Maybe by killing Ben the right side will win... we don't know.. we were lead to believe that Widmore was a big part of Dharma but we found he was a hostile when he was 17...

But Daniel said you can't change the future.. what happens happens... He said that time is like a street, you can go up and down it but you can't make a new street from the old one... maybe Ben will still be alive.. is that what he meant when he said he was born on the island.. he died but came back to life with the help of the island and that is why Richard chose him to be the leader?
