Michelle Ryan has entered "secret talks" to become Doctor Who's new assistant, according to a report today.

The Sunday Mirror claims that Ryan will join the Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith for the show's fifth series in 2010.

A source told the newspaper: "Michelle's been in secret talks with BBC bosses. They are likely to announce her as Doctor Who's new assistant very soon. She is perfect for the role.

"She is good-looking and the right age to star alongside Matt. Everyone agrees they look great together and reckon fans will think they're the perfect team too."

Ryan, 24, is best known for playing EastEnders' Zoe Slater from 2000 to 2005. She also had the lead part in NBC's short-lived Bionic Woman remake, which aired in 2007.

I said back in 2005 (http://www.soapboards.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=33838&highlight=michelle+Ryan) that i would love to see her as a companion, so i'd like this rumour to be true. I think she would be good alongside Matt Smith.

I like her :) I think she'd be good, but she always seems kinda dark ... if you get me; like Bionic Woman was quite deep, and i think they need to make sure that there is still a light hearted element there aswell (which will be hard following The Tate's series.)

EDIT: I ACTUALLY LOVED THE TATE and i think for anyone it will be hard to follow, but we need to give whoever it is a chance, some people didn't want Catherine doing it - and She was AMAZING :D

I think she would be really good, but i know what you mean about following Tate, she was great at the light hearted stuff.

WIll be interesting if she gets the role.

i dont think michelle ryan could pull it off

Aw no not her she'd be terrible as an assistant. Sheridan Smith would be more suited.

I think that my knee jerk reaction to Catherine Tate's announcement as the assistant has made me less judgemental.

I cannot imagine Zoe Slater as the Doctors companion - I certainly was bothered at the idea of Catherine Tate - but I loved Donna in the end.

Michelle was okay in Merlin, and although I didn't watch the Bionic Woman she must have had something to be cast.

I think the success of this casting (if it happens) depends totally on the writing.

I didn't recognise her immediately in Merlin at all. She definitely had no air of Zoe Slater.

I'd like it to be true too. From what I saw of Jekyll I think it was and what they showed of Matt Smith on the confidential, I think they would make a good pair.

DAVID Tennant heads towards the Ender his stint as Doctor Who — by teaming up with Michelle Ryan.

The ex-EastEnder, 24, plays mysterious Lady Christina de Souza in one of the final episodes being recorded by Time Lord David, 37, before he quits the sci-fi drama.

The episode, called Planet Of The Dead, also stars comic Lee Evans, 44, as a professor.

It will air on BBC1 in the Spring.

From David-tennant (.com)
He will be joined by actress Michelle Ryan, who can be seen with him in the photos above filming on a double decker bus in Cardiff, and actor and comedian Lee Evans.
Michelle will play the mysterious Lady Christina de Souza. She said "I'm a huge fan of Doctor Who and very excited to be joining David Tennant and the Doctor Who team."
Executive producer and writer Russell T Davies said: "Michelle is one of the most sought-after young actors in the country and we are delighted to announce that she will be joining the team.
As always the script is being kept strictly under wraps. However, we can reveal that Lady Christina is a woman with a mysterious past who's going to have a huge impact on the Doctor."
Lee will play a character called Malcolm, whose life becomes connected to the Doctor's in unusual circumstances.
Doctor Who: Planet Of The Dead will air on BBC One at Easter.

Im looking forward to it :) I think Michelle can be good.
