First of all, how does it feel to be the big boss at HOLLYOAKS now?
After seven years of working on the show and doing a lot of jobs around the company, it is pretty exciting to be able to make decisions and change stuff. It's also a little scary, before hand I'd have thought 'well I'd have done it like that', and now I have to prove how I would do it. But it's an amazing opportunity and I'm really excited to be here.
Bryan Kirkwood's stint as producer of HOLLYOAKS saw the show win more prestigious awards than it ever has before. Do you feel nervous about stepping into his shoes?
I think anyone would feel nervous about stepping into the shoes of someone who has completely transformed the show in the past three years. I would say that what Bryan has done is leave us with a fantastic show and I hope we can take that, and build on it. As foundations go you couldn't ask for better.
What can you tell us about your plans for HOLLYOAKS in 2009?
I can't tell you too much about 2009 because obviously we want you to watch the show! What I will say is, there are some big explosive storylines coming up, some great characters will exit the show, we have the arrival of some new characters that I'm sure the viewers will love, and a lot planned for the characters that you know really well.
You've just mentioned there are a lot of new characters joining the show. Can you tell us anything about what you have planned for them?
Again you'll have to watch to see exactly what the plans are. I will say that Loretta and Dom's relationship is set to get more exciting and Cheryl will arrive and be her usual boisterous bundle of fun. There is another character Hayley, Zak's sister, who will be hitting your screens this week, and she's another one who will be stirring things up and getting some people thinking.
Are there going to be any more Hollyoaks Later episodes in 2009? I think it would be absolutely fantastic to do some but we'll have to wait and see.
Can you reveal anything about what's in store for the Ashworth family this year? As far as the Ashworths are concerned, they are obviously running The Dog now, Rhys is going to get a new love interest and there are going to be some unexpected stories come out of that and a very unexpected love story too. Josh has taken on Amy, Leah and the unborn bump but...as ever the road of love will not run smoothly. Hannah may just find the love of her life, but who knows where that will end?
2008 was a bad year for the McQueens, what with the revelation about Niall, and Tina's death. Will 2009 be a better year for them?
It's Hollyoaks so there will be ups and downs for everyone and the McQueens will certainly be in the mix! All I will say is we've got some fun stuff coming up with the McQueens and their reaction to their financial woes is certainly a unique one.
Moving forward, there will obviously be the stuff with Malachy and Mercedes in the HIV story. However the McQueens always face the drama with a wry smile so expect plenty of laughs from the clan.
Is there a future for Jack and Frankie when Jack is finally released from prison?
The Osbornes have gone through some pretty bad times haven't they? The thing with their family is that no matter what you seem to throw at them they pick themselves back up and move on. Whether they'll be able to move forward as a whole unit remains to seen. There will be a lot of big issues for father and son to deal with.
Can you give us any clues as to the outcome of the Kris/Ravi/Nancy love triangle?
I think that's a case of 'you play with fire, you get burnt' probably. I'm not going to tell you how it ends but I think it's safe to say they all get what they deserve.
Is Warren going to get his come-uppance for his crimes?
There is a massive storyline coming up involving Warren that will culminate around the end of May/start of June and I think it's fair to say that Warren will see some just desserts!
There has been some talk on the forums about this year seeing the return of some old cast members. Can you shed any light on this?
All I'll say is, we've had some fantastic characters on the show and it think it would be a shame if we never saw any of them again. That said, we are absolutely committed to the current fantastic characters we have and I'm excited about some new arrivals as well.
Nancy and Russ have been close friends for a while now, we are wondering if they'll finally get together. What can you tell us about this?
Russ and Nancy would make a cute couple wouldn't they? I think we'll wait and see, there is a great chemistry between the two, they give us fantastic scenes and we certainly enjoy writing for them and seeing them.
Can you give us any teasers about what, or who we should be watching out for this year?
I think what will be interesting and will be a fantastic storyline for this year, is the Amy/Ste/Josh storyline of which guy will she end up with? What will happen with the baby? What I can say is that there is going to be a very unexpected twist in the storyline with the baby, which leaves both boys reeling, and mum struggling to comprehend what has happened.
