The apocalypse is almost here! The BBC's long-awaited fresh adaptation of Survivors begins this Sunday (and as regular readers will know, Tube Talk loves it), so in preparation, here's a guide to the show's main characters. As the series starts, a highly contagious flu virus is spreading with alarming pace around Britain...
Abby Grant (Julie Graham)
Abby put her career on hold to look after 11-year-old son Peter when he was diagnosed with leukaemia. Peter has since successfully defeated the disease and Abby and husband David have allowed him to go on an adventure holiday in the countryside with his schoolmates. Strong-willed and caring, Abby would be a natural choice of leader in the aftermath of the virus.
David Grant (Shaun Dingwall)
Brave and determined, Abby's partner David is a self-employed builder who always puts his family first. The couple are just returning from a break in Spain when news of the virus begins to spread. How will David cope when everyone around him starts to fall ill?
Tom Price (Max Beesley)
Tom Price is a dangerous man. Incarcerated in a high-security prison, Tom is the only man not to fall ill as his fellow inmates drop like flies around him. Eventually, left alone with just one resolute security guard, his mind is fixed on getting out. Will he be trapped inside forever?
Jenny Collins (Freema Agyeman)
Bright young primary school teacher Jenny returns home to find her flatmate Patricia suffering from the virus and deteriorating rapidly. Determined to save her life, Jenny insists that the pair make their way through the chaos of the streets to the local hospital. But nothing can prepare her for what she discovers on arrival.
Dr. Anya Raczynski (Zoë Tapper)
Young doctor Anya is faced with the effects of the virus head on. As her hospital is flooded with patients seeking help, Anya realises that there is nothing she can do to help. There is no vaccine, no cure - no hope. So how will she react when Jenny arrives with her good friend Patricia?
Greg Preston (Paterson Joseph)
Greg is perhaps the best equipped to deal with the aftermath of the virus. Formerly a systems analyst for a big company, he dreamed of living a back-to-basics lifestyle, independent from the rest of the world. His spoilt wife did not share his vision for the future, however, little realising that it would soon become a reality...
Samantha Willis (Nikki Amuka-Bird)
A junior minister, Samantha is tasked with handling the press as the virus hits. But as the situation rapidly worsens, the media get increasingly restless and inquisitive. With the key figures of government gradually being wiped out, how will Samantha be able to maintain public order? And is she prepared to handle some shocking truths?
Al Sadiq (Phillip Rhys)
Wealthy playboy Al is out partying, despite governmental warnings to stay indoors. After spending a night with a girl he meets in a club, Al is forced to come face to face with the severity of the situation. Shocked, he gets into his flash sports car and drives away as fast as he can...
Najid (Chahak Patel)
On the night of the crisis, 11-year-old Najid goes with his family to the local mosque to pray. When he wakes up the following morning, he is startled to find that everyone around him is dead. With no-one to turn to, he wanders the streets alone - but then hears the sound of a flash sports car coming his way...
