The BBC today announced that it has acquired soapboards.co.uk.

The purchase of soapboards.co.uk, is a key part of the BBC's strategy to provide a range of new initiatives in the rapidly developing area of online community sites. Following the acquisition, soapboards.co.uk will continue to operate independently to preserve its successful and passionate community.

Commenting on the purchase Aper Follis, entertainment director of the BBC said: "I'm delighted that we have been able to secure this deal. Soapboards.co.uk has become a revelation that is difficult not to admire. Soapboard's acknowledged strength in building a strong community complements the comprehensive soap and drama provided by the BBC. It also supplements the information and services we can deliver, in an exciting and revolutionary way.

The founder of soapboards.co.uk, an unassuming man who goes by the user name Rimmer, said: "soapboards.co.uk has some tremendously loyal users and a high reputation. During the past few years it has gone from strength to strength, and now it is time to expand and extend its coverage. I believe that by partnering with the BBC we can provide the very best experience. It's exciting to be taking soapboards.co.uk forward within a group that is prepared to take some pioneering steps."

Further details of the acquisition and future services are expected to be announced in the following months.

The BBC wouldn't have enough money to pay for the loyalty and friendship on this site :D

Good one - but we know that the BBC chucked us all out in the first place!

Yeah but then you would have had to leave out the "tremendously loyal users and a high reputation" part :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: (if you are a member of DS, I am joking)

 I love DS. The members there crack me up with their random and obscure posts. (I'm not a member and have no desire to join)

DS aka the Eastenders Appreciation Society.

I would have believed this if you had said BBC bought DS. Then again they probably already own it.

I think I'd have to organise an online protest if Rimmer ever sold or got rid of Soapboards. Not quite sure how it would work but I'd have a damn good try. Maybe I could find out the boss's address and make a stance outside his home along with some other members

You can buy a website but you can't buy friendship, a shoulder to cry on and a damn good old laugh online. We may only have a handful regular posters (compared to the number of registered users) but I regard each and every one of you as a real friend, not just a user name.

We need a SB national anthem and Abigail should be the first US female president what a speech.

Forget the jokes what you said came from the heart Abigail. Many times things happen in real life and I find myself thinking oh I have to tell SB. For me joining here was one of the best things that has happened to me and though I'm not a soapfan there are many members on here who I adore and admire. I might not agree with some comments but I still respect them just the same.

I agree with you completely

I think its amazing how we all have different opinions and yes some of us argue I think I can be gulity of that in certain threads about certain things yet at the end of the day we can all get on and have discussions just have general things.
I mean the HWYD thread just goes to show how supportive we are of one another

i agree with what people have said. its sometimes good to talk to people who you dont know personally but you know that they will listen and give advice. i often find it easier to rant or say problems on here cos everyone will be completely unbiased on the subject. and quite often i prefer reading the posts of members who dont agree with me cos it makes me think about other points which i might not even have considered. hopefully we will all continue to come on here for years to come :)
