CORRIE wheeler-dealer Pam Hobsworth’s life is left hanging by a thread after an explosion in a pigeon loft.
The New Year episode sees the Street celebrate with a fireworks display — but Pam has to contend with a much nastier blast.
Pam (Kate Anthony) and sidekick Darryl Morton (Jonathan Dixon) have been trying to sell cooking oil as their own brand of “biofuel”.
But Jack Duckworth (Bill Tarmey) finds out they have been storing the dodgy stuff in his bird loft and angrily orders them to move it.
When Pam loses the key, she decides to force the padlock off with a drill . . . and all hell breaks loose.
A Corrie source said: “When Pam comes to move the fuel, sparks fly from the drill and the biofuel catches fire, causing an almighty explosion.
“There are flames and feathers everywhere.”
But due to the fireworks at the Rovers Return, the rest of the Street don’t notice the explosion — at first.
And as the credits roll, Darryl is blasted into the air, while Pam lies unconscious.
Our insider added: “Viewers will see Darryl stirring as he lands. But it looks more serious with Pam.
“Viewers have warmed to her quirky character so they’ll be on tenterhooks to see if she survives. It’s a great cliffhanger to go into 2009 with.”
