EastEnders star June Brown has collected her MBE at Buckingham Palace.

The 81-year-old actress, who plays Dot Cotton on the BBC One soap, learned that she would be receiving the honour for her services to drama and charity in the summer.

Speaking after picking up the honour today, Brown admitted that she had found the experience "quite remarkable".

She added: "Dot would have been absolutely delighted. She's a great royalist and a fairly good Christian. She wavers off but so do we all."

Brown has become a TV favourite since making her EastEnders debut in 1985. She is also the president of the Michael Elliott Trust, which gives children with special needs an opportunity to care for abandoned donkeys.

Talking about her future with the soap, she said: "Actors don't retire. Not unless they've lost their faculties."

Well done, June, you deserve this award
