MINDER actor Shane Richie is to guest star in New Tricks — alongside the Eighties classic’s original favourite Dennis Waterman.
The ex-EastEnder, 44 — star of the remake Minder is to play what is tipped to be a “lovable rogue” in the BBC1 drama hit about old-timer cops.
With Dennis, 60, leading the New Tricks cast — in his biggest role since playing long-suffering minder Terry McCann in the much-missed ITV drama — it will be the perfect chance for Shane to get hints for Five’s revamped version.
A source said: “It’s a brilliant coup to have the two Minders on telly together.
“And it gives Shane a chance to grill Dennis for tips.”
It was announced earlier this year that the star will play Cockney wideboy Archie Daley — nephew of dodgy Arfur (George Cole) — in the remake. His minder, Jamie Collins, will be sexy newcomer Lex Shrapnel, 28, in the series to air next year.
Meanwhile the BBC is writing the New Tricks part specially for the actor, best known as Albert Square’s Alfie Moon.
Our insider said: “He’ll bring oodles of charm and we’re going to write him the best part possible.”
