FURIOUS BBC bosses carpeted newsreader James Dagwell after he made a smutty joke on live TV about a pet cat.
Rising star James, 34, raised hackles during the morning papers review.
He spotted a Sun story about a long-haired Persian called Chloe — dubbed Soggy Moggy by us because she enjoyed taking a shower.
Quick as a flash, James said: “We always like a wet pussy here on BBC News.”
Moments after finishing his early-morning stint last Friday he was hauled before producers.
A BBC News source revealed: “The top brass got involved and to say they were livid is an understatement. Let’s just say that he won’t be doing anything like that again.”
James was not suspended over the gaffe, which sparked three complaints.
A BBC spokesman said: “He apologises wholeheartedly for any offence caused.”
His blunder follows a string of BBC scandals.
Carol Thatcher, 55, was last week sacked from The One Show for calling a black tennis player a golliwog, and Jonathan Ross, 48, only recently returned to work following Sachsgate.
