Lucas & Denise discuss their relationship

Denise is worried about meeting up with Lucas again and asks Chelsea and Libby to go out so she can make the day special. Chelsea, however, is sceptical that her mum will mess up with Lucas like she has done before, while Libby just wants Denise to be happy. Denise loses her temper easily with Chelsea, though, and while Chelsea's out at the Minute Mart, she asks Patrick to have a word with Denise.

After a few words of wisdom from Patrick, Lucas arrives at the Truemans' and makes a last-ditch attempt for Denise's hand in marriage. As the girls wait in anticipation for their mum's answer, she tells them that it's a no because God doesn't want them living in sin and that Lucas has taken a new job in Leeds.

Later, Denise accuses Lucas of spending more time talking to God than his family – the truth be told, Lucas's religion is starting to get on Denise's nerves. It's at this point that Lucas realises that he and Denise list totally different lifestyles.

As Billy leaves Jay a voicemail, Janine calls the landlord of the flat they're in and claims that she is representing clients who are currently living at 43a Albert Square. Janine later hears from Peggy that she's seen Jay down George Street, prompting Janine to relay the youngster's location to Billy who rushes down the road to find him. Jay's outside Walford's new massage parlour, Gilly's.

Friday 16th January 2009
Jean takes a turn for the worse

A confused Jean tells Stacey that she's struggling to sleep and frets that Stacey will send her to a mental health unit. After talking with her mum for a short while, Stacey decides that she probably doesn't need the extra help any more, so tells Mo that she's going to cancel the request she made yesterday for Jean's care assistant to make more regular visits. Mo, however, is furious and claims that Charlie can't cope with Jean any longer. With the care assistant sitting in the kitchen, Stacey tries to pretend everything's OK with Jean, but Mo's not helping the situation in the slightest. While the Slaters and Jean's care assistant discuss her fate, they don't realise Jean's listening in the kitchen. With Jean having disappeared, the care assistant agrees that Stacey can probably look after her mum on her own, but only on the proviso that she calls for help if she needs it.

Later, Stacey's thrown into a state of panic when she realises that Jean's missing. Stacey, Charlie and Mo search for Jean who's stood in the middle of the road in her dressing gown, with car horns beeping all around her. Stacey finds Jean just in time and take her home. Stacey and Danielle momentarily see each other and they quickly patch things up, with Stacey offering Danielle her room back at the Slaters'.

When they arrive back at the house, Jean locks herself inside, forcing Mo to pick the lock. Inside, Jean sits at the kitchen table with her medication and a knife on the table. The family force themselves into the house and Jean admits that she can't carry on the way she is any longer, before agreeing to be admitted to hospital. When the car arrives to take Jean away, Mo and Charlie are riddled with guilt and as Jean's about to climb into the car, she blows Stacey a kiss before being driven away.

Meanwhile, Danielle's spent the night at Ronnie's flat. She explains to Ronnie that the news came as a shock to her and now she doesn't know that to do for the best. Ronnie, however, seems to have the situation all wrapped up in her head when she hears that the baby's father won't want anything to do with her. When Danielle returns from the DVD shop, she's stunned to see her father, Andy. She hears him talking about her younger brother and Danielle interrupts the conversation. He tells Danielle that the family is missing her and that she should go back home with him. When Andy leaves, Danielle lies to Ronnie that her dad has suggested that she have an abortion – a situation that Ronnie knows a thing or two about. However, when Ronnie claims that the biggest mistake of her life was having a baby at such an early age, Danielle's mind is made up – she's having an abortion.

Elsewhere, Jay and Marissa continue to bond as Jay's bought her a new coat
Denise confronts Lucas about Jordan's revelation but Lucas assures her that he's commenced divorce proceedings with Trina.
