Joe McIntyre does a runner after he becomes the prime suspect for a robbery at Bill Webster’s builders yard.

The kitchen fitter (Reece Dinsdale, 49) worked there before copper piping and tools went missing.

But David Platt (Jack P Shepherd, 20) saw two of the newly-arrived Windass family by the yard on the night of the robbery.

Joe’s daughter Tina (Michelle Keegan, 21) tracks him down to his hideout in a lock-up and tells him: “You’ve got to come back and face everyone dad.

DEVOTED dad Joe McIntyre loses it with Gary Windass when he tries it on with his gorgeous daughter Tina.

Mild-mannered Joe grabs the lad by the neck as Tina looks on.

And he warns the teen if he so much as looks at her again then he’ll kill him.

Terrified Gary has no choice but to take the threat seriously.

“And with the two families still at loggerheads this latest confrontation will do little to bring peace between the neighbours.

A Coronation Street insider told us: “Gary continues to have a go at both Tina and her boyfriend David Platt whenever he can.

“He loves winding them up, especially David. He’s made no secret of the fact he fancies Tina but when he gets her on her own and acts all sleazy she breaks down in tears to her dad.

“Joe is furious when he discovers Gary has tried it on with her and goes straight out to find him.

“And as soon as he catches up with him he wastes no time warning him to stay well away from his daughter.

“Gary is shocked by the way Joe acts as he’s never seen him so angry.

“Joe isn’t a particularly violent man but when it comes to Tina he’ll do anything to protect her and Gary quickly realises that he’s pushed him too far this time.”

Fans of the ITV1 soap will be able to watch Joe collar Gary a week on Friday.

CORRIE chiefs are planning one of their hardest-hitting drug stories yet — as Joe McIntyre gets hooked on painkillers.
The depressive kitchen fitter is already moping around lover Gail Platt’s house with a bad back.

But as his injury worsens, Joe, played by Reece Dinsdale, 49, gets addicted to prescription drugs — and turns nasty.

He lies to doctors to get his hands on more of the super-strength pills, suffers mood swings then becomes abusive towards Gail (Helen Worth).
Joe will lie to docs to get his hands on more of the pills his body craves.

When they tell him he might need SURGERY he agrees to reduce his regular dose.

But he eventually becomes violent, with poor Gail bearing the brunt.

Corrie chiefs hope the story will highlight the dangers of prescription drugs, which is a growing problem worldwide.

A show source said: “Everyone knows that heroin and cocaine can ruin lives, but addiction to prescription drugs is rife and rips respectable families apart. Most soaps have featured illegal drug addiction but painkiller addiction is almost unheard of.

“It will highlight a real issue for modern Britain as viewers see the terrible effect Joe’s addiction has on Gail and daughter Tina.”

American Idol judge Paula Abdul admitted this week that she was hooked on painkillers for 12 years before kicking the habit in November last year. The former pop star revealed she wore a patch that delivered pain medication 80 times more potent than morphine, and also popped muscle-relaxing drugs.

She took regular shots of super-strong painkiller lidocaine, and by 2005 was diagnosed with a related syndrome that caused disabling pain, teeth chattering and shingles-like lesions.

She said: “I could have killed myself. I was freezing cold, then sweating hot, then chattering and in so much pain.

“It was excruciating. But at my very core, I did not like existing the way I had been.”
