LOOKS like GEORGE SAMPSON won’t be singing for his supper for much longer as his musical career got off to a truly dreadful start yesterday.
The breakdancing boy wonder limped into the midweek charts at a dismal No26 — far below the top ten position SIMON COWELL and his Syco label chiefs had been hoping for.

Double A-side single Get Up On The Dance Floor/Headz Up made an awful debut despite bigwigs shelling out for a private jet to take the 15-year-old to CD signings across the country on Monday.

It’s a blow for the great little lad from Warrington, who had plans to record an album if his single was a hit.

I really can’t see that happening now.

A source tells me: “George’s bid for chart glory has got off to the worst start imaginable.

“It’s been a complete ****-up and the atmosphere in the Syco offices are toxic.

“This launch has been planned meticulously for months and for it to go this badly wrong is a really bitter pill to swallow.

“There’s every chance somebody’s going to be for the high jump over all of this.”

George’s chances of glory were severely hindered by a bungle with the digital version of the single.

Syco sources say fans haven’t been able to download the track from iTunes because of an admin gaffe.

George hit Zavvi stores in Manchester, Birmingham and London on Monday and was greeted by thousands of screaming supporters — it’s just a shame more of them didn’t bother to buy the single.

Figures show it shifted just 2,398 copies.

TAKE THAT — who look set to topple BEYONCE’s If I Were A Boy from the top spot on Sunday with Greatest Day — shame George with their sales.

They’ve flogged a whopping 24,666 copies.

That’s ten times more than George.

Last week the Britain’s Got Talent winner — who is releasing DVD Access 2 All Areas next week — told The Sun that the success of his single would determine the entire direction of his future career.

George said: “The single is crucial to what I do next.

“If it does well I’m going to make an album.

“If more people buy the DVD I’ll focus on the dancing again.”

Completely agree.

I just think it's Simon Cowell trying to squeeze some more money out of him by getting him to sing as well as dance.

George Sampson body-popped his way onto the nation's TV screens earlier this year, winning Britain's Got Talent with his street dance to 'Singin' In The Rain'. Six months on, the 15-year-old Warrington lad is launching a pop career with a double A-side single in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital. We caught up with George to find out how he's feeling about battling Take That for the number one spot.

How did you react when you were asked to record a single?
"I didn't know what to say! When I was young I used listen to tracks and say, 'I wonder what's going to get number one this week?' Now I'm releasing a track which might do really well - it's proper weird!"

What was your favourite music growing up?
"I used to love all the old school classics growing up, but I love R&B and hip-hop now. Then again, there's nothing I don't like. There's a big mix of styles on the single and that's what I like."

How were the tracks written? Did the songs or the dance routines come first?
"It's all a bit of a blur, but I just sat down with different producers and made songs. We started out with just words, then we tried different backings and I just started beatboxing randomly. It was all these little things that made the tracks. It was important that I could dance to the songs because I didn't just want to stand there. Everyone knows me as a dancer, so that would have been silly."

There are some attractive females in the 'Headz Up' video. Did you pick them?
"The girls in the video were attractive and I did get a say over that! Whenever they were doing a casting, I'd say, 'Can I be there?' I wasn't really supposed be, but I just went anyway. If they were auditioning a girl to star opposite me, I wanted to know who she was. The director always checked back with me and asked, 'Do you think she's pretty? Do you think she's a good mover?' I guess it was an all-round decision."

We get to hear you rapping on the tracks. Are you a secret MC in your spare time?
"I've always done it. I mean let's face it, about two years ago I was a bit of a chav and a bit of a scallywag. All the scallies do the MCing and I used to rap quite a bit. I focused on my dancing more than anything, but now I'm bringing all my talents out."

You're up against Take That for the number one spot. How do you rate your chances?
"Every week there's going to be a big hit, but I just happen to be up against Take That, the biggest of them all! McFly are releasing their track this week as well, so I'm just hoping for the best. My track is for Great Ormond Street Hospital so all we can do is sit back and hope it gets to number one."

So you won't be making fun of them for being old men?
"I actually think 'Greatest Day' is a good song! I didn't want to like it but I do. I'm not allowed to enjoy it for the next few weeks though because I've got to get into the zone. I still think Take That will end up beating me though."

How do you rate Take That's dance skills?
"Jason is amazing and Mark was good as well. They're great movers, they don't just stand there and wave their hands around and do the typical boyband thing! They were specifically break-dancers, but they were really good at it. My mum used to go and watch them busking in the streets in Manchester when they were starting out and her passion for them has rubbed off on me."

Do you fancy becoming a full-time popstar?
"I don't know. I look at people from reality TV shows and see people like Leona, Will Young and Girls Aloud and think that's great. But then I also remember the people before that like... Steve? I think Steve was his name... And Michelle McManus. My career could go either way, but fingers crossed it will go for the best."

How closely have you worked with Simon Cowell since winning Talent?
"I see Simon regularly. He's the boss, he's the main man and everyone wants to be him. He's such a cool guy that he can be whatever you want him to be. He can be a friend or your boss. You can call him whatever you want!"

George Sampson's double A-side single, 'Get Up On The Dancefloor'/'Headz Up', is out now.
