Buffalo (http://www.ebuyer.com/search?q=buffalo+external+harddrive&x=0&y=0) are a very good brand.

i recommend Western Digital, most of them are plug and play USB ones that don't need mains power. ideal.

If you have a really old computer lying around you can get the hard drive taken out of that. We had a windows 95 and the hard drive from that does us fine :)

Ok so my dad as bought me one, its WD and 1tb which is good but I feel really bad cos I hate the look of it, ok well that doesnt matter really but you have to plug it in, AC adapter as well as plug it into the USB.
I have till tomorrow to make up my mind on whether I want to keep it

!TB, just keep it, it doesn't matter what it looks like it's wether it does the job, and a 1 TB will more than do the job you want it to

Keep it. What odds what it looks like. Its a great make with fantastic storage.

You can always take a hard drive out of an old computer or laptop and by a nice shiny case for about a fiver and have it as a second drive before copying all on to the 1tb hard drive

I recently bought an external hard drive from Currys Digital. The make is iomega, it is 320GB, USB lead, and cost about £50. It is very small and easy to use. I've had it for 2 weeks and no problems, touch wood. :D I just measured it, it is 8.5cm x 13.5cm. But you need at least 3 USB ports on your computer, cos the lead is a double USB, and then you'll need one for your mouse, unless you want to use your touchpad.

You want one of these: http://www.ebuyer.com/search?page=1&store=2&cat=4&subcat=1813&mfr=15

No need for an adaptor and they are small as well.
