Coronation Street star Samia Smith has revealed that she is thrilled with her character's new unglamorous look.
The actress has been forced to ditch her make-up and stylish clothes as she films scenes which show Maria Connor struggling to cope with the loss of her husband Liam, who was played by Rob James-Collier.
"It's much easier not having to spend an hour in make-up," Smith told We Love Telly! magazine. "As an actress you have to be prepared to look right for the part, and if I have to have greasy hair, no make-up and grim clothes then that's fine.
"It wouldn't work if Maria had looked pristine throughout all of the dramas since Liam's death."
Asked if she finds it hard to relax once filming finishes, Smith replied: "It's been OK. I listen to nice music on the drive home and just unwind with my husband Matt and our dog Sonny. Or sometimes I'll take Sonny for a long walk - that always does the trick."
I would not call her look 'grim' , not much different to what she usually looks like
