View Full Version : What is your favourite breakfast cereal
I have tried several Special K cereals lately and just love them. I also enjoy Readybrek on a cold winter morning. What is your favourite cereal?
I love Special K.. my fav is the chocolate and Strawberry one... and like you I like readybrek or weetabix on a cold morning
I don't like weetabix, I find it very salty. I only use very little salt when cooking pasta or rice or on a boiled egg, otherwise I am on a salt-free diet, therefore I can readily taste it in other food. I like the chocolate and strawberry Special K very much too :)
I don't take salt in anything... I like Weetabix with hot milk..it doesn't taste salty at all

Weetabix, porrige or corn flakes.
Weetabix with not too much milk, so that it's still a bit crunchy. Plenty of sugar.
Porridge in winter or when I'm ill. Goes down a treat with brown sugar.
Cornflakes and rice crispies with ice cold milk in summer.
I lso like the 'mixed' type of cereal. Special K red berries, honey Oats and More, occasionally bran.
So yeah, serial cereal eater. Love my cereal :D
(The only time I have sugar is on cereals so I'm allowed half a bag on my weetabix :p)

I don't relly have cereal much, but when I do, I usually have either..
Shredded wheat, Fruit and Fibre, Rice Crispies.. or I love getting variety packs.. cos I get bored of cereals easily and waste half the box... so better to get variety pack :D.

Bought a very large box of cornflakes as they have less sugar than Special K  No wonder I have not been successful in losing weight  Seriously though, it is reading this thread that reminded me of how much I used to enjoy cornflakes :)
I dont really eat breakfast or cereal for that matter but if I do then I like frosties or weetabix
I think cereal can be very dodgey what with the milk

I mean how milk can make it werid cos you dont want it too dry but cereal soaks up milk quick and then it is soggy
It takes time to master such things :p :D

Are you serious? I have been eating Special K for ages and not losing weight either... I am going back to weetabix, no salt, no sugar...

I can never work out the salt value, for the Special K it states that it is around 9% of your daily recommended intake. It seems that Weetabix are a lot lower in calories than the 'slimming' cereals. Readybrek has a lot less carbohydrates though
Carbohydrates are ok at breakfast cause they break down slowly during the morning which is probably why you feel fuller on weetabix than Special K.. I am switching back
But is there not a difference between slow and quick releasing carbs (something like this), porridge is good as it releases the carbs slowly so you feel full for longer than other carbs where you are hungry again in a couple of hours? I find this all so confusing. :(

yes.. slow releasing carbs are best like in brown rice and pasta... that is, as you say, why Porridge and weetabix keep you full for longer

i think fast releasing carbs are things that have a lot of sugar in as sugar is classed as a carb but although it will give you a quick energy boost it wont last whereas starchy carbs like siobhan said will last longer, if that makes sense, i think thats right anyway!
Thanks, DM, I think you are right, that is what I meant but did not realise about the sugar content. :o
