Paul Walker's Fast and the Furious character Brian O'Connor will reportedly be retired from the franchise, rather than being killed off in the next sequel.

Walker and his friend Roger Rodas died last year in Los Angeles in a car accident that occurred as their vehicle was travelling at speeds of over 100 miles per hour.

His death shut down production on Fast and Furious 7, although director James Wan has since clarified that the film will be completed.

Writer Chris Morgan is currently working on rewriting the script to incorporate footage that Walker shot before his death into a new storyline, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This new version of the script will apparently include a way to retire Brian O'Connor (Walker) without having to kill off the character.

Studio executives and producers are working with Morgan to develop an exit that will satisfy longtime fans of the Fast and the Furious franchise, highly-placed sources have said.

Universal Pictures confirmed in December that Fast & Furious 7's release date will be moved to April 10, 2015 to accommodate script changes.
