Monday 8th December
Jasmine (Jenna-Louise Coleman) is plagued by nightmares following the disposal of Shane’s body. Realising her friend is struggling, Debbie (Charley Webb) is at a loss over how to help. Jasmine hurries out to clear her head and mentions to Ashley (John Middleton) that she and Shane have broken up. Eli (Joseph Gilgun) is furious with her for speaking so freely. Finding Shane’s phone in the back of the van, Eli comes up with a plan. Eli and Debbie send a text from the phone to Jasmine whilst she is with Ashley. Jasmine makes sure she shows Ashley the message from Shane asserting that they have stayed friends. Glad their plan has come off, the threesome burn the rest of the evidence and Eli warns Jasmine that she needs to pull herself together. Meanwhile, Paddy (Dominic Brunt) tells Ross (Samuel Anderson) he wants him to leave and is surprised when his cousin agrees. Noticing Ross packing his bags, Donna (Verity Rushworth) seeks him out to find out what’s going on. Ross tells Donna that he’s going away for a while. As Bob (Tony Audenshaw) interrupts their heart-to-heart, Donna is crushed to suspect that Ross is really saying goodbye. Paddy watches his cousin drive away from the village, confident that he’s done the right thing. Elsewhere, Lisa (Jane Cox) and Zak (Steve Halliwell) urge Chas (Lucy Pargeter) to lay down the law with Aaron (Danny Miller) when he’s found having broken into the cricket pavilion overnight. However, when his father turns up and explains that Aaron has trashed his office. Covering for their own, the Dingles invent a story for Aaron and his father leaves without proof of Aaron’s involvement. Chas follows Zak and Lisa’s earlier advice by telling Aaron if he doesn’t tow the line she will be on his back for every moment of every day.
Tuesday 9 December
Jasmine (Jenna-Louise Coleman) finds it difficult to be out in public despite Eli (Joseph Gilgun) and Debbie (Charley Webb) urging her to carry on as normal. Finally, Jasmine resolves not to let Shane’s murder ruin her life and she tells McNally (Steve Farebrother) that she will be entering into the competition with a story about the possible church closure. Although unimpressed that she’s dropped a drugs story for one on human interest, McNally is swayed by Jasmine’s conviction and agrees to see how it turns out. Later, Debbie is relieved to see that Jasmine has control over her emotions and hopes for and end to their worries. Also, the church choir get their first gig as Ashley (John Middleton) arranges a performance in front of the nursery. Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) is concerned about shy Gennie’s (Sian Reese-Williams) reaction. David (Matthew Wolfenden) snidely wishes Laurel luck but she’s preoccupied with Gennie’s continuing confidence issues. Finally Val (Charlie Hardwick) snaps and warns Gennie that if she can’t sing with the rest of the choir then she might as well leave. Gennie is rattled but when Jamie (Alex Carter) convinces her she’s got a lovely voice, she agrees to set aside her doubts.
Meanwhile, Matthew (Matt Healy) is pained to see Anna (Emma Davies) wrestling with her emotions as Donald’s hearse pulls up at Home Farm. Anna fights back the tears as she makes a short but honest speech at Donald’s funeral. Matthew can’t look her in the eyes as he becomes drowned in guilt. After the service, Carl (Tom Lister) receives a phone call and tells his brothers that the business is in trouble as they still haven’t received a penny from Polek and now other backers are calling in debts. Knowing there’s no other option, Matthew asks Anna for a loan and she agrees to back the Kings to the tune of £35,000.
Wednesday 10 December
Gennie (Sian Reese-Williams) is hit by a crisis of confidence when she finds out about the performance in front of the kids. Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) is forced to organise an impromptu rehearsal in the factory toilets. Impatient to discover how Nicola’s work is progressing, David (Matthew Wolfenden) and Pollard (Chris Chittell) decide to attend the performance too. At the Church, preparations are in place, hampered by Gennie’s fear and a few no-shows. Desperate to put on a good show, Nicola arranges for Betty (Paula Tilbrook) to mime Gennie’s performance while the latter provides vocals from behind a screen. Pollard and David suss from the brilliant performance that Nicola has turned on them and vow to take matters into their own hands and stop the choir winning. Meanwhile, Lily (Anne Charleston) has a fall at home then passes out and Rodney (Patrick Mower) is worried to find his friend’s condition has worsened. The reality of the seriousness of her operation finally hits Lily and she breaks down on Rodney. On his way to take Lily to the hospital Rodney encounters Edna (Shirley Stelfox) who voices her displeasure at the influence he’s having over her sister. Rodney defends himself, almost disclosing Lily’s illness but stops at the last moment. Elsewhere, Matthew (Matt Healy) voices his reservations about taking Anna’s (Emma Davies) money but she tells him not to worry and put all his focus on the wedding. Jimmy (Nick Miles) and Carl (Tom Lister) are suspicious upon hearing about the offer but have no choice than to accept the money. Frustrated that even the loan will tide them over for no more than a few days, the Kings worry that Polek might be stalling their investment deliberately.
Thursday 11 December
The choir arrive for the contest full of confidence, but Pollard (Chris Chittell) and David (Matthew Wolfenden) have mischief on their minds. Their plan involves enticing Betty (Paula Tilbrook), who they assume is the secret vocal weapon, to a ‘special’ dressing room and then locking the door behind her. Numbers begin to dwindle when Edna (Shirley Stelfox) and Pearl (Meg Johnson) are called away and Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) is forced to appeal to team spirit to bind her smaller team. The decision is made that Val (Charlie Hardwick) will take Betty’s place and mime for nervous Gennie (Sian Reese-Williams). As Val steps up to ‘sing’ Pollard and David are horrified to realise they’ve taken a pawn out of the equation instead of the Queen. However, Val is suddenly overcome with a coughing fit and the audience realise she’s miming. A chorus of boos bring the performance to a halt, courtesy of Pollard. Desperate to succeed, Nicola arranges for a repeat performance on the condition that Gennie steps out of the shadows. When it looks like Gennie can’t join them, Nicola takes to the stage with her choir and makes a heartfelt pledge to save the Church. As the performance begins, the crowd are shocked when Gennie emerges from the shadows and a rapturous round of applause accompanies her angelic tones. A furious David storms over after the song and tells the choir about Nicola’s scheme. Nicola is left feeling alone when the choir shun her and David ends their relationship. With Nicola at her lowest ebb she is sidelined as the choir collect a Special Achievement Award for their performance. At the hospital, Rodney (Patrick Mower) makes one last attempt to try and convince Lily (Anne Charleston) to tell Edna about the operation, but fails. As the doctor begins to explain the procedure, Lily becomes more and more apprehensive. After sending Rodney for some water, Lily legs it. With his friend nowhere to be found Rodney calls Edna and feels compelled to explain the situation. As they argue over responsibility for Lily, she returns home and immediately takes issue with Edna as her sister tries to take control of the situation. As the pair argue, Edna accuses Lily of running away from her problems. Lily is hurt and explains to Edna that she’s scared and as the tears flow, Edna supports her sister. Rodney and Pearl are relieved when Lily agrees to return to the hospital. Keeping a brave face, Lily is wheeled into the operating theatre and pledges to go ahead with her trip to Rio once she’s out of surgery.
Friday 12 December
In the aftermath of the choir competition friendships and relationships have gone sour as Val (Charlie Hardwick) shuns Pollard (Chris Chittell) and David (Matthew Wolfenden), David refuses to apologise to Nicola (Nicola Wheeler), and Nicola is ignored by Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy). When the Bishop (Peter Cartwright) visits later, Ashley (John Middleton) and Laurel are rocked to hear that the Diocese have accepted an offer from Pollard and the church sale is going ahead. As they break the news the villagers and choir members are heartbroken and Nicola guilty. Later, Pollard and David face a barrage of criticism in the Woolpack. Nicola is gutted when Laurel tells her their friendship is over for good. Meanwhile, the Kings are shocked to receive a letter from the bank threatening legal action and realise they must get the money from Polek quickly. After calling a meeting with their lawyers, Matthew (Matt Healy) is frustrated to learn that it will be difficult to put any pressure on Polek. Anna (Emma Davies) offers to release her equity in De Souza to save King and Sons. Carl (Tom Lister) accepts that Anna’s offer is genuine and is troubled to see his brother so torn about accepting the money. Carl advises a guilty Matthew that he owes it to Anna to tell her the truth about Donald and Matthew agrees but is worried that he may lose her. At the hospital Edna (Shirley Stelfox) is relieved when Lily (Anne Charleston) wakes up and delights in telling her sister that the operation was a complete success. Edna and Lily agree to start afresh and Edna comes clean about the raffle money. Lily is aghast to hear that Peter didn’t pay the money back, but is touched to realise Edna sacrificed everything to help her. The sisters are reunited and embrace. Rodney (Patrick Mower) and Pearl (Meg Johnson) are pleased to witness the tender moment.
Jasmine (Jenna-Louise Coleman) is plagued by nightmares following the disposal of Shane’s body. Realising her friend is struggling, Debbie (Charley Webb) is at a loss over how to help.
