It's been over a month since Nicollette Sheridan announced that she was quitting Desperate Housewives and hanging up Edie Britt's high heels on Wisteria Lane. After picking up our collective jaws from the floor at the prospect of a Sheridan-less show, DS banged its heads together to come up with four prospective Housewives, who could potentially replace the feisty blonde in the ABC drama.

Jennifer Aniston

She's just turned 40, she still can't find the right man and is never one to shy away from romantic comedies. Surely, Jennifer Aniston would be the perfect addition to Wisteria Lane. She may consider it a step down after a string of box office hits, but lest she forget, her marriage with Brad Pitt only floundered after she quit playing Rachel Green in Friends. The only problem? Her usual dippy-but-sweet typecast role is already being occupied by Teri Hatcher.

Victoria Beckham

How do you possibly replace a British-born, pouting maestro that can pull off the role of cold-hearted vixen with aplomb? You employ another one, that's how! Surely there's no one more suited to fitting Edie Britt's Jimmy Choos and skimpy lingerie than ice queen Posh. Her cold stares, short skirts and gravity-defying chest would cause quite a stir down the Lane. While her sparse acting CV (Spice World, Ugly Betty) may not be up to much, she could give Teri, Marcia and Eva more than a run for their money in the glamour stakes.

Paris Hilton

Edie's man-eating skills provided some of Housewives's best moments, so who better to step into her shoes than LA's most eligible socialite and biggest party animal. Her outrageously bad acting performances in The Hottie And The Nottie and Pledge This! may count against her, but Teri Hatcher was mostly doing straight-to-video trash at the tail-end of the '90s, so anything can happen. A sextape scandal on Wisteria Lane in series six? You heard it here first!

Joan Collins

Collins might be 75 and her days as a big TV draw on Dynasty may be a hazy memory, but the veteran glamourpuss would be a classy addition to the ABC series. She may have lowered her stock slightly by cameoing in Footballers' Wives in 2006, but with her own life experience of marrying five men at least method acting would not be necessary. The Love and Desire and Hate author also has a history with the show, having applied for the role of Susan Mayer's mother in 2005. Second time lucky?
