Coldplay have revealed that they chose Girls Aloud as a support act because they would make fans "happy".
The girlband will open for Coldplay at Wembley Stadium on September 18.
Drummer Will Champion told BBC 6 Music: "They're going to be so much fun and that's ultimately what we want to do.
"Sometimes we find ourselves taking ourselves very, very seriously and we don't want too much head scratching or brow furrowing. Ultimately we want people to have a happy time."
He added: "We wanted there to be a bit of variety and something that people might not expect from a Coldplay show and something that's a little like a mini festival."
Jay-Z will play the venue alongside Coldplay the following night.
