LOOKS like GEORGE SAMPSON won’t be singing for his supper for much longer as his musical career got off to a truly dreadful start yesterday.
The breakdancing boy wonder limped into the midweek charts at a dismal No26 — far below the top ten position SIMON COWELL and his Syco label chiefs had been hoping for.
Double A-side single Get Up On The Dance Floor/Headz Up made an awful debut despite bigwigs shelling out for a private jet to take the 15-year-old to CD signings across the country on Monday.
It’s a blow for the great little lad from Warrington, who had plans to record an album if his single was a hit.
I really can’t see that happening now.
A source tells me: “George’s bid for chart glory has got off to the worst start imaginable.
“It’s been a complete ****-up and the atmosphere in the Syco offices are toxic.
“This launch has been planned meticulously for months and for it to go this badly wrong is a really bitter pill to swallow.
“There’s every chance somebody’s going to be for the high jump over all of this.”
George’s chances of glory were severely hindered by a bungle with the digital version of the single.
Syco sources say fans haven’t been able to download the track from iTunes because of an admin gaffe.
George hit Zavvi stores in Manchester, Birmingham and London on Monday and was greeted by thousands of screaming supporters — it’s just a shame more of them didn’t bother to buy the single.
Figures show it shifted just 2,398 copies.
TAKE THAT — who look set to topple BEYONCE’s If I Were A Boy from the top spot on Sunday with Greatest Day — shame George with their sales.
They’ve flogged a whopping 24,666 copies.
That’s ten times more than George.
Last week the Britain’s Got Talent winner — who is releasing DVD Access 2 All Areas next week — told The Sun that the success of his single would determine the entire direction of his future career.
George said: “The single is crucial to what I do next.
“If it does well I’m going to make an album.
“If more people buy the DVD I’ll focus on the dancing again.”
