Shane Richie has revealed that he would return to Albert Square if the storyline were right.

The actor, who has joined the cast of the rejuvenated Minder, said he has not ruled out reprising the role of Alfie Moon on EastEnders.

According to reports, he said: "I loved it, I had a great time in the three years I was there to the point that I didn't really want to go, but things change.

"They've left it open, and maybe one day a producer may come along and say, 'I tell you what, we've got a great storyline'. If I'm available and if the story's worth doing, I'd come back."

Speaking of his role in Minder, Richie said the most important thing was getting the relationship right with his co-stars.

"Once you get that right it's like Kat and Alfie, Del Boy and Rodney, Thelma and Louise... If you get the relationship right you can take people anywhere on a journey because they'll buy into it," he said.

Not without Kat I hope

I would love to see him come back, i loved his character, but i hope that if they do ask him back they will get Jessie Wallace back aswell, otherwise leave him where he is because as they left it the pair of them were happy when they left, that is how it should stay

Think if he came back, he should come back with Kat. Also, if he wasn't going to be back for long, then I think it pointless.

No way once they're gone that's it regardless if they decide to leave or if they are sacked. If a character is written out because the writer's feel they have taken the character as far as they can go, that pig's poo how can they write plots for Ian Beale after all this time. It's just a feeble excuse to get rid of unwanted baggage. Shane like many who have appeared in EE and other soaps are brought in for one reason to boost viewing figures on a shot-term basis then they get binned. Shane is just trying to jump on the bandwagon like all the other ex EE cast who have failed to get a decent acting role since leaving the square if Minder goes belly up he's had it.

When Alfie Moon :moonie: first appeared on the set of EE it was like a breath of fresh air. I really had high hopes for him. He brought much needed humour the the greyness and depression that id Eastender. Unfortunately the script writers and producers had other ideas and turned him into a pale imitation of the cheeky cockney. All this was done IMHO to pacify the Poison Dwarf who regards herself as the Queen of the Square and the Mitchell clan as the only people worthy of a storyline.

Its too late now to bring Alfie Moon back to Mitchellenders.

Stay away Shane think of your career

ACTOR Shane Richie wants to return to EastEnders — with his son playing his character Alfie Moon’s mystery lovechild.

Shane, 44, is keen to return role as the loveable landlord with a role for actor son Jake, 16.

They have even come up with a plot. Shane told Heat Radio: “This young boy gets off the train at Walford and makes his way round.

“He gets to the Queen Vic, sees Peggy Mitchell and says: ‘Excuse me I’m looking for my dad.’”

NO! NO! NO! Shane like many other EE cast members left the show because they wanted to try other roles. They thought that starring roles would be flooding through their letterboxes. Now they know realise that it's not happened they want to return to EE, not because they think it would be great to bring back old faces, it's because they need the money. If I was in charge of EE I would make all ex members hinting that they would like to return sign a contract declaring that they admit they are skint, they know they were mad to leave in the first place, and that they are rubbish at acting.

I've got an idea, Dress him up as Grant to make an apperance at Peggy and Archie's wedding. That way the poison dwarf can stop mupping her gums about wanting Grant to return. shane get's a job back on the square for half the money they would have paid Ross Kemp. Everyone happy.

Don't Forget the Lyrics must not pay very well. Especially if he wants to put his teenage son to work too.

Is minder going to get the boot after one series then, because if he is tring to get back to EE he must think he is going to be out of a job soon.

You might be right there.

The third episode of Minder pulled in almost 1m fewer viewers than the first, overnight ratings figures suggest.

The remake of the iconic '80s show, which stars Shane Richie, made a modest start a fortnight ago with 2.4m (9.6%), but last night the audience fell to 1.54m (6.5%).

It was beaten by BBC Two's The Rise Of The Superchef, a show investigating the success of Britain's top chefs, which pulled in 1.86m (7.9%) for the 9pm hour.

Channel 4's Grand Designs came first during the hour, attracting 4.16m (17.6%), while Nature's Great Events put in 3.73m (15.8%) for BBC One.

The Live FA Cup coverage on ITV1 had a poor primetime performance, pulling in an average of 3.24m (13.7%) between 8pm and 10pm.

The BBC came top during the 8pm hour. Waterloo Road drew 4.31m (17.8%) for BBC One, while 4.3m (17.7%) watched the MasterChef finalists face some tough cooking challenges on BBC Two.

Relocation, Relocation attracted 2.8m (11.5%) to Channel 4, and Five's Ice Road Truckers took 1.36m (5.6%).

Overall, BBC One came first during primetime with an average share of 19.2%, just beating ITV1's 18.8% share. Channel 4 was third with 11.6% (+1: 0.9%), followed by BBC Two with 10.2% and Five with 4.8%.

Elsewhere, BBC Four's documentary Caravans: A British Love Affair pulled in an impressive 580k (2.7%) at 9pm, beating the 377k (1.8%) for CSI on Five USA.

isnt 1 and half million a good rating for channel 5 though?

Perhaps a couple of years ago, but maybe in this current climate 1,5m viewers does not attract enough advertising revenue

di marco

but surely its one of their best rated programmes?

Don't know, I have not watched it yet and probably won't. Come to think of it, I only watch H&A very rarely on C5.

thats what i mean, ive not seen it either, dont really watch anything on channel 5, but in the ratings most shows are lucky to get over 1 million, so i would have thought thay would have wanted to keep this compared to other shows?

I think the fact the numbers are getting lower might be worrying for them.

Shane Richie has ruled out a return to EastEnders.

Speaking exclusively to DS, Richie - who played Alfie Moon in the BBC One soap - admitted that he is enjoying spending time with his family.

Asked if he would consider a return, he said: "Nah, I think the show has moved on. It will be four years at Christmas since I left. Also, I've got babies now and I live an hour-and-a-half away."

He added: "I'm really enjoying projects where it's 6 or 12 weeks and then you stop - EastEnders is full-on and I don't think I've got the energy anymore."

Discussing Daniella Westbrook's return to Walford, Richie commented: "I kind of feel sorry for Kim [Medcalf] - she left her mark and now they've [replaced her].

"But I know what it's like when you're an actor and you're out of work and you've got a mortgage to pay - you go where the work is. And I know Kim's doing really well at the moment, so I'm sure she's not bothered."

Richie will next be seen in ITV1 drama Whatever It Takes, which airs on Sunday at 9pm.
