Charlotte Church is to appear in a Channel 4 Christmas special and the broadcaster's festive schedule includes Russell Brand, Alan Carr, Justin Lee Collins, Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall in special programmes.

The channel has given the go-ahead for one-off specials of Ponderland and The Charlotte Church Show for the festive season, while The Sunday Night Project returns to a Friday night for an edition fronted by comedy writer/actor Simon Pegg.

Jamie Oliver returns for a second annual instalment of Jamie Cooks Christmas, with his mentor Gennaro Contaldo helping him cook on a budget. Meanwhile, Fearnley-Whittingstall is out to transform the fortunes of the much-maligned Brussel sprout as part of his mission to prepare the perfect Christmas trimmings.

Other specials include a specially televised version of Derren Brown's stage show Evening of Wonders and a screening of Julien Temple's contemporary opera The Eternity Man.

The shows join previously announced programmes including a Christmas special of the documentary series The Family, Robert Beckford's documentary The Nativity Decoded, and Willie's Perfect Chocolate Christmas.
