GMTV’s new host has been named as sexy reporter Emma Crosby.

The Sky News business presenter, 31, will take over from Fiona Phillips, 47, as morning TV queen.

She will start in the New Year — on a hefty £250,000 pay packet.

Emma joins ex-Strictly Come Dancing star Kate Garraway on the sofa.

She said: “I am very excited to be joining Britain’s leading breakfast programme and working alongside Kate, who is a great talent.”

Scot Kirsty McCabe, 33, will leave the BBC to join the show as weather girl. She replaces Andrea McClean, who will become a permanent star on ITV’s Loose Women.

Fiona announced she would quit in September. Husband Martin Frizell, GMTV’s editor, said last night: “Emma will be a fantastic addition.”

Emma helped Sky win a Bafta by anchoring coverage of last year’s attack on Glasgow airport.

Fiona Phillips has admitted that she is struggling to find TV work following her decision to quit GMTV.

The 48-year-old presenter made her final appearance on the breakfast show in December last year, vowing to spend more time with her family and pursue new projects.

However, Phillips has since discovered that broadcasters are reluctant to invest in fresh formats due to the impact of the recession.

Speaking to the Daily Express, she explained: "It was a pretty silly time to give up a big job. In one week I lost two programmes lined up for April and May and a Channel 4 teatime show in June, all because of money. There aren't many people commissioning things. If I'd been paid for every meeting I'd been in, I'd be a multi-millionaire."

Phillips also suggested that her age could be working against her, claiming that women over 40 are facing an uphill struggle in the industry.

She said: "You only have to look at the male-female pairings. Who's the ancient one and who's the one barely out of nappies? Men run television. They have this thing in their heads that you have to have some young, sexy woman and an older man."

The star joined GMTV as an entertainment reporter in 1993 before becoming the programme's main anchor two years later.

Kate Garraway has reportedly threatened to quit her GMTV job if her wages are cut.

The presenter, who is pregnant with her second child, is due to have her contract renewed next month.

According to The Mirror, she is outraged over suggestions to cut her £280,000 salary by around £70,000.

FGS, I wish I would EARN £70,000, never mind moaning about having to do without it from a nice pay packet.
