Emmerdale actor Paul McEwan has confessed that he was so worried about a harrowing rape storyline he filmed for the soap that he warned his mother about it.
The star wanted to make sure his mum had prior knowledge that the scene, in which his character PC Shane Doyle tries to attack Jasmine Thomas, was going to take place.
"When I read what my character was going to get up to, the first thing I did was call my mum to warn her," he told The People.
"I knew she'd get upset. She's an avid Emmerdale watcher and I thought I had better tell her what was going to happen. It must be hard for a mother to watch something so deeply unpleasant."
McEwan revealed that the scene is so disturbing that some of the crew had difficulty shooting it.
"The female camera operators and other crew were uncomfortable during filming. I don't think anyone will feel comfortable watching it," he said.
