View Full Version : If you won the lotto?
*sighs* its that question, if
But if you did, what would you do? :hmm:
First thing would be plan a trip round the world :D At least a year.
Second would be to make sure my parents were provided for i.e. pay off their mortgage and give them enough money to live very comfortably on. I'd also pay for private healthcare for my mum to find out what's wrong with her.
Give some money to my sisters and their partners, and also put some money in a trust fund for Maisie for uni or a house or something.
I'd also treat close friends and family to a shopping trip in London (maybe New York) and a West End show. A holiday might be in order for my close family too.
I'd probably invest the rest (if there is any more) and buy a house after travelling. Or maybe buy the house before and rent it out :hmm:
If I won the Lotto I would put a fiver to it and pay off all my debt

I would buy a house, give some to my family and to charity, then go travelling.
I would pay off all my debts, the mortgage for the place in Spain and hopefully could afford to move there permanently. If it was a really big win, I would invest it in property and would rent out as there are always people who need a place to live, especially young people.
ooh i wish! I think i would pay off my student debts that are building up quite nicely and maybe use it to get through law school.
top of my list would be to buy a house for us and if i had enough left id buy my mum and dad a bungalow as they really want one!!!
put some away in a fund for the kids and have a holiday, buy a car SHOP SHOP SHOP
of course would have to actually start buying a ticket.........
Depends on how much.. but I would give some to my family.. buy myself a modest home and sponsor a Village (not just a child) in an under developed country even if it meant giving away most of the money I won.. I don't need a big house or expensive cars..
I wouldn't tell anyone at uni, because they'd soon spend it all for me!!! I'd probably buy a couple of houses for various family members, and would go on amazing holidays with my friends and family.
I would first of all buy a nice house here in southampton (well no i wouldnt actually as our one is lush) and one in birmingha, one in devon and one in london.
Then I'd get a car, a mini cooper  , then I'd pay off my student debts. Then I'd treat family and friends to an around the world trip, then the rest I'd put away to live comfortably for rest of life without having to work for a living :D
MAN i dont ask for much in life, I just want to win the lotto. is it too much to ask? lmao!
Depends on how much.
Lets say you win loads like a couple of million :p
This is going to sound really sad, but I don't think that winning the lottery would be a good thing.
I really like Shivs ideas, and perhaps if you do something like that it would be worthwhile, but I know that I am the type of person who, if I have loads of money would find it very difficult to motivate myself to get out of bed.
I like working for a living, I like having a purpose. I do travel a bit, I am very lucky that I am quite comfortably off - but this does depend on both my husband and I working. I have no debt, own house and cars all paid for. And we have worked for everything we have.
I know several millionaires (self made). Money has not been a blessing for them. One chap died at 56 and left his wife 15 million. The whole (extended) family treated her inheritance like a lotto win and all wanted their share - and when they got it it wasn't enough, and then they fell out and seriously - it is now 8 years after his death and they are totally estranged over people feeling that they were 'owed' their share.
Another chap - also died too young and left a younger still widow, she has loads of money and no family it is very sad.
It makes you realise what is important in life - and mainly it is family and friends - they are irreplaceable, everything else is just trimmings.
I mean If I won it I would still wnat to work and stuff I mean nowadays I dont think the lotto you dont get a lot of money, well you do :p but you often share it and you know it goes up and down.
I would give some to my grandparents cos I love them to pieces and miss not seeing them every day
Some to my parents so they can sort out the house and some spare so they cna hoilday
I would then buy myself a house, cos young first time buyers its hard to buy so I would easy sort that
I would then travel all over the world, its my life ambition, and what with the credit crunch I would need loads cos of the different exchange rates.
I would like to travel for between 1-2 years
I have heard many story like that.. people winning the lotto and having nothing but bad luck, falling out with the family etc.... I would like enough so I could go back to Uni and not have to work about fees, rent etc... but most of my money would go to those who actually need it... Maybe it would inspire all those Celebs who get millions every year to actually do something decent for the world
Depends on how much.
Lets say you win loads like a couple of million :p
When I said depends on how much I was think like the euro millions where it went up to 130 mil.. If I had won that, half would have gone to my partner.. and given me 65 million... about 50 million of that would have gone on projects in under developed countries for vacinations, schools, wells etc...
If it was the Lotto and i won about 5 million then i would probably
Pay off my mortgage and debts
Pay off my mum and dads mortgage and all their debts
Buy hubbies mum a house and pay off her debts
I wouldnt want to give any money to any sisters or hubbies family cos they would just be ungrateful but i would put money into a fund for my bro for like uni fee's and just to have money but set at certain stages like so much when he is 18, then some when he is 21 and then some more when he is like 25 or summat.
I would then buy a villa in majorca (Alcudia) with about 4 bedrooms and a big pool. Would also like another villa somewhere else as well and would pay a company to come and clean it after people have stayed in it. I would then rent it out to family and friends. I know that seems nasty making them pay for it but it would be cheap and i wouldnt want them taking advantage just cos i have money.
Me and hubby would go for driving lessons and then both get a new car each. I would want a Renault Megane and hubby would want and Range Rover.
I would then organise that me and my hubby cannot spend too much by asking the bank to put so much into an account each month for which we can spend on bills etc like around £2500 a month or summat.
See i have it all planned out. How boring my life is to actually know all that i would do ehh?!?!

First off I would have a lawyer to make sure that my name is never in the papers or any media outlet that I won( don't want a bunch of people bugging me for stuff, and giving me sob stories and telling me to invest in their snake oil that cures all LOL ). Once that is in place.. I could set up a healthy trust fund for my grand sons. Pay off my sons mortage, and student loans ( for both him and his wife ) and give lump sums of money to my 2 sisters and my brother.
Then buy a house in the USA, close enough where I could be with my family in less than an hour...
I am sure after all this is done I will have a nice little nest egg to live on comfortably so that my partner can take an early retirement.
As some one said gotta go out an buy a ticket first :rotfl:
I used to pray to the Lord, every night: 'Please, God, let me win the lottery this weekend.' After several weeks of praying, the Lord came to me one night and said: 'I would like you to win the lottery, so go and buy a ticket.'

Same here... there is some crazy law or something saying that you can only win if you buy a ticket.. what is that about :rotfl:

Well me and my friend Sara have plans to move to Vegas, so now that i'm finally legal to put the lottery on, if i won it i'd put enough money away to pay for a place over there until we're ready to move and then I have noooo idea what i'd do with the rest. I'd like to give enough to my mum and dad to pay off the mortgage and then give them money to pay for a holiday for just the two of them.
Ooo and buy a car seeing as i'm starting driving lessons January next year :D

well i dont really buy lottery tickets as i know i probably would never win anything lol! i only buy the euro millions ones occassionally when its got a huge jackpot (and have so far won a grand total of £3.70 lol which wouldnt get me very far!) but if i did actually win it then id:
- well first off id split it and give half to my sis cos everytime we buy a ticket we buy one each and whatever we win we split between the 2 of us
- then id buy a huge piece of land somewhere (not sure where yet) and have my own house built how i wanted it (i already sort of know what i want, me and my sis were talking about it the other day lol it would have to have a huge garden and a swimming pool!)
- then maybe buy a house somewhere in australia and somewhere in america (not sure exactly where yet)
- get driving lessons and buy myself a nice car
- go travelling around the world
- then id give some to my family, id give my parents, grandparents and uncle quite a lot cos theyve given me quite a lot of stuff over the years (although im not sure if my grandparents and uncle would know what to do with it!), and id also give some to my other family, id put some in trust for my 2 little cousins til they were 25 and give some to my aunties, and then as my mum has a very large extended family id give all the children some money in trust
- then id put the rest in the bank to get interest on and give some to charity

but I know that I am the type of person who, if I have loads of money would find it very difficult to motivate myself to get out of bed.
i think i might find it hard being motivated to start with, but i think id soon start to be really bored and want to still go to work as long as i enjoyed my job
I know several millionaires (self made). Money has not been a blessing for them. One chap died at 56 and left his wife 15 million. my mums always said that if she won the lottery (she doesnt buy a ticket anymore but when she used to) that even though she would give some money to all the kids in her extended family, that never mind how much she gave them some of her cousins etc would still think they hadnt been given enough, which i think is pretty sad
I'd pay off any of my parent's debt (morgage etc) and buy them a house abroad - probably Spain.
Buy me a brand spanking new car - or maybe a few :D
Buy me some properties :)
Give some dosh to the grandparents.
Buy my brother some bits and bobs, go on a couple of holidays and pay for the friends etc
And then whack the rest in some high interest saving's accounts :D
However, if i won it right now - i'd pay our holiday off in full for me and the rest of my friends; because we promised we would.
Now if only i did the lottery .....
