View Full Version : Ryan and Sian
Over on Coronation Street, Ryan (Ben Thompson) gets his fist hint of a romance in mid-March when newcomer Sian (Sacha Parkinson) - Sophie's (Brooke Vincent) best mate from school - finally decides to make a move. The pair kiss at the band night at the Christian centre.
As an aside, does anybody else find it remarkable that seemingly all the teens in Weatherfield have suddenly turned to God and are attending a religious youth centre? Apart from Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan), that is...

NEW arrival Sian Powers snogs Ryan Connor after his Christian centre concert.
The lad and his band make sure their performance is a monster hit with the girls.
Our Street source said: “Sian loves the band and is totally smitten with Ryan but her constant talk about him gets her mate Sophie Webster a bit cheesed-off.
“Sophie decides to leave them to it and Sian is forced to make her move.
“So she tells Ryan his band are brilliant.”
One thing leads to another and the youngsters share a passionate snog – as our picture shows.
Sacha Parkinson, who plays Sian, told us she was terrified of kissing Ben Thompson, who plays Ryan.
“I was so scared before doing our kiss. It is scary enough just being in Corrie but I was extra nervous kissing in front of the cameras,” she said.
“Luckily for me I have done a screen kiss before on another programme but this was Ben’s first one so he was nervous.
“We both put some chewing gum in before to make sure we didn’t have bad breath and went for it.
“I’m not going to rate him out of ten but he was a very good kisser.”
You can catch their clinch on Wednesday March 18.
Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has said she would like Ben Thompson to return to the soap.
Speaking to Digital Spy, the actress backed the reappearance of her character Michelle Connor's son Ryan in Weatherfield.
"People have been asking me whether Ryan is coming back, because that's been one of the rumours recently," she told DS.
"I really have no idea at this stage, but I'd love Ryan to come back. I think it'd be great to bring back that dynamic and maybe see how he's changed."
Last month, it was reported that Ryan Connor could re-emerge with a cocaine habit, becoming a "bad influence" on Sophie Wester (Brooke Vincent).
Thompson, who starred on the show between 2006 and 2010, was phased out by current producer Phil Collinson in 2010.
Elsewhere in the interview, Marsh suggested Coronation Street execs are still yet to decide whether off-screen husband Jamie Lomas has won the part of Carla's long-lost brother.
"All I can say is that Jamie was one of several people that Coronation Street wanted to look at for the part," the 35-year-old stated.
"Jamie is very busy with other things at the moment, so whether it would be right for him and right for them is still not clear, so we'll see."
Give us a break Miss Marsh of course Jamie Lomas has got the part, can't have you upset. If he hasn't I promise not to use bad language on Soap Boards for a while.
Coronation Street bosses have today (May 17) released new pictures promoting the return of Ryan Connor and the arrival of Carla Connor's brother Rob Donovan.
As announced earlier this month, actor Marc Baylis has been cast as Rob, who turns up in Weatherfield following a stint in jail and turns to Carla for help in starting a new life.
Meanwhile, the role of Michelle's son Ryan has been recast after original actor Ben Thompson decided that he did not want to return to the cobbles.
Ryan will now be played by Sol Heras and arrives back on the street after being thrown out of university in Glasgow.

The two bad boys have been tipped to shake up life in Weatherfield this summer, and will even square up against each other when Rob decides to "teach Ryan a thing or two about family loyalty".
Coronation Street's producer Phil Collinson commented: "Carla's brother Rob is the latest in a long line of handsome Corrie charmers and is sure to set hearts fluttering in Weatherfield from the minute he arrives. The audience can expect thrills and a few broken hearts when this handsome bad boy hits town.
"Ryan returns carrying a dark secret and Michelle is going to have the fight of her life as she battles to get her troubled son back on the straight and narrow. Sol is a brilliant young actor and I'm so excited to welcome him to the cast."

And the actress, may have been thankful for the warming drink as she had rather a lot of flesh on show in a plunging dress.
Her character Eva seems to be doing a good job of getting over ex Nick Tilsley by enjoying a romantic meal with new heartthrob Ryan, played by Sol Heras.
Ryan, previously played by Ben Thompson, was last seen leaving heartbroken after his girlfriend Sian dumped him for lesbian lover Sophie Webster.
But in a shock new storyline he returns to the Street because he has been kicked out of university — and has become a drug addict.

His on-screen mum Kym Marsh says viewers can expect to see dramatic scenes once Ryan’s dark secret is revealed.
She said: “Ryan’s been off doing his own thing, and has got heavily involved in drugs.
“Michelle expected him to come back as the same kid he was before he went away, but that’s not going to happen.”

In fact, Ryan will even drag bible-bashing Sophie Webster into his druggie world.
But he is not the only Connor man who will be shaking up the cobbles this July — with Marc Baylis also making his debut as Carla’s jailbird brother Rob Donovan.
The handsome hardman turns up at his sister’s hoping for help starting a new life — but is set to break a few hearts while he is in Weatherfield.
Meanwhile, Kym Marsh has hinted that Michelle is set to return to old flame Steve McDonald.

When asked if Michelle had a new man in her sights, Kym replied: “New man? It’s actually more of an old man.
“Could she be getting closer to a certain Mr McDonald again? Maybe!
“I think the viewers are expecting Michelle to get it on with Rob because he’s the new guy.
“The last person they’re expecting her to pair up with is Steve ...
“Steve has always been very much part of Ryan’s life from when he was with Michelle before, and we’ll see him being a massive support for her.”

But in a shock new storyline he returns to the Street because he has been kicked out of university — and has become a drug addict.
This isn't a very good ad for Glasgow Uni!
It wasn't the universitys fault he became a drug addict,it would have been worse if they hadn't kicked him out.
Coronation Street welcomes Ryan Connor back to the cobbles next week with new actor Sol Heras playing the part.
Ryan returns to Weatherfield after being kicked out of university, though he initially claims that he's merely home for the summer.
As Ryan settles back in, it soon becomes clear that he has fallen in with the wrong crowd during his time away - as he is sporting a new bad boy attitude and hiding a worrying drug habit…
We recently caught up with Sol to hear all the gossip on Ryan's return.
How are you finding your time at Coronation Street so far?
"It's been fantastic so far. I have to pinch myself every day, because I'm working on a show that I've watched all my life, so it really is the opportunity of a lifetime. I'm learning so much, because the filming process is so quick and there's so much to do all the time, so I think I'm benefiting as an actor from working with the established cast who do the job perfectly."
What was the audition process like?
"I thought initially that it would be quite a long, drawn-out process, but it all happened quite quickly! I had my first audition with the casting department, and then I heard later that I'd made it onto the longlist of actors that they were considering. After that, I made it onto the shortlist, which to me was an achievement in itself.
"I then had a screen test with Kym Marsh and Brooke Vincent. Six days later, my agent phoned me to tell me that I'd got the part - so that was one of the best phone calls I've ever had!"
Who was the first person you told the news to?
"The first person I told was my mum. She's a huge Corrie fan, so she was just as excited as me about it!"
Who have you made friends with on set?
"I've been really fortunate to spend time with quite a few of the cast, because my character is all over the place and causing havoc everywhere!
"I've spent a lot of time with Kym Marsh and we get on really, really well - I couldn't ask for anyone better to do a lot of scenes with. I've also been fortunate to have Marc Baylis - who plays Rob - join at the same time as me, so we're both in the same boat. We share a dressing room as well, which is helpful."
How do you feel about playing a character that has been recast?
"I think it's always different when you come into a role that's been played by someone else, because it's maybe on your mind that the audience are going to compare you to him. But I'm also really fortunate because Ryan has been away at university and he's come back as a completely different person mentally.
"Ryan is not the way he was before and he's picked up bad habits, so that's enabled me to come in and essentially be a fresh character. He's changed so much that I didn't have to stick to how the previous actor had played him, which really helps when you're coming into a new show."
What has Ryan been up to since we last saw him?
"Ryan went to university initially to find his feet, because he didn't know what he wanted to do with his life. While he was there, he mixed with the wrong people and picked up some bad habits, as some people occasionally do at university. He's got himself involved in drugs now and he's become quite an arrogant person."
Why does Ryan try to kiss Sophie?
"I think that just sums his character up! He's come back and he's fully aware that Sophie is a lesbian, but he doesn't see that as an issue. He thinks, 'I'm a Jack the lad, all the women will love me and it'll be fine'. He gets turned down by Sophie, but that doesn't affect him and he just laughs it off."
Ryan is also at the centre of a fire drama during his first episode back, isn't he?
"He is - he has a cigarette at Number 13, decides to flick the match out anywhere and it just happens to land in a big bag of rubbish which sets on fire and nearly burns the house down. It was an intense scene to film, as it was a real fire and the full crew were there to control it. But again, it doesn't really affect Ryan and he doesn't seem bothered about it all!"
Were you pleased to get such a dramatic entrance?
"I can honestly say that I couldn't have wished for a better way to come in. In my first two weeks of filming, I was in a complete headspin all the time. I was in the majority of scenes and it was great for me to learn the ropes that way rather than picking it up gradually. I had to learn it immediately, and looking back now, that was the best way to come in, I think."
How does Michelle feel about Ryan's return?
"Before he went to university, Ryan was so close with Michelle. They were like best friends and spent a lot of time together. I think she's missed him not being there, so she's so happy to have him back and wants to rebuild the relationship they had before."
What kind of a relationship can we expect between Ryan and Rob?
"To begin with, there's a lot of tension. Rob's the one guy who sees through Ryan - he thinks that Ryan is pulling the wool over everyone's eyes. Rob makes a point of letting Ryan know that he knows what's going on, but Ryan is so arrogant now that it doesn't really bother him.
"Ryan is more than happy to stand up against Rob, even though Rob is older than him. There's literally nothing that's going to stand in Ryan's way at the moment - he just does what he wants, when he wants!"
How does Ryan feel when Steve tries to give him advice?
"I personally really like the relationship that Ryan and Steve are striking up. He's a bit more open and truthful with Steve. Steve talks to Ryan not just as a guardian but as a friend, trying to find out what's going on in his head. Ryan gradually opens up to this and is willing to talk to him. You'll then see that behind the façade of being a badass, there's still a heart to Ryan."
When it comes to the drugs issue, how do you feel about tackling such a hard-hitting storyline?
"It's a very serious storyline but in the real world it does happen. As long as it's done professionally and done well, it's great. I think it'll be good for young people to see the consequences that come from drugs. You'll see that the drugs are the reason that Ryan is falling out with everyone and causing trouble. There's a loneliness to Ryan because no-one really trusts him. It just shows that it's a bad way to go."
Will Ryan be a bad influence on Sophie? Or will she be a good influence on him?
"I think Ryan is trying to be a bad influence on Sophie, but she's quite strong as she's reluctant to listen to him or follow what he says. It's nice for Ryan to have someone his own age to hang around with who is sensible, so I think she will be a great influence on Ryan."
Who were you most star-struck to see on set?
"I was star-struck just in the screen test when I was working with Kym Marsh and Brooke Vincent. Then when I started work and saw Bill Roache, that was my biggest moment. I didn't know whether to say hello to him or not, but he's such a great guy. He knew who I was already and was really nice to me."
How is Coronation Street comparing to your previous work?
"I've never really had a busy soap schedule before. I did Hollyoaks Later, but that was five one-off episodes and they had a lot more time to spend on each individual scene. Coming into this, I expected it to be the same, but it's so much quicker. You have to be on your game all the time, but I'm really enjoying it!"
Coronation Street star Brooke Vincent has said that she does not want her character Sophie Webster to turn straight.
The actress stated that there are no plans for Sophie's budding friendship with Ryan Connor (Sol Heras) to become a romance, as coming out as gay has "made so much of an impact" on the character.
"I don't want to be straight," Vincent told The Sun. "I don't think the producers want her to be straight either.
"Being a lesbian has made so much of an impact on her, and it's not a phase for most people.
"So it's all right saying, 'Oh well, it's all right for storylines', but they can't exactly make her not gay again - that doesn't work."
Previous reports that Sophie will reconsider her sexuality were denied by the Coronation Street team back in March.
A rumoured plotline in which Sophie becomes addicted to drugs as a result of her relationship with Ryan has recently been confirmed by Corrie star Kym Marsh.
Coronation Street newcomer Sol Heras has spoken of his apprehension over watching his first episode.
The Cheshire actor makes a dramatic on-screen Weatherfield debut as Ryan Connor on Wednesday, replacing Ben Thompson in the role.
Interviewed on today's Daybreak, Heras conceded: "I'm still nervous about the whole thing, I guess. It's such a big show, there's such a responsibility with being an actor on it to do a good job.
"So it's exciting times, but at the same time, it's nerves. I have sweaty palms when I'm watching it."
The fledgling actor, who has previously appeared in Hollyoaks Later, also admitted that he has been overwhelmed by his experience on set so far.
"Every single day, when I've finished a scene and I walk back to the green room where everyone congregates, I have to pinch myself that I'm walking past the Rovers, on the cobbles, and the pigeons are flying past," he added.
"Every single day, it's amazing that is my job now to be there."
Speaking to Digital Spy recently, the Corrie star revealed that he was most 'star-struck' by legend Bill Roache, who has played Ken Barlow since the show's first ever episode in 1960.

Coronation Street newcomer Sol Heras has promised his character Ryan Connor will 'ruffle a hell of a lot of feathers'.
Ryan - who was previously played by Ben Thompson - has returned from university and is set to create problems for mum Michelle (Kym Marsh).
Sol told the Coronation Street website: "He's come back as a totally different guy in every way... He really causes trouble with everyone. He's going to ruffle a hell of a lot of feathers, he's just a naughty boy."
And the hunk - who has also appeared on Hollyoaks Later - said Weatherfield's Sophie Webster was the ladies' man's first target.
"He tries it on with Sophie, who's obviously a lesbian now, and he thinks he's come back as a Jack the lad with all these habits he's picked up and tries to convert her back, however Sophie has none of it - not that it bothers Ryan anyway," revealed Sol.
And Sol reckons his character won't be behaving himself any time soon.
"There's going to be a few women yet that he's going to try his way with, I think it's going to be a while until the guy settles down and acts the way he should do. You can expect a lot more trouble to come from Ryan," he explained.
Kym Marsh has said that her Coronation Street alter ego Michelle Connor "wants to kill" her son Ryan when she discovers him with cocaine.
The actress, who will marry Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas in September, said that Michelle will take a "no-nonsense" approach to the drug use.
Marsh told Inside Soap magazine: "She wants to kill him! She's so angry and ashamed, especially as he seems more concerned about the drugs than the fact he's been caught taking them.
"He drops them on the floor and scurries to pick them up. It all gets too much for Michelle. She feels like an idiot and begins to see Ryan as a stranger."
Marsh confirmed that Michelle goes as far as to report his drug use to police, with the 36-year-old arguing that "she's in a state of panic and doesn't know what else to do".
She added: "Michelle takes no nonsense and wants to show people she isn't shying away from her problems. She's tackling them head on.
"Her biggest fear is that Ryan's putting himself in danger, risking everything - including his life."

Coronation Street tearaway Ryan Connor will date Tracy Barlow in the coming weeks, it has been reported.
Michelle Connor's rebellious son - who recently returned to the cobbles played by Sol Heras - will apparently cause a stir when he and Tracy (Kate Ford) are seen together.
Deceitful Ryan will take Michelle's housekeeping money to buy Tracy a romantic gift, leaving his mother (Kym Marsh) fuming, according to the Daily Star.
"Michelle is not prepared to sit back and let Tracy get her claws into her son," a Corrie insider said.
Weatherfield newcomer Heras had previously confirmed that Ryan would begin a romance with an older woman on the Street.
"Ryan's new love interest is a cougar! It'll come as quite a shock, but I can't tell you who it is," he said at the time.
Heras, 25, had hoped for his alter ego to date Stella Price, commenting: "Michelle Collins is a lovely woman".
Since returning to Manchester from university last month, Ryan has already recklessly set fire to Steve McDonald's flat, threatened to sue Underworld, and snorted cocaine in a Rovers Return toilet cubicle.

The guy who plays Ryan is really too old. I was watching Corrie the other night when Mr LV came in (he doesn't watch Corrie) and was totally confused when he heard Ryan call Michelle 'mum'. Ryan is supposed to be about 19, isn't he? Since he was only at uni for a year. He looks more like the actor's real age, 25.

Coronation Street newcomer Sol Heras has admitted that he wants to be involved in more fight scenes on the cobbles.
The actor, who has taken over the role of Ryan Connor, revealed that he would like his character to keep clashing with David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) in the months ahead.
David has already had one furious showdown with Ryan after the Weatherfield returnee offered cocaine to his wife Kylie.
Heras told Inside Soap: "I think it would be good to do a few more scenes with David Platt. He and Ryan are both quite fiery characters, and I think we could do some great fight sequences!
"There's lots of potential with that situation."
Expressing an additional desire for more scenes with Paula Lane, who plays Kylie, he added: "They're quite a combination - they cause a lot of trouble."
Tabloid reports today (August 8) have tipped Ryan for a romance with Tracy Barlow, but Heras joked that he would like a much older on-screen love interest.
He laughed: "I'd have to go for one of the old-school Corrie legends, so Rita or Emily would be my first choice. Emily's toy-boy lover sounds good! I think it would work really well, and the audience would love it."
Coronation Street continues tomorrow (August 9) at 8.30pm on ITV1.

Coronation Street newcomer Sol Heras has admitted that he is expecting things to get "much worse" for his character Ryan Connor in the coming weeks.
Ryan returned to the cobbles with a drug habit last month, and he continues to deceive adoptive mum Michelle (Kym Marsh) in upcoming episodes by returning to his worrying ways.
When Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) cancels plans to take Ryan to a gig later this month, the former student immediately spots an opportunity to raise the cash for more drugs.
Heras told Soaplife: "I don't think he's dependent on the drugs. Ryan taking drugs is more of a cover-up for his insecurities. The drugs give him confidence. He doesn't think he's an addict, but he's got himself a bad habit.
"Steve's planning to take Ryan to the gig, but when he backs out, Ryan sells the tickets to Sophie to get money to spend on drugs. Then he goes on a bender somewhere, partying all night."
Asked where the story could be heading next, the actor replied: "Things could get much worse for Ryan. Who knows what he'll involve himself in next? I think it will take something big to make it really hit home with Ryan that things have got to change."
Heras added that Ryan would never want to harm Michelle with his bad behaviour.
He said: "Ryan's obviously upsetting his mum, but he loves her to bits. They were best friends before he went away to university, and that's still there - but he's got caught up in a different lifestyle and his head's all over the place. He's not himself at the moment, but I don't think he could harm her."
Ben Thompson previously played the role of Ryan between 2006 and 2010.

Coronation Street's Kym Lomas has revealed details of on-screen son Ryan Connor's latest meltdown.
After being publicly humiliated by Tracy Barlow in the Rovers, Ryan goes on a drink and drugs bender next Wednesday (October 24), playing chicken in dual carriageway traffic, which leads to best friend Sophie being knocked down and seriously hurt.
Speaking to Soaplife, Lomas teased the aftermath of Sophie's accident, divulging that Sophie's dad Kevin will punch her son at the flat she shares with Steve.
"Just as Ryan is about to tearfully explain what happened to Sophie, Kevin arrives and informs a stunned Michelle that Ryan ran off leaving Sophie on her own," Lomas said.
"Kevin can't contain his fury and hits Ryan. Steve has to drag Kevin off him."
The 36-year-old also suggested that there may still be a future for her alter ego Michelle Connor and Steve McDonald, who decides to end their relationship in a failed scheme to persuade Tracy to leave Ryan.
"He begs her to take him back but at first she really doesn't want anything to do with him. Michelle is not the most forgiving person so he has a lot of work to do to make amends," Lomas added. "It's grovelling time for Steve again!"
