Industry gossip this morning suggests that perky Danish ‘Wonky Pop’ merchants Alphabeat have been dropped by EMI.
The band’s debut album ‘This Is Alphabeat’ broke the UK top ten this year, spawning the monster hit ‘Fascination’. But the band’s success on a worldwide level was less impressive than their achievements in the UK, and word is that they’ve parted company with their label.
The exact circumstances are yet to be properly revealed – Clash has contacted the band’s label and received the following reply:
"[We can't confirm anything] at the moment, but 'What Is Happening' was definitely the last single from this album."
Also doing the rumour rounds, the news that Mystery Jets are without a label. If this is true, then based on the wonder that is their ‘Twenty One’ album (number 19 in the Clash Top 40 albums of 2008) we expect them to be snapped up pretty sharpish.
