It will have to bee Obama. In the metro the other day they had a poll about fictional Presidents and David Palmer from 24 got the most votes for the best Black President America never had.
Lets hope the election mirrors our poll :)
Congratulations to Barack Obama, he is now the 44th President of the United States of America. I think he might be in for a rough ride though.
What a historic night!
The first black president of the USA!
And a democrat, again, at last!
There has to be a huge surge of hope around the world.
He has got impossible expectations to live up to, two wars and a ruined world economy to face... and a country where the people who don't agree with you all carry guns :(
Please let them all give him a chance.

I'm really glad that he's been voted in. Any more of George Bush's policies and that country would be in an even worse state than it is now. I know Bush wouldn't have been in anyway after this but if John McCain had been voted in then it would be similar.

I was in tears watching him give his speech in my home state (Illinois), I know he has a big CLEAN UP (war, economy( ie jobs etc), health care , and yes give him a chance, lets hope he includes some good people in his adminstration to bail America out.
I was up till 7 am this morning:D
i'm actually suprised he got in, with all the redneck states against him, but i'm certainly glad he's made it - hopefully good times ahead for the world, and a fight against racism, times are changing for the better I feel.
I'm sure he will do a better job than Bush, but that's not saying much is it?
We were talking about Obama in class yesterday as we'd been watching Oliver Stone's JFK and the majority of the class had a bad feeling that Obama would be shot within his first month of term, I really hope this isn't the case but I do sense an uneasy feeling about it all...
sorry Bry.. you made me laugh.. taking about "redneck" and then saying about fight against Racism.. Redneck is a racist word

I have got the same feeling, Bry and said to my OH today that he probably needs more close protection than any other US President. :ninja:
Will.i.am is releasing a song and video to mark Barack Obama's landslide victory in the US Presidential elections.
The Black Eyed Peas singer spent election night putting together the finishing touches to 'It's A New Day', which will debut on Wednesday through the Dipdive website.
The song is described as "a tribute" to the American people and their part in the events. "The whole thing is really for people to leave testimonials... to create a page and leave testimonials on how they feel about this American accomplishment," the rapper said of the project.
Earlier this year, Obama recorded 'Yes We Can' in support of Obama's Presidential bid. A third song, 'We Are The Ones', has also been recorded, the video for which includes cameos from George Lopez and Jessica Alba.

Shiv,,, the word REDNECK is considered to be RACIST in America. At least where I came from, I know there are alot of American readers on SB they may disagree with me, but as an American ,,I say it is a RACIST statement
i aplogise if anyone took offence to it, i didnt know it was racist

Not offended at all.. just thought it was ironic...
Well if it any concillation I don't think that there are many people here who would be offended at you calling a certain section of the American population rednecks.
It is a kind of racist stereotype of 'white trash' (Yes, I know - also racist).
Im really glad he got it :D I mean I dont understand everything about how things are run and things like that, but what I do understand is that people want change and in out modern world I think ok experience is good but with someone like obama is just as great.

So glad he won, so was everyone at college too! :cheer: Congrats Obama! :cheer:
I did American Politics in my A Levels, so i was addicted to the TV last night. Yup, i was still awake at 5am watching BBC News, because i'm cool like that.
I think Obama deserved to win. He has a tough battle ahead of him, but i think he has the best team for the job. John McCain has lots of old-school ideals which i don't think would help improve America in these modern times.
It's amazing to see history happen. Just 50/60 years ago, when racism and segregration were at there worse, no one could ever have imagined that this would happen. That someone can be elected on the benefits of them as a candidate, rather than being put aside because of the colour of their skin. Hopefully this will signal a change across the world. Not just in terms of skin colour, but also break down the barriers of age/sex/religion that exist in politics today. David Cameron said that Obama is the first of a new generation of world leaders. I hope he is right.

One of John McCain's mistakes was describing the economy as fundamentally sound just before the financial crash. His ultimate undoing though was appointing Sarah Palin as his running mate, in my opinion. It brought his judgement into serious question and, as Jack Cafferty put it, if McCain was elected then the USA would be "a 72 year old's heartbeat away" from having Palin as President.

I agree, she wasn't a good choice at all. She has even less experience of national politics than Obama! I think she needs another term as Governor, then at least a couple in the Senate before she would be ready for president. Rumour has it that she is preparing for the Republican 2012 nomination already. I don't think she stands a chance, unless she undergoes a major change.

I think I can see why he chose her but whatever he was thinking backfired spectacularly.
