines are really good, so hopefully they'll win some awards this year."

Tamaddon is currently preparing for the Dancing On Ice tour, which starts on April 9 in Sheffield.

Emmerdale newcomer Chelsea Halfpenny has revealed that she would like her aunt Jill Halfpenny to land a role on the show.

The actress told Inside Soap that Jill would be an ideal choice to play the mother of her troublesome character Amy Wyatt.

Jill is already well-known to soap fans after playing Rebecca Hopkins in Coronation Street, Kate Mitchell in EastEnders and Izzie Redpath in Waterloo Road.

Chelsea explained: "It would be good if Jill played my mum. I'll have to put a word in. We used to live together and have a lot of the same mannerisms, so it would work really well.

"Apparently Amy is still in touch with her mum. So you never know - it could happen!"

Amy is currently at the centre of a fostering storyline involving established characters Eric and Val Pollard, played by Chris Chittell and Charlie Hardwick.

"I couldn't be more lucky," Chelsea commented. "They both play funny, well-loved characters and they've made me feel very welcome. We're a proper little family unit - Charlie and Chris are like my mum and dad and really look after me.

"They absolutely love their jobs too, and it's nice to be around people who are so happy and relaxed."

Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher has revealed that he is flattered by attention from male fans.

The actor - Andy Sugden in the ITV soap - recently completed a shoot for gay magazine Attitude. Speaking to The Mirror, Fletcher admitted that he sometimes flirts back with his fans.

"It's dead flattering, isn’t it?" he said. "I have got a big gay following. I actually find it more flattering when a bloke comes on to you than a woman. I've even found myself flirting back sometimes!”

He continued: "I find it funny that I’m a pin-up. People seem to always mention my body these days and I suppose I have changed but I look just like all my mates - the only difference is, I'm on TV.

"I'm like most people. I keep fit for myself. I'm not religious about it but I like to get to the gym whenever I can.

"When I'm out and about, I never get chatted up by women in an obvious way," he added. "Saying that, I do seem to get these groups of girls coming up to me when I'm out and then suddenly you're getting your bum pinched!"

Fletcher is reportedly single after splitting from long-term girlfriend Liz Marsland.

Kelvin Fletcher has admitted that he feels protective of his Emmerdale character Andy Sugden.

Speaking to The Mirror, the actor insisted that he believes Andy is "misunderstood" by other characters in the ITV soap.

"I've grown up with Andy so I understand him," he told the paper. "I don't condone the bad things he's done but he's not evil. He's just a stupid, angry lad.

"I feel very protective of him. When you look at everything he's been through along the way, who wouldn't have a few problems? That's why his storylines with Katie have been so great. She's the only person left now who has known him since he was young."

The 27-year-old continued: "Andy's a real hot-head and the complete opposite to me. I just haven't got a temper at all. It's quite good fun being him - I get to let off some steam and act out all these angry scenes.

"In real life people assume I'm like Andy. If I'm out they'll be looking at me thinking I'm the one who'll kick off - but I'm always the peaceful one."

However, Fletcher confessed that he does expect there will come a time when he is ready to move on from the Yorkshire drama.

"Don't get me wrong, I would never think I was too good for the show but there are other things I would like to try in the future," he said. "I'll always be indebted to Emmerdale and I hope at some point it will lead me to try something else."

He told the PA: "I've had several [kitchen nightmares] on set as Marlon - once I had to crack an egg with one hand and it took at least 15 takes; it was ridiculous."

However, Charnock insisted that he can cook food to a high standard when he follows a recipe.

He revealed: "I'm good at following recipes - one of my signature dishes is Delia Smith's garlicky fish soup, which is just fantastic.

Lisa Riley played the outrageous Mandy Dingle in Emmerdale for five years, after Zak's leopard-print loving niece turned up for a flying visit and didn't leave.

But the actress insists she didn't think she'd last a week, as Mandy was meant to be on a short visit.

She told Inside Soap magazine: "Hand on heart, I genuinely thought it was going to be juts one episode.

"Everyone liked Mandy, though. She was the sort of girl who could live on your street - everyone's friend.

"I loved playing her and I'll be grateful for that part until the day I die."

Lisa left the Dales in 2001 but the 34-year-old actress is now plotting her comeback.

She said: "It's lovely because people beg me to bring Mandy back all the time, even now.

"Paddy and Mandy did spend one last night together before she left, so I like to think that she might have fallen pregnant as a result. I'd love to walk right through that village with a mini-Mandy in tow dressed head to toe in leopard print, looking for Paddy!"

Emmerdale star Nicola Wheeler has claimed that there is no guarantee her character Nicola King will want husband Jimmy back as the soap's current amnesia storyline continues.

The Kings are currently at the centre of a love triangle with a difference on screen as Jimmy (Nick Miles) has found himself increasingly drawn to his manipulative ex-fiancée Kelly Windsor (Adele Silva) after losing his memory.

Nicola is currently embroiled in a fight for Jimmy's affections, determined to make sure that Kelly does not succeed in stealing her confused husband.

However, speaking to Inside Soap about the plot's future, Wheeler revealed: "It's going to become less about defeating Kelly, and more about whether Nicola actually wants Jimmy back after everything that happens.

"His friends and family are telling him one thing, yet Jimmy is choosing to do the opposite. And there'll come a point where he has to take responsibility for all of the decisions that he's making."

She added: "Jimmy has made his bed and he'll have to lie in it."

Wheeler recently admitted that she is glad Nicola is being portrayed as the "good guy" on screen for once.

The Emmerdale star - whose character Ryan Lamb left the soap this week - has in the past dated co-stars Catherine Tyldesley and Sammy Winward - but revealed he is keen to settle down and is on the lookout for a prospective wife.

James said: "I really do want to settle down. I'm quite looking forward to the prospect - I just need to find a girlfriend - that would be awesome.

"I definitely want a family and a wife. I'm 28 so I'm getting on - but I know that's not old really, is it?"

The soap star also revealed now he has left Emmerdale he is looking forward to having some free time to do some DIY at home.

He said: "I'm looking forward to getting some time back just for me. I need to decorate my kitchen and I've been putting it off for ages - it's a state.

"I spent five or six days a week filming but it's was the hours as well. It's the nature of a soap - we have to transmit over two-and-a-half hours a week, which is more than a film. That puts it into perspective how much we have to shoot."

Jill Halfpenny has revealed that she is "glued" to Emmerdale now that her niece Chelsea is starring in the soap.

Chelsea has taken on the role of troubled Amy Wyatt on the ITV1 show and has been appearing on screen since October last year.

Speaking to Take 5 about her soap star relative, Jill admitted: "I've been glued to watching her. I think she's great. My only advice to her was to soak everything up and be nice to the cast and crew.

"It's a whirlwind being in a soap. You get so much attention and so many opportunities. Once you leave, you'll never have a job like that again."

Jill, who is mum to 3-year-old son Harvey, also refused to rule out returning to soap herself following her stints as Rebecca Hopkins on Coronation Street and Kate Mitchell in EastEnders.

She said: "People always ask if I'd ever go back to a soap like EastEnders or Corrie. Never say never! I try not to rule things out in my career. It depends where I'm at in my head.

"As soon as you have a child, it has a massive impact on what jobs you take. How long you're going to be away becomes the most important thing and how it will work with childcare."

Chelsea recently suggested that Jill would be an ideal choice to play Amy's mother in Emmerdale.

EMMERDALE will toast its 40th birthday in a spectacular live show.
TV chiefs want to match the success of live episodes by Coronation Street and EastEnders.
The ITV1 soap - whose newest arrival is former Hollyoaks hunk Matt Milburn - began as Emmerdale Farm in 1972.
It will be 40 next year, and bosses are planning dramatic plots that will reach a climax in the live show.
Corrie director Tony Prescott - who masterminded last year's live 50th anniversary when the Street was hit by a tram crash - has been recruited for the show.
Tony said: "I would love to do more live drama on TV.
"Television as an event is the future. Look at shows like The X Factor - all the biggest grossing shows now are live."
Corrie's 50th anniversary drew 15 million viewers, while 20 million tuned in for EastEnders' live 25th birthday show.
An Emmerdale source told TV Biz: "No storylines have been decided yet.
"Bosses want a big surprise and a big disaster. Corrie pushed the limits with their live stunts last year."

Emmerdale newcomer Kurtis Stacey has predicted that fans could see a different side to his character Alex Moss if he ever embarks on a serious relationship.

Since arriving in the village earlier this year as the new farmhand at Butlers, Alex has developed a reputation as a womaniser by seducing Hannah Barton and Victoria Sugden.

Speaking to Digital Spy on the red carpet at the British Soap Awards earlier this month, Stacey offered teasers on who could be the next lady to catch Alex's eye.

He commented: "I'm not sure if I can tell you who's next, but she's a bit of a naughty girl, I'll let you know that - she's a bit of a naughty one! And I'm not too sure, it could be anyone with Alex. Alex is just waiting for the next woman or girl, whoever turns up, he's after them."

Asked whether Alex could ever become a one-woman man, the actor replied: "I hope so, I hope he does. I think Alex has got it in him but he's got to meet the right woman. He's got to meet a woman that's got a backbone, a woman that can sort him out."

"If he's in a relationship, maybe he'll be different," he continued. "You'll have to see him in a relationship and then you'll know he's not a bad guy, he's a good guy."

Emmerdale's series producer Stuart Blackburn has insisted that there are currently no firm plans for the soap to broadcast a live episode next year.

Last month, reports suggested that the ITV1 drama will go live in October 2012 as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations.

However, speaking on This Morning today, Blackburn commented: "The rumours of the live ep are just that - rumours. Just rumours.

"We could do it and never say never. There is a little bit of me that's always excited by that. They're just rumours - but the 40th will be massive."

Show sources have also indicated that Emmerdale's 40th anniversary episode could centre around a big disaster storyline similar to Coronation Street's 50th birthday tram crash stunt.

However, responding to the suggestion, Blackburn said: "Again, it's just rumours. I think there is a danger with these big stunts that eventually from the audience's point of view, it's just another stunt."

LOVED-UP Emmerdale pair Danny Miller and Kirsty-Leigh Porter lark around in the sunshine after giving their rocky romance another chance.
We revealed in March how the lovebirds split amid rumours Danny, 20, had cheated.

Meanwhile Kirsty, 22, who plays Roz Fielding, tweeted that she dumped him because of his "unreasonable behaviour and for being disloyal".

But now she's agreed to take back the British Soap Award-winning Best Actor - Aaron Livesy in the ITV1 soap.

"They've been seeing each other again for a couple of weeks and they can't keep their hands off each other, "It's as if they've fallen in love all over again."

Gillian Taylforth has hinted that she would like to land a role in Emmerdale.

The former EastEnders star admitted that she is a fan of the Yorkshire serial, telling OK that she hopes Michelle Collins has paved the way for soap actors and actresses to appear in other serials.

"I love Emmerdale, so maybe you'll see me in the Dales yet," Taylforth told the magazine. "It's great that Michelle Collins is in Corrie. Let's hope she's broken the taboo that you can't go from one soap to another."

The 53-year-old played Albert Square's Kathy Beale for 15 years, before leaving the BBC soap in 2000. The character was killed off screen in a car accident in early 2006.

Taylforth admitted that she was disappointed not to be able to act alongside David Essex, who joined EastEnders as Eddie Moon earlier this month.

'Emmerdale' star Suzanne Shaw launches PR business

Emmerdale star Suzanne Shaw has launched her own business following her exit from the ITV1 soap.

In April, the former Hear'Say member announced that she had quit her role as flirty Eve Jenson after just over a year to focus more on her family life.

Shaw is now working on building up a theatre PR company called King and Queen PR.

"I'm excited about the future," she told the Daily Star Sunday. "I've always wanted to run my own business and the time finally felt right when I finished at Emmerdale.

"I've been in the industry since I was a child, so a PR company specialising in theatre and the arts seemed like the perfect business for me to start. Acting is still where my heart is but as all actors know you need something else to keep you busy when you're quiet."

Shaw added: "It's been keeping me busy these last few weeks and I'm really enjoying everything that comes with it, even down to working out figures and compiling spreadsheets. I'm now hoping that one day I'll have a business I can pass on to my son."

Shaw has already filmed her final scenes on Emmerdale and her character's exit will air later this summer.

The actress will appear opposite Louie Spence in a Manchester-based production of Cinderella this Christmas.

Joanna Page has revealed that she couldn't join her husband James Thornton on Emmerdale, as they would laugh too much.

The Gavin and Stacey star's husband plays John Barton in the soap, and she explained that she couldn't "take it seriously" if they appeared on screen together.

"I don't think we'd be able to film together because we'd probably start laughing," she told What's On TV.

"We've done panto together and we couldn't get through that without giggling. I know him so well, so looking at him and pretending that he was someone else would just make me giggle.

"I'd think, 'I know you're not John Barton the farmer from Emmerdale because I was washing your pants this morning in our washing machine in Dulwich', so I wouldn't be able to take it seriously. But I would quite like filming in the countryside."

Page added that she doesn't get jealous while watching Thornton's romantic scenes on the soap.

"They can't really do very much on Emmerdale, it doesn't really get that saucy so I'm not really that bothered about it!

"Also, we've been together now for so long. And it's part of the business. I'm more worried about him having his hand up a cow's bum."

Page recently said that it is unlikely that a Gavin and Stacey film will be made in the future.

Emmerdale bosses have announced plans for a new spinoff DVD centring around the characters of Paddy Kirk and Marlon Dingle.

The popular double act, played by Dominic Brunt and Mark Charnock, will take centre stage in Paddy and Marlon's Big Night In, which is due for release in November.

Penned by Emmerdale scriptwriter Paul Roundell and directed by the soap's assistant producer Tony Hammond, the feature-length episode has been tipped to follow "the events of a not-so-quiet night in the country, and a morning after anybody would want to forget".

The story begins when Paddy and his girlfriend Rhona (Zoe Henry) are both desperate for a night out with their respective friends, leading to a debate over who should give up their plans and stay in with baby Leo.

Hinting at what happens next, an Emmerdale statement teased: "A fed-up Paddy and Marlon eventually lose out and the babysitting begins. Only this is 2011, and children are welcome in pubs nowadays, so one quick beer at The Woolpack won't matter - or will it?"

Hammond commented: "Dominic and Mark are exceptional actors with genius comedy timing. The Big Night In project is a brilliantly-written spinoff giving them even more scope to show their true comedic skills.

"Paul's script is laugh-out-loud funny and I know the audience will be crying, albeit with tears of laughter, as Paddy and Marlon get to grips with the morning after the night before!"

Along with Brunt, Charnock and Henry, Paddy and Marlon's Big Night In stars Sammy Winward (Katie Sugden), Natalie Anderson (Alicia Gallagher), Natalie J Robb (Moira Barton), Tony Audenshaw (Bob Hope) and Eden Taylor-Draper (Belle Dingle).

Filming for the spinoff will take place over the next two months, ahead of its release on November 14.

Emmerdale has been named as the soap with the lowest class of UK viewers.

Audience data collected between May 2010 and May 2011 shows that 44% of the Yorkshire-based programme's viewers can be deemed as lower-middle class or working class according to the NRS social grading system.

By comparison, just 9.5% of Emmerdale fans were categorised as being upper class or upper-middle class, the Radio Times reports.

Hollyoaks was found to be next favourite soap of the lower classes, with Channel 4's Chester-based melodrama attracting 39% of viewers from the lowest income bracket compared to 9.6% from the highest.

The survey found Channel 5's Australian import Neighbours to have the most privileged viewers, with 21% hailing from the upper-classes and just 33% from the lower-classes.

The findings come from analysis of consolidated viewing data between May 2010 and May 2011.

Emmerdale star Natalie Anderson has revealed that she worked as a mascot for the Bradford Bulls rugby team before landing a role on the show.

The actress, who plays Alicia Gallagher in the ITV1 soap, confessed that it was one of a series of jobs she didn't enjoy prior to becoming an actress.

"I've had loads of rubbish jobs, but the worst was being a mascot for a rugby team," Anderson told Inside Soap magazine. "I dressed as a bull, and having to wear that big costume for two-and-a-half hours on a hot day was pretty horrid.

"The head was really stinky inside - you felt like you wanted to throw up the whole time!"

Emmerdale co-star Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas Dingle, also revealed that she too hated the job she had before becoming an actress,

She revealed: "I worked in a shoe shop which was awful in summer because of all the sweaty feet!

"But on the other hand, it was the most amazing job in the world, because every single pair of shoes was just beautiful, and we had the chance to buy them at cost price. I'm not sure that was so good for my bank balance though."

Emmerdale star Chris Chittell has been forced to abandon his week-long charity expedition after one of his trek companions was injured.

The actor, who plays Eric Pollard on the ITV1 soap, recently embarked on a 200-mile journey from Scotland's Fort William to Cape Wrath in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

However, events took an unexpected turn on Sunday when Chittell's fellow challenger Pete Quinn tried to jump a stream and slipped, causing a suspected Achilles tendon injury. As heavy rainfall had led to treacherous conditions, the whole walking team were rescued by helicopter yesterday.

Chittell told the Daily Record: "They came to get us by air, which is actually quite embarrassing because it is not a life-threatening situation, although if they had not got the guys out it would have been a very uncomfortable and very, very slow journey to head back to civilisation. It could have developed into something else.

"It's a little ironic given I have done a bit of charity stuff with search and rescue. Under the circumstances, it wouldn't have been safe to carry on. We were using daylight as much as possible and head torches but because the rainfall was so great, there were holes where you didn't see them.

"That's another reason why I thought it best not to continue, even if we dropped Pete off. It's hugely disappointing."

The 63-year-old, who trained extensively in preparation for the trek,, added that he intends to return and complete the challenge at a later date.

"We'll be back, without a doubt," he said. "It's got to be done."

Emmerdale stars Dominic Brunt and Mark Charnock have praised their upcoming DVD special, hailing its script as "fantastic".

The actors recently completed work on Paddy and Marlon's Big Night In, which focuses on their characters as they experience "a not-so-quiet night in the country, and a morning after anybody would want to forget".

Brunt and Charnock recently completed work on the spinoff project, which was officially unveiled at a press launch yesterday.

Reflecting on the experience, Brunt commented: "We had a brilliant time filming the DVD - the story allowed us to just push the comedy element a bit further than we would normally be able to. Instead of [director] Mike [Lacey] telling us to take it down a notch, we were able to let go and get on with it.

"Paul Roundell's script was fantastic and gave us the perfect vehicle for Paddy and Marlon's comedic relationship to shine. They're such loved characters and judging by the audience's reaction yesterday, the DVD will make even more people laugh with them, as well as at them!"

Meanwhile, Charnock said: "It was one of the best shoots I think I've ever done. Apart from the scene where our 10 foot boa constrictor 'Winnifred' got a little too friendly up my trousers! I can honestly say we had the greatest fun making the film and I hope that shows in the finished product. If people laugh watching it, as much as we laughed making it, then we've cracked it!"

Emmerdale's release of Paddy and Marlon's Big Night In follows the success of last year's DVD spinoff, The Dingles: For Richer, For Poorer.

ITV Studios' Product Manager Kylie Featherstone added: "Last year, The Dingles: For Richer, For Poorer, was one of ITV Studios Home Entertainment's most successful DVD releases. Emmerdale is a much-loved programme and it was a natural choice to work with the characters of Marlon and Paddy for the next feature-length release.

"The team up in Leeds have worked tirelessly around their normal filming schedule to produce a brilliant, funny, fast-paced comedy that I am sure will appeal to Emmerdale fans, and comedy fans in general."

Paddy and Marlon's Big Night In will be released on November 14.

Emma Atkins has starred in rural soap Emmerdale for more than a decade, but the actress has confessed she has a fear of cows.

The 36-year-old actress has been in the countryside show - formerly known as Emmerdale Farm - as Charity Tate on-and-off since 2000.

But Emma revealed to Inside Soap magazine: "I have a phobia about cows! I've been filming scenes where there have been cows and I had to make sure that I could see them at all times so I knew what they were up to.

"I was paranoid they were going to get close."

Feisty Charity has had one failed marriage and three failed weddings in the soap, but she is now engaged to Jai Sharma.

Emma said she is looking forward to filming the wedding, adding: "Weddings are always the most exciting episodes to film, because you know everything will be packed into the episode - a fight, kissing, falling out, making up. You're always guaranteed great dialogue."

She added she doesn't care what she wears - "as long as it's as over-the-top as possible".

Emmerdale star Dominic Brunt has joked that he was disappointed when he discovered his spinoff DVD would be set in Leeds.

The actor stars alongside Mark Charnock in Marlon And Paddy's Big Night In, which sees the pair experience "a not-so-quiet night in the country, and a morning after anybody would want to forget".

Brunt has since admitted that he was hoping to visit a more exotic location than Emmerdale's existing set to film the DVD, which is released on November 14.

According to PA, Brunt said: "When we first found out they were doing it we knew they'd filmed in Australia before and they'd filmed in Venice and we thought 'Yes?! Where's it going to be?' Leeds - that was a bit disappointing."

Speaking of a three-minute dance scene, which took five hours to film, Charnock continued: "It was quite stressful. I didn't enjoy it massively, but we got through it without having to wear tights."

"I used to break-dance. About 30 years ago and three stone ago!" Brunt added.

The soap duo recently promised that Marlon And Paddy's Big Night In would provide laughs for the audience, praising Paul Roundell's "fantastic" script.

Emmerdale's Mark Charnock has revealed his terrifying close encounter with a live snake while filming the soap's new spin-off DVD.
Mark and Dominic Brunt star in Marlon And Paddy's Big Night In - available from November 14 - which sees the dopey duo wake up after a wild drunken night out to find a snake in the house, and they can't remember where it came from. Mark had to film a scene with the snake crawling over his feet - but it went up his trousers.
Mark revealed: "The snake really went up my trousers! It wouldn't do anything for a lot of the time, it just stayed still like a draught-excluder. And on the final shot it was meant to crawl across my feet, and I sat there and it went up my trousers.
"I wasn't snake-aphobic, until that moment. It went up my leg, all the way to the top, and I could feel it's tongue flicking against my shin. I'm not a brave person anyway, and then because it was a boa constrictor I could feel it starting to squeeze and I was thinking 'Just shout cut now'!
"I could see all the crew shaking with laughter. And somewhere in the out-takes there's me swearing quite profusely."

Emmerdale star Natalie J Robb has bought her first home as she plans to settle down.

The actress, who plays Moira Barton in the ITV1 soap, purchased a four-bedroom property in Harrogate, close to co-stars Mark Charnock (Marlon Dingle) and Emma Atkins (Charity Tate).

"I'm ready to put down roots," she told the Daily Record. "I'm so sick of living out of a suitcase. I want it to be a family home so my mum, brother and sister can visit.

"I'd also like to have children. I'm more broody now than I have ever been. You'd have thought at my age I'd have had one by now, but I've been living in London for a while. It was so expensive, it was ridiculous.

"It's also very difficult not having a constant wage. Harrogate is like home now. It is one of the most beautiful parts of England."

Coronation Street's busybody Norris Cole and EastEnders' Dot Cotton should join Emmerdale, the rural soap's producer Stuart Blackburn has said.
Stuart would like the two beloved soap characters - played by Malcolm Hebden and June Brown respectively - to appear in the village for a crossover.
"I adore Norris, and I'd love to bring Dot and Edna together, because despite being superficially similar, I think they'd hate each other," he told Inside Soap.
"They'd probably each describe the other as sanctimonious and po-faced!"
Stuart is planning "the best" 2012 storylines for Emmerdale, as the ITV soap celebrates its 40th anniversary next year.
"We're hoping to do something very different that redefines our new, modern Emmerdale. I want every story we play to be big, powerful and emotional," he continued.
"I want to try to find a way of giving every single character a voice and a role. I want 2012 to have the best storylines the show has ever had. That's a start - and the rest will be unveiled shortly!"

What does your typical Saturday involve?

Family time is really precious to me so I like spending the day with my wife Zoe (who plays Emmerdale vet Rhona Goskirk) and my children Violet, six, and Stan, three.

We usually do something related to the outdoors then eat a nice meal together.

We’ve got an allotment so we might spend some time down there or give our dog Rita – a five-month-old *spaniel-poodle mix – a good walk in the countryside, then all come home and watch a film together.

Are you an early bird or the king of *lie-ins? What are lie-ins?! I’ve got two children so lie-ins are out of the question. Remember the times when you used to stay in bed late and sleep off a hangover? Well, those are long gone for me.

To be honest, I’m not really one for sleeping late. I enjoy getting up and making the most of the day.

What’s been your best party weekend?

Graeme Hawley, who played Corrie murderer John Snape, had a great stag weekend. It was a brilliant laugh and one of those great times where everything comes together. A group of us went to the Green Man Festival, so we were in a great place with good company.

There were only 13,000 people there so it had a really nice feel and the music was really good.

There were loads of like-minded people there and lots of things to do. *Unlike a lot of festivals, there wasn’t loads of mess. I sound like a right old man by saying this, don’t I? But I am these days!

At my age, you want a festival with good food and where people clear up after themselves.

Saturday night – out on the tiles or cosy evening in? I don’t do many big nights out these days. I’ve done my share of partying and I’m more of a homebody now. I’m nothing like Cain, put it that way!

If I do go out, I like going to gigs to see live music. My favourite venues are smaller places, such as The Brudenell Social Club in Leeds or The Deaf Institute in Manchester.

Where’s your favourite place to nip for a pint? I don’t have a local as such but I do know some nice pubs near where we live in North Yorkshire. I’ve started to get into real ale as I’ve got older so I’m always searching for places where they serve good beer.

What would be your ideal weekend away?

If it was a weekend away without children, I’d love to take my wife back to Italy, where we’ve had a really special time in the past, on the Amalfi coast.

It’s extremely beautiful and the food is out of this world. There are places built into the hills and it’s very cool, it’s got a real 1950s/1960s feel.

Who does the cooking at the weekend? We tend to take it in turns at the weekend. We both love big roasts that everyone can share and cooking for the family is a real pleasure.

What’s your idea of weekend hell?

Shopping. I don’t hate it but let’s say I’d rather not spend my free time standing about in shops. Isn’t that what the internet was invented for?

Emmerdale star James Thornton is lucky to be alive after plunging into an icy river to save his actress wife Joanna Page’s beloved dog.

The actor, 36, was swept along in raging waters during his bid to rescue Jack Russell Daisy, who had jumped in.

He eventually crawled out with the animal safely in his arms but had to go to hospital after swallowing dirty water and suffering severe mouth ulcers.

James, who got married to Gavin & Stacey star Joanna in 2003, said: “Daisy loves water and suddenly she just jumped in without warning. Luckily I was in my running kit, not heavy clothes, so I took my trainers off and went in straight after her.

“She probably just remembers it as a fun day when she went swimming with me, but that’s not how I’ll remember it.”

The Yorkshire-born actor, who plays farmer John Barton in the soap, also suffered a damaged eye after being dragged against branches jutting from the bank of the River Aire in Leeds.

James went jogging with Daisy last month near the home he shares with Jo.

The dog jumped in unexpectedly but was unable to swim against the strong current.

So James leapt in after her but after grabbing her he found himself out of his depth and overpowered by the current.

The fast-flowing river carried them both downstream before he managed to make his way over to the bank and eventually scramble out with Daisy in his arms.

James explained: “I wasn’t scared when I jumped in, but once I hit the water and realised I couldn’t swim back against the current I was worried about what I’d done. There had been torrential rain and the river was moving fast.

“Once I caught up with Daisy I just had to let us be carried along and when we got to some banking I managed to get to the side and scramble out. My eye was quite sore and I was sick for a few weeks afterwards, I think as a result of swallowing so much of the water.

“At one point I had 20 mouth ulcers and could hardly speak.”

Daisy holds a special place in the couple’s affections and even helped James with his proposal to Joanna, 33, on the beach near her family home in Swansea, South Wales, on Christmas Day 2002.

He revealed: “I’d put the ring in a pouch around Daisy’s neck. I told Jo to call Daisy, she opened the pouch and found the ring – it was lovely. I’ve been known to be romantic sometimes.”

In another interview he said: “It’s odd playing a dad. In real life, I don’t even have kids – just a Jack Russell called Daisy. When I have to think about how much I love my on-screen kids, I just think about how much I love Daisy.”

James announced recently that he will quit the ITV1 soap next year. The soap launches a dramatic mystery storyline later this week as one of Cain Dingle’s enemies brutally attacks him before leaving him for dead – and James’s character John becomes a suspect.

James, who was injured when he was hit by a car in London last year, can count himself fortunate that he came through the incident alive.

At least nine people have died after falling into the River Aire in the last three years. Leeds Council is considering safety measures to cut the number of fatalities.

EMMERDALE vet Paddy Kirk has become an unlikely heart-throb – as actor Dominic Brunt reveals he is inundated with "filthy" letters from female viewers. Dominic says: "It's stuff that would spin your head. They introduce themselves very politely, then say what they'd like to do to me.

"They are women of a certain age who clearly have experience and are maybe not having experiences any more. So they are thinking back, then embellishing what they've done and saying what they want to do to me. I think it's because Paddy looks after animals and he's not sleazy or a baddie. But he's still a completely unlikely sex symbol."

Dominic's army of admirers are in for a treat with the release of a feature-length Emmerdale DVD — Paddy And Marlon's Big Night In. Co-starring Mark Charnock as Marlon Dingle and Zoe Henry as Paddy's girlfriend Rhona, the film features hilarious scenes showing Paddy and Marlon getting to grips with a male stripper and a snake.

It also shows Paddy on the dancefloor, including an impressive break-dancing routine. When he was younger, the 6ft 1in actor was part of break-dance troupe Funk Junction Crew, who performed in matching hoodies and baseball caps.

Dominic, 41, jokes: "It was 30 years and four stone ago. I was a teenager and quite athletic at the time. I'd told Mark in confidence and when we had to dance for the DVD he let it slip, so they wrote a sequence.

"I haven't done it for 12 years and even then it was when I was drunk at a party, so I was a bit nervous, but it went OK.

"Some people have assumed I used a stunt double but it really is me break-dancing."

Emmerdale's series producer Stuart Blackburn has promised that "big" plans are being made for the soap's 40th anniversary.

Emmerdale reaches its milestone late next year and show bosses are apparently hoping to create an event which is as successful as Coronation Street's 2010 tram crash disaster.

Coronation Street came up with the tram stunt last December to mark the Weatherfield soap's 50th birthday.

Blackburn told the Daily Star: "What Corrie did with the tram crash was amazing - but we want to do something as big but very different."

Refusing to rule out a live episode for the occasion, he added: "That would be amazing."

Meanwhile, the newspaper has speculated that Emmerdale chiefs are likely to create a "hellraising" stunt involving all of the show's characters for the anniversary episodes.

Emmerdale celebrates its 40th birthday on October 16, 2012.

Former Emmerdale actress Roxanne Pallett was allegedly set upon by a vicious dog in a gang attack.

The 29-year-old, who played Jo Sudgen in the ITV soap between 2005 and 2008, had the Staffordshire bull terrier thrust in her face by three people on a train journey to Manchester, with one commanding the animal to "get her", according to The Sun.

Guards came to Pallett's defence after she pulled the empty carriage's communication cord, but the gang fled at a train station.

"They started out by calling her by her Emmerdale name and their abuse got nastier and nastier," a friend said. "They started saying how she must think she's better than everyone else because she chose to ignore them. She was petrified and thought the dog was going to rip her to pieces."

Pallett gave a statement to British Transport Police at the end of her journey.

A spokesman confirmed that they are investigating "abusive behaviour".

TELLY'S Roxanne Pallett told last night how she feared she would be savaged as train thugs terrorised her with a dog.

The ex-Emmerdale star, 29, escaped the fierce bull terrier, but said after a gang pinned her in a carriage: "I've never been so frightened."

The trembling star said as she relived having to pull the emergency cord to escape: "I thought I was going to get bitten, beaten up or stabbed.

"They went mental. One picked up the dog and gestured that he was going to throw it at me.

"The others were just laughing and saying, 'Go on, get her... throw the dog at her'.

"He was thrusting it at me — using it like a weapon.

"I'm a tough person but I was shaking for an hour afterwards. They could have given someone a heart attack."

Her horrifying Broken Britain ordeal was exclusively revealed in The Sun yesterday.

Roxanne was on a train home from filming an episode of BBC1's Casualty.

She said: "I just thought, 'This is going to end bad'.

"They could have had knives — and they were off their heads on drugs and alcohol."

Her hell on the 15:05 Carmarthen to Manchester Piccadilly service came after she boarded the train in Cardiff, where Monday's TV shoot was held.

The pint-size brunette, who is just 5ft 1in, found herself a cosy corner seat in one of the carriages.

She was so busy reading scripts during the journey she never noticed that by the time the three thugs got on she was the only other person in the carriage.

The trio — all in their 20s and one of them a girl — boarded the Arriva Trains Wales service at Craven Arms, Shropshire.

That was around midway through what for Roxanne had been a pleasant and uneventful trip home to Manchester.

The newcomers initially sat where the actress was unable to see them. But they had clearly clocked her.

Roxanne, who played Jo Sugden in ITV's Emmerdale until 2008, could hear their raucous reaction to having a "celebrity" in the carriage. She said:

The group sounded like they'd had some drinks. They were very rowdy.

Then they started shouting out my name.

I heard a discussion about 'that Roxy from Emmerdale'.

Everyone who is an actor is used to getting recognised. But this went on for half an hour.

They were saying how they hated Emmerdale, celebrities and actors. It was really derogatory stuff.

Then the ticket conductor came over and started chatting about Emmerdale.

I was worried this would draw more attention.

Suddenly a girl in her early 20s abruptly planted herself in front of me.

She demanded to know if I was Roxy from Emmerdale.

I thought that if I confirmed it that would make things worse — so just smiled and put my head down.

Then the others started calling me 'little slag', 'bitch', 'ugly'. They were talking about my character, saying: "If I was Andy Sugden I would have ********* her up even more.

"Andy Sugden should have finished you off."

At that point they all got up and walked over.

That's when I realised it was two massive men with dogs.

They had two and both looked like the ferocious ones you'd see guarding something in a film.

Roxanne told how by this time her "heart was racing" and she felt powerless — with a growing sense of panic.

She found herself "praying" that the two hulking shaven-headed louts — whose dogs she believes were Staffordshire bull terriers — would simply walk past her. But her hopes were in vain.

Roxanne shuddered as she recalled:

They sat down with their female friend. The guys started ripping into me for denying I was Roxy.

The dogs were snarling at me. I was trapped in my seat.

I just couldn't get out as they'd blocked me off. I was on my own and so scared. Then one of them picked up one of the dogs and started laughing.

Roxanne realised she had to get away. She jumped from her seat and managed to push past the gang and their dogs.

The frantic actress realised her only hope was the next carriage — where others were sitting.

But as she headed towards the connecting door one of the tracksuited thugs began screaming: "You don't know what we're like, we're crazy!"

She said it was at this point that they "went mental".

One of the snarling dogs was again picked up by a lout — who chillingly began to menace her with it. His chums were urging him to hurl the animal at the actress.

Roxanne said: "Two seconds later he would have done."

She was only saved because she had the presence of mind to hold up her mobile phone to take the gang's picture.

As the thugs hesitated it bought her precious seconds.

She made it into the next carriage — and desperately pulled the emergency communication cord to summon help.

By chance the train at that moment was pulling into Shrewsbury station in Shropshire. What happened next left the actress even more stunned.

Struggling to contain her rage, Roxanne said: "Everybody looked at me as if I'd inconvenienced THEM."

Worse still, she claims she also received no sympathy from the train's staff. Roxanne said:

The driver came out and said: "What the hell are you doing?" He didn't even ask me what was wrong.

I said: "Don't open the doors we need to get someone." But he did nothing. All I wanted to do was get a member of staff to assist me. But as we were in a station, the gang just ran off laughing.

I wanted them sorted out because an hour later they could have been mugging an old lady.

I didn't want to open the newspaper in a month and see that they've knifed an old lady. We should all report things like this. They were out for trouble.

Roxanne — speaking at her home in Manchester — said that when the conductor arrived in the carriage he told her the assailants were KNOWN "troublemakers and fare dodgers".

The actress last night demanded: "Why are staff allowing them on the train? If you brawled in a pub or club you'd be barred. There needs to be a massive improvement with security."

Roxanne, who escaped injury, continued on the train to Manchester where British Transport Police had been alerted.

Waiting officers took a statement from her.

Last night they were hunting the gang — and Arriva chiefs vowed to do all they could to help.

Roxanne said: "It's come to something in society when you're scared to travel on the train."

Emmerdale star Charlie Hardwick has revealed that she would like to be a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.

The actress, who is currently on a break from her role as Val Pollard in order to star in a new play on Tyneside, said that she has always wanted to learn to dance because she used to be a "headbanger".

Hardwick told the Evening Chronicle: "Would I ever do a reality show? I'm a vegetarian so I can't go in the jungle. I would do Strictly. I'd like to learn how to dance. I'm a headbanger from The Mayfair in the '70s, so it's about time I upped the ante a bit. I think I'd be out in the first week!

"I certainly couldn't do Dancing on Ice but [Strictly Come Dancing] has a certain elegance."

Hardwick admitted that she has been put off ever appearing on Celebrity Big Brother after watching long-time friend Denise Welch being caught up in a row with her younger female housemates. She said: "If it was me, it would have been the first live strangulation. So I think I'd better not [do Big Brother]."

Hardwick's fellow soap stars Kara Tointon, Patsy Kensit and Tina O'Brien all took part in Strictly Come Dancing 2010. Tointon eventually won the competition.

Coronation Street bosses have reportedly offered Brooke Vincent a "mega-bucks" deal to stay at the soap.

Producers were worried that the actress, who plays Sophie Webster, would quit to spend time in Wales where her Chelsea footballer boyfriend Josh McEachran is on loan to Swansea City.

To prevent her quitting like on-screen sister Helen *Flanagan (Rosie) and Katherine Kelly (Becky McDonald), executives will negotiate a six-figure deal before her current contract runs out in May.

"One of the reasons Helen left was that she found the commute to Swansea from Manchester hellish to see Scott," a source told The Mirror.

"Bosses know Brooke is in love with Josh. Part of the negotiations, as well as more money to make sure she stays, will be making sure her filming *schedules ensure she has a decent amount of time to get to see Josh.

"Brooke is hugely popular with the younger viewers and is seen as an essential part of the soap's future."

Emmerdale's new recruit Gaynor Faye has promised that there are "brilliant" plans afoot for the soap's 40th anniversary.

The actress, who joins the village in the role of Megan Macey tonight (February 21), expressed her excitement at being part of the programme in time for October's milestone.

Faye previously missed out on Coronation Street's 40th birthday by just over a year, as she finished playing Judy Mallett on the cobbles in late 1999.

"I missed out on the Corrie one - so I'm going to do the Emmerdale one! That will be fantastic," Faye told Lorraine today.

She added: "They've got some brilliant things planned."

Faye also said that she is delighted by the warm welcome she has received from Emmerdale's regulars since she began filming.

"They're so lovely, it's so nice," she explained. "Everybody's been so kind to me. They've shown me down the corridors. Because all the studios are different, I'm often found wandering down the corridors!

"They've been really, really lovely. I know it's a cliché and everyone says that it's like one big family, but it really is."

Emmerdale celebrates its 40th anniversary on October 16.

Jill Halfpenny has revealed that she would be interested in playing Amy Wyatt's estranged mother on Emmerdale.

"We've always said that we'd love to work together, so I'd never turn down the opportunity."

The 36-year-old added that she manages to keep her career versatile by taking on a variety of jobs.

Emmerdale star Zoe Henry has said she wouldn't want to have a storyline with her real-life husband Jeff Hordley in the soap.
The actress plays vet Rhona - who is in a relationship with Paddy - while her husband Jeff plays bad boy Cain. Zoe reckons Rhona and Cain would never get on.
She told Inside Soap magazine: "Let's be honest, Rhona and Cain would never interact!
"The only way they'd cross paths is if Cain bought a hamster and brought it into the vets, which is most unlikely. I can't imagine them having a conversation about anything."
Zoe said it's good not working with her husband directly on the show, as it means they can exchange soap gossip when they get home.
She said: "Jeff and I quite like that we don't do scenes together. It means we've got different days to talk about when we get home."

Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter has said that she does not believe she will ever be "fully satisfied" with her body, despite having undergone numerous surgical procedures.

The actress, Chas Dingle in the ITV1 soap, told The Mirror that she saw no reason to hide that she had had two boob jobs, liposuction and Botox.

"It used to be a real taboo *admitting you'd had things done but I never felt that," Pargeter said. "I've always been very open about what I've had and why I've done it.

"The way I see it, if I want to have my boobs done or have a bit of lipo, I will do. It's no-one else's business really."

She continued: "My view is, if it gives you confidence and makes you feel good about yourself then it's worth it. If I'm being honest I can't imagine being fully satisfied with my body but that's just me."

The 34-year-old admitted that being filmed in high definition "hasn't helped", adding that she "can't bear" to watch herself.

"You can see every line and wrinkle. That isn't *something any woman would enjoy," she said. "Like most actors I spend most of my time going through extreme emotions and all that drama plays havoc with your face."

Pargeter also revealed that she is to have her right implant checked out after realising that "something isn't right".

"It isn't to do with PIP implants. Thank goodness I didn't have those," she said. "It's probably just one of these things. But I do need to get it checked. As I see it, that's part of the whole process, it's about keeping everything in good order."

James Sutton has launched his own company that aims to help budding actors.

The former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star has launched Broken Leg Workshops, which offers weekend courses to new hopefuls.

He wrote on Twitter: "I got me a company. Get on it... RT @BLWorkshops"

Sutton explains on the company's website that he is aiming to offer help and advice for new actors in a way that he wished he had been given at an early age.

"While I was starting out as an actor, being in front of a camera used to fill me with dread. I used to worry that I was over-acting. Or under-acting. Or just doing bad acting. The whole experience left me feeling very anxious and uncomfortable," he said.

"If only there was somewhere I could go and hone my skills. Somewhere where I didn't feel any pressure, somewhere where it was okay to make mistakes. Wouldn't it be helpful if there was somewhere I could go to learn from actors I respected and people who knew what I was going through.

"Now there is..."

Sutton is joined by the likes of Jessica Fox (Hollyoaks), Bronagh Waugh (Hollyoaks), Dominic Power (Emmerdale), Mark Charnock (Emmerdale), Steven Arnold (Coronation Street) and Adam Best (Holby City), who will also provide help in the project.

Workshops include two eight-hour days, with students working on different techniques and filming scenes with team members. The second day involves industry experts and professional casting directors giving personal acting training.

Students will also get to use top-quality camera equipment and scripts, and will get to perform in front of casting directors and agents.

James Sutton made a guest appearance on BBC One's Doctors earlier this year.

However, the stunts ended up damaging parts of the moorland, with work now under way to repair a track and footpath.

While funding the improvement project in the area, Emmerdale producers are also paying for the resurfacing of the paths on the edge of the moor, with work costing up to £26,000, reports the Ilkley Gazette.

Chairman of the Friends of Ilkley Moor Owen Wells said: "After the filming the Friends had many disagreements with Emmerdale as to the funding of the work to repair the damage done by the filming equipment, but I am pleased to say apart from a £2,000 donation to the Friends and funding for the damage, we are most grateful for a further grant."

The soap's producers hired contractor Dinsdale Moorland Services to take control of the project, and will pay the company directly. Permission for the repair work has been granted by Natural England and English Heritage.

An Inside Soap survey has found that 41% would live in the rural Yorkshire village, while 22% would reside in EastEnders' Walford, and only 20% would move to Coronation Street's Weatherfield.

In contrast, readers believe Coronation Street is the most realistic soap, with Hollyoaks being the most fictional.

The Branning and Mitchell families in EastEnders are the most popular in soapland, with readers asked which clans they would be a member of.

Elsewhere in the survey, 80% of participants called for a further injection of humour into British soaps, while 57% want to see more genuine love stories on screen.

Meanwhile, only 20% of the magazine's readers would advocate more affairs and pregnancy plots.

"In real life, I wanted to tell everyone - but you can't tell everyone because of the scan. On screen, I wanted to keep it all quiet! I'm doing the opposite in real life to what I'm doing on screen."

The 37-year-old also said that he believes Jai is a good man at heart, despite his recent infidelity.

He said: "[Jai's] always been a good, likeable character. Good people do bad things. I don't know if I feel sorry for him, but it's certainly interesting to play. The more problems he has, the more fun I have at work.

"[Jai] wants to have it all. He's a good guy - he wants to do the right thing by Rachel, he wants to do the right thing by Charity, and more importantly he wants to do the right thing by himself - it's a selfish thing. By trying to do the right thing by everyone, he's helping no-one - and that's going to be his downfall."

Ex-Emmerdale actor Seamus Gubbins has been arrested on suspicion of running a cannabis farm.

Gubbins, best known for portraying stalker Ray Mullan in ITV's rural soap, has pleaded guilty on the charge that he was using the Class B drug for his own use.

The value of the plant drug yield was between £12,500 and £24,800, according to the Daily Star.

The father-of-two, born in Ireland, could face a jail sentence as long as two years.

Judge David Fletcher adjourned the case, acknowledging that Gubbins could have used his 25 plants for commercial purposes.

"There is undoubtedly a set-up which is capable of something more adventurous," he said.

"You have entered a guilty plea and the court now has to decide where the level of your guilt lies."

"There isn't enough drama on TV and when there is, the roles for women over 40 are few and far between, so then you've got hundreds, if not thousands all going for the same role," PA quotes her as saying.

"I think soaps are good for women because they always write for strong women. That's always been the case in Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks as well.

"I think it's very good for those, but as far as drama's concerned, the roles are definitely few and far between and you start becoming invisible after 35 if your boobs aren't as pert as they were and you're not a size 8. It just seems to be about looks these days.

"I'd like to see it change, because we've seen Desperate Housewives - they're all in their 40s - you can write for older women and it's just as interesting as having young kids."

King, who played Kim Tate on Emmerdale, recently revealed that she would consider making a brief return to the soap.

Emmerdale legend Chris Chittell is re-attempting a 200-mile Scotland walk for charity.

The 64-year-old actor, who has played Eric Pollard in the rural soap since 1986, will begin the trek from Fort William to Cape Wrath tomorrow (August 31) in aid of the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research charity.

Last September, Chittell was rescued by a helicopter and the walk was abandoned after a fellow challenger tore his Achilles tendon while jumping a stream.

The star had originally hoped to complete the challenge in April, but nobody was available.

Chittell told the Daily Record: "When we rescheduled for April, I ended up Billy-no-mates for one reason or another and I did the West Highland Way instead.

"We're leaving again on Friday and hopefully we'll be able to overcome the vast amount of bogs, zillions of midges and other obstacles to cover two weeks' worth of walking in seven days.

"Scotland is beautiful and amazing and on our doorstep."

"Then I thought all our mates would be like, 'Oh cheers, thanks for the invite'."

The couple are parents to 7-year-old daughter Lola.

A 3-year-old girl who starred on Emmerdale as a baby has died after her dress caught alight on a gas fire.

Sophie Firth, who appeared as Jimmy and Nicola King's daughter Angelica for three months in 2009, passed away on Tuesday (December 11) after nine days in hospital, the Daily Mail reports.

Firth was at her grandmother's home when the tragic accident occurred on December 2. She and her family were staying at the house in Skellow, South Yorkshire while their own nearby residence was being renovated.

Reports suggest that the youngster suffered 70% burns and later lost her battle to survive after developing a blood infection.

Firth's uncle Mick Harhoff commented: "Sophie was such a lovely little girl and she was exceptionally bright. She always used to say that she wanted to be a princess. You do expect that one day you may bury your parents but you never expect to bury a child."

Nicola Wheeler, who plays Emmerdale's Nicola, tweeted this week: "Tonight there is a star that burns a little more brightly. xxx"

The role of Angelica is currently played by Rebecca Bakes.

New Emmerdale producer Kate Oates could offer Riley a deal to rejoin the cast, the Daily Star Sunday reports.

"Lisa has been a huge hit on Strictly so it's no great surprise Emmerdale bosses want her back," a source said.

"Mandy's ex-husband *Paddy Kirk is having marriage *problems so it makes sense to bring back Lisa."

A friend of Riley's admitted that the 36-year-old would have to think hard about making a comeback to Emmerdale.

"Lisa loved her time on Emmerdale but she's finally known for being Lisa Riley rather than Mandy Dingle," the source said.

"She wants to use her Strictly success to open new doors. Having said all that, she isn't stupid enough to rule out a return without at least discussing it."

Emmerdale actress Natalie Anderson is to be a guest presenter of the showbiz slot on ITV1's Daybreak.

The 31-year-old, famed for playing Alicia Metcalfe in the soap, will be filling in for showbiz editor and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Richard Arnold.

Anderson will present the segment at 7.50am from January 2 to January 4. Arnold will return to the role from January 7 onwards.

Anderson said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining the Daybreak team next week! I can't wait to get started and hope I do the lovely Richard proud."

The Dales actress is following X Factor contestant Rylan Clark in the role. Clark took on the job for a week last month.

At the time, Arnold said: "The wonderful thing about this hurly-burly business we call show is that you know ultimately you will one day be replaced by someone younger, thinner and in this case much taller than you.

"I wish Rylan all the best in his new role at Daybreak."

Former Emmerdale star Marc Silcock has revealed that he would not rule out another soap role.

The actor bowed out from his part as tetraplegic Jackson Walsh on the ITV1 show in mid-2011. He also previously played Eli on Channel 4's Hollyoaks.

Silcock told The Sun: "Emmerdale really was the best job of my life. You do so much in such a short period of time that your improvement is really dramatic.

"I held on to the role for as long as possible, but my exit storyline - Jackson's controversial assisted suicide - was so good it was worth leaving for.

"I honestly couldn't rule out going back to soap in the future. But it would have to work for me. I wouldn't do it for the sake of it."

Silcock returns to screens next week as he appears as a soldier in BBC One's new daytime drama Privates.

He said: "It was definitely a different experience. Aside from playing a soldier on an Army camp, drama is so different to soap.

"On Emmerdale I used to get through 50 pages of script a day, so to suddenly change to six pages filmed over a 14-hour day was a real shock. Everything has to be perfect. But it is a fantastic drama and has been a real learning curve.

"I need to spend more time doing shows like this to learn as much as possible. There is scope for two more series of Privates, and I definitely would come back if they were commissioned and the team wanted me again."

Privates begins on Monday, January 7 at 2.15pm on BBC One.

Patsy Kensit has revealed the extent of her affection for playing Emmerdale superbitch Sadie King.

The 44-year-old actress, who played the soap villain for two years, praised the show's writers for imagining the character.

"The one great thing about being an actress is I love playing different characters and I was really blessed with Sadie King," she told BANG Showbiz.

"She was this total bitch and the writing was incredible. I worked with a brilliant cast on Emmerdale and I learnt so much from them. I loved it."

After leaving Emmerdale in 2004, Kensit swiftly joined Holby City, in which she played ward sister Faye Byrne.

The star reminisced: "Holby was again a wonderful experience, a very complicated character, but the nice thing is to play different characters."

Announcing her departure in 2010, Kensit admitted that the role had left her "knackered".

She reiterated: "I was on Emmerdale for two-and-a-half years and then went straight onto Holby for four-and-a-half years and worked really, really vigorously and it was long hours."

Last year, Kensit said she would be open to a return to either soap when her 13-year-old son Lennon grows up.

Emmerdale star Dominic Brunt has vowed never to quit the soap.

The actor, who plays Paddy Kirk, is currently busy promoting his own zombie film Before Dawn but has no plans to concentrate permanently on other projects.

As well as directing Before Dawn, Brunt appears in the movie alongside his wife Joanne Mitchell.

However, asked by Daybreak whether he is moving on from Emmerdale, he replied: "No, God no! I love it so much. I feel very loyal towards Emmerdale.

"[Before Dawn] was a welcome distraction a couple of years ago and we loved doing it. I could work with my wife and we're very proud of it.

"But I'd never leave Emmerdale. Unless they kicked me out, but I think if I went out on the Friday, I'd come back and ask if I could be a cleaner on the Monday!"

Revealing the plot of his film, Brunt explained: "The zombies are there as an allegory, but it's basically about a couple that go away for a weekend to save their marriage, and then their phones stop working, the telly stops working and they can't find anything on the radio.

"Unbeknownst to them, they're in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, and then it's how they deal with what happens. One of them goes for a run, comes back and has been bitten, so it's how they deal with the consequences."

Before Dawn is released on DVD on Monday, February 25.

Former Emmerdale star Danny Miller has revealed that women distract him from focusing on his career.

The actor, who played Aaron Livesy on the soap, said that he plans on staying single for the next five years.

"Now I've left Emmerdale, I just want to focus on work," he told The Sun.

"I had a girlfriend for a while, but I am certainly not looking at going in that direction for a long time.

"I'm very happy being single and staying like that. Don't get me wrong, I'm the same as every man. I enjoy female company and I've got a lot of girl mates, but I'm happy doing what I'm doing and concentrating on my work."

Miller went on to admit that he doesn't think he is the right age to settle down.

"I'm trying to get myself on the career ladder and all women do is distract us from that! I'm 21 and there's plenty of time for girlfriends. I am just not ready to tie myself down with any kind of relationship yet," he said.

"I'd rather just have a bit of a laugh with my mates and assess it in four or five years' time."

Miller briefly dated his Emmerdale co-star Kirsty-Leigh Porter back in 2010. However, Porter reportedly left Miller after accusing him of approaching girls in nightclubs for sex.

Miller can currently be seen in ITV's Lightfields, in his first acting role since quitting the soap.

Emmerdale bosses have been struggling to resume filming after being hit by the heavy snowfall.

The freezing weather conditions have left the Emmerdale set in Esholt, Yorkshire looking like the middle of winter when it is meant to be May in soapland, due to filming six weeks in advance.

The Sun reports that the weather has also affected Coronation Street and EastEnders and it threatens to delay the filming of crucial outdoor scenes.

An ITV source said: "Emmerdale has been badly hit by snow and the cast are freezing. They are wearing big padded coats between takes.

"Some outdoor scenes will be cancelled if it doesn't clear up.

"Coronation Street has managed to avoid most of the snow but the cast are still having to cover up while filming summer scenes. Hand warmers and hot drinks are being passed around to keep everyone toasty."

EastEnders bosses were relieved to find that snow had melted before filming began yesterday. They were also looking after cast and crew with extra hot drinks and hot water bottles.

An Elstree source said: "It's incredibly cold for this time of year but we're soldiering on and hopefully we won't get delayed.

"Fingers crossed we have seen the last of the snow."

Merlin and One Foot in the Grave star Richard Wilson has revealed that he turned down roles in soaps due to the "horrendous" working conditions.

Wilson said he had been offered parts in a number of serials but did not want the tough workload.

"I did a small part in Emmerdale once because I was short of cash but soap stars have a fairly horrendous schedule," The Mirror quotes him as saying.

"My friend Ian McKellen has appeared in Coronation Street. But there is very little rehearsal and I wouldn't like that."

Wilson also said his chances of film stardom are over, and suggested it was because he was simply not "good enough".

He told the BBC: "My film career never took off. The only big film I did was Passage to India.

"The only reason I think is that I am not good enough, I can say with all humility - that is why I am not making film."

Wilson is currently directing the black comedy Smack Family Robinson at the Rose Theatre in Kingston, Surrey.

Gaynor Faye has praised the younger cast in the soap for their 'fantastic' acting.

The actress, who plays businesswoman Megan Macey, said that she thinks the children work brilliantly with their on-screen families.

"I think all the acting on Emmerdale is fantastic. Eden Taylor-Draper who plays Belle is brilliant, and Tendai - the young girl playing Gemma - is also very good," she said.

"The little kids are brilliant and I think they work really well with the families.

"I know Kelli Hollis and Alicya Eyo work a lot with Luke Roskell, who plays Sean, and he's very good too. Having done some scenes with him, he's quite menacing and sarcastic. And obviously Jamie Shelton who plays my son Robbie is very good at being bad!"

Faye admitted that when it comes to acting, she thinks it is important for the younger cast members to learn for themselves.

"Jamie is very sweet and when he first joined the show, he said that he was getting lots of tips from me, Jason Merrells and Sammy Winward. But unless somebody came to me, I would never tell them what to do.

Emmerdale star Natalie Anderson has revealed that she is glad she didn't get any further after she auditioned for Pop Idol in 2001.

Anderson, who plays Alicia Metcalfe in the soap, got down to the last 50 but missed out on making it into the final 10, during the series that saw Will Young crowned the winner.

Anderson said to The Mirror: "I wasn't confident enough. I was in the final 50 and got beaten to the final 10 by Will Young - which isn't bad going.

"I wasn't ready for it. He was much more grounded. I was still at drama school and the idea that I could be in the papers the next day was disturbing. I found it stressful."

Anderson will be taking part in ITV's new show Your Face Sounds Familiar, which launches this weekend.

The show is similar to Stars in Their Eyes and will see the celebrity contestants have to imitate famous singers.

Anderson said: "This show will be fun, although I do still suffer terribly from nerves.

"I have to zone into what I'm doing and take a bit of 'rescue remedy'. So the fact that there will be millions watching - my nerves do worry me.

"I'm thrilled Emmerdale have allowed me to do this - and it doesn't mean I'm looking for a change. I'm really happy where I am."

Emmerdale actress Gaynor Faye has been awarded an honorary degree from Leeds Metropolitan University.

The star, who also played Coronation Street's Judy Mallett from 1995 until 1999, was handed an honorary Doctorate of Arts in the city where she was born.

Emmerdale bosses have played down the show's 'ratings war' with EastEnders, insisting that their main focus is on quality rather than soap rivalry.

The ITV serial has pulled ahead of EastEnders on numerous occasions in the past few months, and high figures are expected once again next week as a major storyline sees killer Cameron Murray create a hostage situation at The Woolpack.

However, speaking at an Emmerdale press conference yesterday, the programme's chiefs insisted that they aren't gloating over their successes.

Series producer Kate Oates explained: "I think that we're really ambitious with our storytelling and trying to be quite finely tuned with our balance of stories as well, with light and shade. [We have] really heart-wrenching stories and then these moments of high drama.

"As long as we can continue to strike that balance and be ambitious, then hopefully people can enjoy us for us. Good, strong drama is all we work for.

"What makes me happy is when people say, 'Isn't the show brilliant at the moment?' EastEnders can do brilliantly and we can do brilliantly."

John Whiston, ITV's creative director for soaps, added: "[Next week's] episodes tell you so much about the relationship between Chas and Debbie, between Debbie and Cameron, and between Chas and Cameron. There's something brilliant about these episodes because they just encapsulate everything that's gone wrong in this weird triangle.

"What's fantastic about the show is that it follows the characters where the characters lead, and the writers feel that. They say, 'We've got to take this to its logical conclusion because we want to know what happens with those characters'.

"We don't really think, 'Oh great, we beat EastEnders again'. We just think the show has been true to itself and true to its characters."

Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle, also insisted that he doesn't pay attention to ratings.

He said: "I don't think we define ourselves by beating EastEnders. It sounds corny but it's true - we're such a family team, we're proud of what we do and we're on such a roll at the minute.

"I just think that we shouldn't be defined about whether we beat EastEnders or anything like that. It's got to a point now, with these episodes now, where it doesn't feel like soap anymore - it's just this relentless, gripping drama.

"Everybody at work in the green room is buzzing all the time at the moment. We're so excited, because we know what's coming as well. This isn't the end."

A new version of Emmerdale's Home Farm could be built as part of upcoming plans for an "exciting" storyline.

Although plans for the latest stunt are being kept under wraps for now, the ITV show's bosses have applied for planning permission for a 12-month temporary film set.

The new set, built at Stub House Farm in Harewood, would be a replica of the Home Farm building and would mean that the stunt could be carried out in a more controlled environment.

A spokesperson for Emmerdale said to the Yorkshire Evening Post: "Yes we are planning the build. It's only a façade, but we can't do the stunt we are planning at the original building."

A representative added to Digital Spy that the storyline will be "very exciting", but further details are being kept under wraps for now.

mmerdale bosses have cut an upcoming scene after an actress involved complained about its transphobic nature.

The scene - which would have aired in early 2014 - featured Laurel, Marlon, Rhona and Vanessa in a gay bar as they competed to get phone numbers from other women, The Sun reports.

The soap cast a transgender barmaid to play a small part in the scene.

After Laurel secures the phone number from the barmaid, her on-screen boyfriend Marlon Dingle replies to Laurel: "That's not fair, that's a he, not a she."

Actress Samantha Valentine - who played the barmaid - complained to ITV as she found the joke offensive.

Creative director John Whiston has since apologised, describing the scene as "plain wrong".

He said: "I wholly agree that including such unchallenged attitudes in Emmerdale is plain wrong. It is a huge disappointment to me and to the team that in this instance such unthinking and old-fashioned prejudice should have crept into the show in this way.

"Apparently it was added at a very late stage before filming when the show was in danger of under-running.

"It would no doubt have been picked up by myself, the producer or Compliance, when we viewed and approved the programme prior to transmission.

"But this would have been in early January, so it is really good you have brought it to our attention now and we've been able to take action at this earlier stage," he added.

Emmerdale will be sponsored by frozen food manufacturer McCain from next month, it has been announced.

ITV has signed an £8 million deal with the company which will see McCain's branding accompany Emmerdale's broadcasts for the next two years.

Product placement has also been included within the deal, which means that McCain products will be seen in the programme itself where relevant to the show's scenes, according to Campaign Live.

Emmerdale will centre upcoming episodes around the Tour De France bicycle race.

The annual sporting event is primarily held in France, but also occasionally makes passes through nearby countries and will begin in Yorkshire in July.

The storyline involving the race is as yet unknown, but the ITV soap is looking for cycling extras in or around Yorkshire to appear in the show.

Extras should be "an experienced and keen looking cyclist with a good road bike, usual Lycra and equipment", according to Bradford-based casting agency Agency Oakroyd.

Paula from the agency said: "Basically if you look like you wouldn't be out of place at the Tour de France, I could book you in for some days' filming at the Emmerdale village in Harewood."

Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) manages to secure the double Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist Victoria Pendleton for the launch, although her husband Jimmy (Nick Miles) goes into overdrive.

Pendleton said: "Appearing on a soap is something I never expected to have the opportunity to do. So when the chance came up I thought it would be really good fun and my mum is a massive Emmerdale fan so that made the decision very easy.

"Fortunately I'm playing myself, so it shouldn't be too difficult but it's still quite nerve-wracking. But the sun is out and I'm sure it will be fun and a great experience to do something different."

Kate Oates, series producer, added: "We are thrilled Victoria Pendleton is coming to Yorkshire to appear in an episode of Emmerdale.

"With the Tour de France coming to Yorkshire in July, the whole area is feeling the excitement of the event - and we felt it was only fitting Emmerdale was part of that.

"As well as a cycling theme to the re-opening of Home Farm, there will be mentions of the race and a few interesting cyclists passing through the village. Plus, Jimmy might get a bit excited at the thought of meeting a long-held crush..."

Emmerdale bosses have announced that they will be using special Tour de France-themed 'break bumpers' next month.

Show chiefs are paying tribute to the event as this year's race kicks off in Yorkshire on July 5.

One of eight Tour de France-themed break bumpers

'Break bumpers' are the brief shots showing the Emmerdale logo at the start and end of every advert break.

Emmerdale's technical co-ordinator Andrew Whiston came up with the idea of celebrating the Tour de France with special break bumpers. Eight have now been created and will air on Emmerdale from Tuesday, July 1.

Whiston commented: "I'm a keen cyclist so wanted our show to cover the Tour de France that is coming through Yorkshire. I realised it's harder to reflect this race in story, given it happens at a weekend and is a live event.

"So I thought about creating these special Tour de France break bumpers. The Grand Depart is the biggest thing to happen in Yorkshire for a long time and with Emmerdale at the heart of this county, it seemed obvious to many of us that we should feature this famous road bike race in some way."

Each five-second piece uses themes taken from the famous jersey colours and translates them into village scenes.

Whiston added: "Rather than just having somebody in a stripy top going down the road on a bike, the idea was to get the theme of the Tour de France into these - and different ways to get some colour in.

"With the Tour de France of course colour is very important, so one of our bumpers is a washing line with different items of clothing on which mirror the leaders jersey. So there is a yellow top, a polka dot skirt and a green pair of trousers, which is the colour for the highest points score. There is a white shirt at the end of the line which represents the fastest young rider jersey colour.

"All of these bumpers were shot at the Emmerdale village and they are all moving images. When you watch them back, it seems like a lot of effort for four seconds, but these bumpers are important. They are like having a full stop at the end of the programme, like a little breather in between the action and the adverts."

Former Emmerdale star Gemma Oaten has opened up about her anorexia battle in a heartfelt new blog.

The actress, who played Rachel Breckle in the ITV soap, wrote about her experiences in her first post as the official patron of SEED Eating Disorder Support Services (Support and Empathy for people with Eating Disorders).

The voluntary organisation was co-founded by her parents Dennis and Marg Oaten. In 2009, Marg was awarded an MBE for her work in setting up the group.

"Upon leaving Emmerdale, Eating Disorder Awareness Week was just around the corner and finally I felt I had the time and the incentive and the courage to speak out about my own personal battle with an Eating Disorder from the age of 10 years old," Oaten explained.

"My recovery began at around the age of 22 years old. By which time I'd lost half of my life to this awful mental illness. There's the truth. There's the cold hard light of day truth. I was alive but inside I was dead for all those years. To say I'm here writing this blog, as the patron of a charity born out of almost losing my life is nothing short of a miracle."

Offering words of support, the 30-year-old reassured readers that she will blog on a regular basis, adding: "I suppose what I want you to get from these blogs is comfort, hope and a smile...if you get all three then that really would make me happy indeed (and of course you too!)."

She explained: "Here's the thing you need to know. I aren't just some person off the telly who is preaching to raise a profile and to spout rubbish because one day, once upon a time, I skipped my lunch or made myself 'almost' sick. I am writing because I KNOW this stuff. I have BEEN THERE. I was that daughter. The girl of Marg and Dennis slowly wasting away.

"I know what it's like to be on bed rest, not allowed to see your family. I know what it's like to talk to a 'therapist' who has absolutely no clue what an eating disorder is. I know what it's like to cry yourself to sleep, never wanting to wake up. I know what it's like to be consumed 24/7 by counting calories, by trying to find a way to exercise, to thinking about the glass of water that just forced its way to my lips. I know what it's like to almost lose it all and die to this monster. I KNOW IT. I also know what it's like to look back."

Oaten further added that she wants the blogs to make sufferers feel that they are "not alone", before adding that her first idea for anyone reading was to begin reading.

"It may seem hard and time consuming, but you need a source, you need a clarity," she said. "You need pages in black and white, that can't be changed by your mind that is in the control of an Eating Disorder. I absolutely loved and still do love reading The Secret and Mindfulness (Finding Peace in a Frantic World).

"The reason being they opened my mind, they brought me comfort and they brought and harnessed positivity and an understanding of myself. They helped change my life."

Concluding, she wrote: "How amazing would it feel for just ten minutes a day not to be ruled and controlled by the ED? How amazing would it feel if one day you raised that to 20 minutes, to 1 hour, to 2 days, to ALL YOUR LIFE."

Emmerdale star Steve Halliwell is to release an autobiography next month as he celebrates his 20th anniversary on the soap.

The actor, who has played Zak Dingle since 1994, has penned the highs and lows of his career in the forthcoming memoir If the Cap Fits: My Rocky Road to Emmerdale.

Halliwell's autobiography has been described as "an honest tale of rejection and redemption" and is the story of his rise to fame, having previously spent time on the streets.

The actor's story is also said to trace a wider social, cultural and class history that permeated the country in the '60s and '70s.

Halliwell has made appearances in Coronation Street and All Creatures Great and Small, and was part of a celebrity band which had a number one hit single promoted by Simon Cowell.

His Emmerdale character Zak has been involved in some dramatic plots over the years, including attacking his son Cain and suffering a nervous breakdown.

If the Cap Fits: My Rocky Road to Emmerdale will be published next month.

Emmerdale's Michael Parr admits nerves over producer change: 'It's terrifying'

By Daniel Kilkelly and Tom Mansell
Tuesday, Oct 6 2015, 17:25 BST

He's one of the most popular stars in the soap world after two years playing Ross Barton, but Emmerdale's Michael Parr has admitted that he was still nervous when he heard about the show getting a new producer.

Current boss Kate Oates will be bowing out at the end of the year as she is crossing the Pennines to run Coronation Street, while Hollyoaks' series producer Iain MacLeod will be taking over at Emmerdale.

Watch our exclusive video to see Parr speak very honestly about the big soap shake-up in a chat with Digital Spy at the Inside Soap Awards 2015.

The actor shouldn't have too much to worry about after bagging himself four awards at last night's ceremony, including the coveted gong for Best Actor.

Parr seemed a little embarrassed when quizzed by us about his success, so the recognition definitely hasn't gone to his head!

"We've been trying to get pregnant for around two years but it just wasn't happening," Hooton explained, before Lucas added that they had just started going down the fertility route when, three months in, she fell pregnant "without any intervention".

The couple put the success down to a 'hysteropingogram', where dye is put through the fallopian tubes to check for any blockages.

Hooton explained: "The doctor said they get quite a high number of people falling pregnant just after that one very simple procedure, so it was what we went for first, and then a couple of weeks later we fell pregnant!"

Having got engaged in 2010, Lucas also joked that their daughter Lily will "probably end up getting married before us".

So really what do others think of Kate Oates as Emmerdale Series Producer for Emmerdale storylines during her reign since 2013?

Well, I think that we've had some really incredible, dreadful and bad storylines since 2013.

Maybe Kate Oates ruined some of our Emmerdale characters for a while or forever?

What does everyone think here?

Here is your chance maybe to tell Kate Oates what we all think of her time as "head honcho" for our lovely soap at Emmerdale!

My personal vote is "dreadful". Storylines going nowhere and shortened far too early. Itchy and Scratchy really. Everything next episode a blank slate. Just dreadful! Ross shown as a terrible scumbag with no come-uppance and leading others (like Aaron) into trouble.

I'm sorry, Kate, but you seem to be really dead on Emmerdale come New Year's Day, 2016. Bye!

Emmerdale Series Producer: Kate Oates (4 April 2013 – December 2015). RIP.

I think the change in producer will be refreshing and is needed, I feel she has done a few good story lines, particularly the Laurel storyline, the Alicia/Lachlan was good although I would of liked proper justice for her, Val's exit was good and bringing back Donna, Aaron & Robert. I guess the Cameron siege was a success and the Charity/Declan with the Rachel twist was another good one,

but I feel this year it's not been so good & in recent months there have been too much affairs the Zak & Lisa one I feel will prove to be a big mistake I think maybe she was trying to leave her mark on the Emmerdale landscape.

The things I feel unhappy with are there has been way too much crime, I've lost count of the number of murder attempts, robbery's and so on. Which usually they have on the Thursday double for the sake of dramatics to gain ratings, more thought out plots would be better than just drama for dramas sake.

I feel they've gone to far with Ross without either redeeming him or giving him any decent comeuppance I mean : Is he an out and out villain or are they trying to make him another Cain? Having him do these sick acts then giving him scenes with April or Moses to balance him out isn't working & I feel they need to decide what direction to go with him either way either make him a true villain or show him in a favourable light consistently without the psycho killer plots. I think it's a shame because I loved Ross in his first year but feel myself turning off of him with the Debbie affair, the number of crime acts & what he tried to do to Pete & then to shoot Robert on top of that was one step to far. I hope they calm down with him & bring it right next year.

Emmerdale have also pushed things with Jai so far I just want him to go away, he's not redeemable now he just a repulsive character.

The Robert/Aaron story line was so good but they have written so much bad feeling there & then after building it up suddenly shelved it for the last 6 months to make way for the summer stunt, more Ross overkill as so on given the popularity of 'Robron' it was madness the possible indications are they be bringing them together again, I hope so.

I'm intrigued by the return of Gordon & what the storyline is for Aaron.

Lets see what the new producer will bring for 2016.

You haven't mentioned Robert as unredeemable, which is funny because he has killed, shot people/held people hostage, had an affair created the fake raid on home farm and hired a hitman to kill Chas.

I'm not disputing that but Robert is a villainous character and has been for a good decade now going back to when Karl Davis took the role, he's practically a male version of Charity this type of character get their comeuppance more so than redemption you don't expect characters to change their personality but face the consequences of their collective actions Robert has had his by losing his chosen life at Harm Farm as well as being shot and having to rebuild themselves up again from nothing & Charity will have to do the same with her release from prison no ones saying he's a saint he's a love to hate type of character.

The Dingles at Christmas in Emmerdale

Emmerdale has arguably been the most consistent of all the soaps for a long time now, but 2015 felt like the year that fans from across the board really sat up and took notice.

Mixing the outlandish drama of the helicopter crash stunt with tragic human stories like Laurel's drinking and Ashley's dementia, Emmerdale offered something for everyone this year while never losing touch with its humour and strong focus on characterisation. EastEnders also deserves an honourable mention after giving the show a real run for its money in the vote, though!

Celebrating Emmerdale's Digital Spy wins, outgoing producer Kate Oates told us: "These three awards are the icing on the cake after an exciting year. I'm beyond delighted for Mike and all he's achieved, and so proud of the whole team who made Emmerdale special. Thank you!"

Voting figures:

Emmerdale (32%)
EastEnders (30%)
Hollyoaks (23%)
Coronation Street (10%)
Neighbours (3%)
Home and Away (2%)

Congratulations to Emmerdale's Charley Webb, who has welcomed her second child with partner and co-star Matthew Wolfenden.

The actress confirmed the news in a Twitter post, writing: "Happy new year everyone. Excited to head into 2016 as a family of 4."

The baby was born on December 19, although the newborn's gender has yet to be confirmed.

The pair are already proud parents to son Buster.

The actress spoke about taking maternity leave from the show earlier this year, saying that she wanted a "quiet exit".

Webb stars in Emmerdale as Debbie Dingle, while Wolfenden plays David Metcalfe.

Congratulations to them :)

Emmerdale star Chris Bisson has discussed the drama surrounding the birth of his baby girl last month, likening it to 'a scene from a film'.

The actor, who plays Jai Sharma in the ITV soap, became a father for the second time towards the end of 2015 when his partner Rowena Finn gave birth to a daughter.

However, the pair were left fearing that Ella Rose was going to be born in the car as they made a very dramatic dash to hospital.

Opening up about the birth to Hello! magazine, Bisson said: "Just like a scene from a film, there was this cinematic race to the hospital.

"She was born seven minutes later (after our arrival), after one puff of gas and air."

Bisson also said that having children has made certain Emmerdale storylines more 'challenging' to play, admitting that he has been filming some harrowing scenes recently.

Viewers know that Jai's ex-partner Megan is currently expecting his baby but he only became aware of this before Christmas, believing she'd had an abortion.

He said: "I enjoy playing a baddie but since becoming a father I find some baby-related storylines challenging.

"When Harry was born, the plot revolved around a baby in intensive care. I've been filming another harrowing story that hasn't been revealed yet. It makes me realise how lucky I am."

Ross Barton has always liked a challenge, and it seems Emmerdale star Michael Parr does too, as he is preparing to climb Mount Everest.

The actor revealed the news on ITV's Lorraine this morning (January 18) with his co-star Gemma Atkinson, who plays Carly Hope.

Speaking about his upcoming challenge, Parr said: "I am going to be climbing Mount Everest for the Steve Prescott foundation which is from my hometown.

"We are just going to be trying to raise as much money as possible by climbing one of the biggest mountains in the world.

"It's going to be hard work but luckily two of my best friends are doing it with me so they can drag me up!"

Parr also joked about his outfit ahead of the National Television Awards this week. He previously received flak after turning up to the Inside Soap Awards in rather casual attire.

When Lorraine Kelly asked him if he would be dressing up this time, he light-heartedly said: "I knew that was going to come up. How dare you!", before joking that he might wear a dress and heels.

We'll be keeping our eyes peeled...

It was a victorious night for Emmerdale at Wednesday's Broadcast Awards, as the ITV serial beat EastEnders and Coronation Street to win Best Soap.

Casualty, Holby City and Hollyoaks were also shortlisted for the prize, but it was Emmerdale's "top form" that took it home.

Judges deemed that the big stunt episodes, including the helicopter crash submitted for the awards, were not just ratings-grabbers but also "the culmination of careful plotting and character development".

One panellist said that Ross's fake farewell was "a smart way to keep things interesting and alive".

Another simply concluded: "It looks like the most professional of the soaps at the moment. It's doing everything it can to get it right."

Emmerdale reacted to the win with a sweet "Woohoo!" on Twitter.
