Shrove Tuesday is celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday and is therefore the final day before the commencement of Lent, a Christian festival leading up to Easter Sunday (Easter Day). Lent is a time of abstinence, of giving things up. So Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to indulge yourself, and to use up the foods that aren't allowed in Lent. Pancakes are eaten on this day because they contain fat, butter and eggs which were forbidden during Lent.

In 2009 Pancake Day will be on 24 February.

Any of you going to eat pancakes on Shrove Tuesday?

I'm being a cheat this year, was in Asda the other day and I seen this bottle of ready pancake mix for £1 all you do is add milk. So I bought two bottles. Going to make some pancakes at the weekend to see what they are like.

my mum normally makes the pancake mix herself but last year i bought ready made pancake mix, although this year i might try making it myself cos there was way too much of it last year and i was having pancakes for 3 days in a row to use it all up lol!
