The Dingles rally round Marlon (Mark Charnock) and ban Donna (Verity Rushworth) from the homestead. Donna is stunned to be told that Marlon has reported Shane’s blackmail to the police. Ross (Samuel Anderson) returns to the village and has to defend himself to Paddy (Dominic Brunt) when his cousin asks outright whether he murdered Shane. Later, when Marlon reveals to him that he made sure the police were aware he was Shane’s killer, Ross smacks him in the face. A vicious brawl ensues until the police arrive and arrest them both. At the police station Marlon is discharged but Ross is advised to get himself a solicitor as it doesn’t look good for him right now. Can Ross fight the evidence against him?

Meanwhile, Ashley (John Middleton) is curious as to why the Kings are proceeding with the funeral without Anna, but backs off when he sees how badly Jimmy (Nick Miles) is handling things. Under pressure, Jimmy runs off and tells Carl (Tom Lister) to manage things. Retiring to the Woolpack, Jimmy tries once more to drink his problems away and spurns all attempts by the villagers to comfort him. Eventually dragged out of the pub by Scarlett (Kelsey-Beth Crossley) and Carl, Jimmy bemoans the bad luck that has befallen his broken family. Will the funeral go without a hitch?

Tuesday, 6 January 2009, 7:00PM - 8:00PM

Ross (Samuel Anderson) tells the police that Jasmine (Jenna-Louise Coleman) can back up his story that he turned up and left Shane’s flat without even stepping foot inside. However, when Jasmine is questioned by the police she lies claiming it is possible that Ross could have been in Shane’s flat. Eli (Joseph Gilgun) tells Debbie (Charley Webb) and Jasmine that Ross is still being questioned and that he is not going to shed a tear after what he did to his brother. Jasmine, however, is sickened at to what she has done. Donna (Verity Rushworth) finds Ross in the cells and asks if he killed Shane. Ross is hurt she could even ask but before they can talk further Donna is bundled out of the cells by a colleague. Donna witnesses Ross being charged with murder and is crushed by his perilous situation. Can Donna save Ross?

Elsewhere, Ashley (John Middleton) tells the Kings of Tom’s defaced gravestone and it proves to be the final straw for fragile Jimmy (Nick Miles). He heads to the Woolpack and almost provokes a fight with Zak (Steve Halliwell). Attendance for the funeral is scant and it’s clear that nobody is comfortable with the service. During Matthew’s funeral, Jimmy angrily demands to know who defaced Tom’s grave. As he speaks a final mourner slips into church – it’s Anna (Emma Davies). He singles out people who could have a motive then storms out in disgust. Carl (Tom Lister) then delivers a eulogy for Matthew mentioning how much he loved Anna. They eventually lay Matthew to rest without further interruptions and afterwards Anna leaves the village to start a new life. Can the Kings rebuild after Matthew’s funeral?

At the wake, Carl thanks Chas (Lucy Pargeter) for coming to the funeral insisting she got him through the day. They hug and Chas finds herself enjoying being close to him again. Before the moment can get any more passionate, Chas pulls away and returns home. After enjoying a drink to wind down after a hard day Chas finds a can of spray paint and realises it was Aaron (Danny Miller) who defaced Tom’s grave. Has Aaron put her blossoming relationship with Carl is jeopardy?

Jimmy (Nick Miles) is furious when Katie (Sammy Winward) accidentally lets slip about the hunt. Livid he heads to the B&B along with Richard, a husband of a guest sure Rodney (Patrick Mower) is up to no good with his wife. Hearing the oncoming commotion, Rodney, semi-naked makes a swift exit from the B&B through the factory much to the worker’s delight. As Jimmy heads upstairs, Richard follows behind with a gun. Jamie (Alex Carter) tries to wrestle the weapon from his grasp causing the gun to goes off and shoot Jimmy in the bum. On hearing that Jimmy has been shot Carl (Tom Lister) is in turmoil until he realises his brothers injuries are far from serious. How will Jimmy cope with being the butt of everyone’s jokes?

Elsewhere, on hearing the news that Ross has been charged, Jasmine (Jenna-Louise Coleman) tells Debbie (Charley Webb) that she is going to confess to the police. Debbie is very matter of fact and begins to tell Jasmine about everything she’ll be sacrificing by losing her freedom. When Jasmine seems intent on proceeding Debbie packs her a holdall and offers to drive her to the police station, trying to call her bluff. Outside the police station Debbie manages to convince Jasmine to wait a little longer and see what happens. Grateful, Jasmine thanks Debbie for her support and the girls kiss passionately. Can Jasmine and Debbie get through the investigation together?

Carl (Tom Lister) is furious with Debbie (Charley Webb) when she’s a day late making her payment and announces he’s taking the garage. Debbie finds Chas (Lucy Pargeter) and warns her that the taxi firm is in jeopardy because of Carl’s decision. An angry Chas confronts Carl and can’t believe he’s run roughshod over her family to save his own. Carl tries to defend himself but Chas tells him he has thrown away any chance they had of reconciliation. Carl won’t take no for an answer and tells Chas that his relationship with Lexi is a sham, stating that he only feels good with Chas. Telling her he loves her, Carl kisses Chas and promises to reconsider taking the garage if she’ll think about getting back together. Will Chas turn back the clock and give Carl one more chance?

Meanwhile, when Marlon (Mark Charnock) is unsure what to do about his living arrangements, the other Dingles are up in arms that Donna (Verity Rushworth) has taken residence in Tall Trees. Zak (Steve Halliwell), Shadrach (Andy Devine) and Eli (Joseph Gilgun) move Marlon’s things from the homestead back to Tall Trees behind his back. As they’re emptying the last bags Donna arrives and faces a Dingle backlash. They are stopped by Marlon who warns his family off intimidating Donna to leave the house. Donna is grateful for him defending her and tells Marlon she’ll be ready to talk when he feels up to it. Is there still hope for the troubled couple?

Also, Rodney (Patrick Mower) apologises to Jimmy (Nick Miles) for deceiving him over the shoot and offers him a cut of the profits. Later, Rodney and Jamie (Alex Carter) split the now meagre remaining cash and laugh that despite the problems they had fun working together. Jamie mentions that as long as Rodney keeps his wandering eye for the ladies away from his business affairs, he would be happy to work with him in the future. Rodney agrees to keep Jamie abreast of any future opportunities. Is this the start of a beautiful working relationship?

Aaron (Danny Miller) breaks into Mill Cottage and begins to graffiti the walls in protest over Carl’s (Tom Lister) treatment of his mother. However, Carl catches him in the act and Aaron has to dash out of the door to avoid facing the angry King. Carl refuses to let him get away with it and pursues him down the Main Street, eventually rugby tackling Aaron to the ground. Chas (Lucy Pargeter) is mortified and accidentally tells Carl that Aaron also scrawled on Tom’s grave. Before Carl’s anger becomes uncontrollable Chas frogmarches Aaron outside and tenderly tells Carl she’s make things right.

When they get home Aaron tells Chas that he’s trying to ensure that Carl doesn’t hurt her again. He tells Chas the he saw the kiss with Carl and, although shocked, Chas is touched to see some care from her son. However, Aaron turns and issues Chas an ultimatum: either she chooses Carl or him. With no other choice Chas lies to Carl that she’s not interested and never was. Both are crushed. Later, Carl tells Debbie (Charley Webb) that the resurrected King & Sons will be operating out of the garage and he’ll keep her on, though the repayments will rise. Can Carl and Chas move on from their feelings for one another?

Meanwhile, Paul (Mathew Bose) is deeply upset when he receives a letter from Jonny wanting to tie up any loose ends in their marriage. While Lily (Anne Charleston) schemes to engineer a meeting between the pair, Val (Charlie Hardwick) is convinced her son needs fresh male attention. Lily texts Jonny pretending to be Paul and is pleased to receive an acquiescence to meet. Over at the Woolpack, Val’s ropey mothering skills come to no good when Paul declines her offer of a night on the town. How will Paul react to the matchmaking efforts of his friends and family
