Bosses at ITV have scrapped the traditional Christmas party for the Coronation Street cast.

A James Bond-themed bash was scheduled to take place at Manchester's 235 Casino on December 12, but officials have decided to cancel it as a cost-cutting exercise.

"Everyone was looking forward to getting dressed up in black tie and Bond-girl glamour," a show insider told The People.

"It should all have been paid for by Granada - but they cancelled it rather than ask people to pay for themselves."

The source added that the cast is "up in arms" about the cancellation, saying: "Some of them are even suggesting they start working to rule from January by refusing to do any more than ten hours a day filming - even if it means abandoning scenes halfway through."

Are they having money problems or something?

To be honest who care s?:searchme:

Most Christmas lunches/nights out are paid for by the people who go to them, and there are many people at the moment who are struggling/in danger of losing their jobs.

Why is it that the more people have the more they expect to get for nothing?

Are they having money problems or something?

It seems that way...Surely they can afford a Christmas party?

I believe that ITV sacked about 400 staff as a result of the credit crunch. Paying for a Christmas party will be a big :nono: for most companies that used to treat their staff in the past. But I am sure that the soap stars can afford to pay for their party themselves.

It makes me sick to see people being paid huge salaries ( £1M +), huge bonuses etc when other people are losing their jobs and livelihoods.

CORRIE stars have organised two Christmas parties of their own – after cost-cutting bosses cancelled the show’s official bash.
Actors Antony Cotton (Sean Tully), Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs) and Vicky Binns (Molly Compton) arranged the dos after the James Bond-themed party was axed.

Tupele Dorgu – Kelly Crabtree on the ITV1 soap – said: “Everyone was disappointed. But now we’ve got more parties than ever.”

ITV axed all Christmas bashes to save cash in the economic downturn.

Executive John Whiston gave the all-clear to staff holding parties – as long as they paid for them.

FED-UP Coronation Street stars have been hit by the credit MUNCH — after bosses scrapped their free food and drink during filming.

After this Friday, there will no longer be a catering van on set dishing out tea and bacon butties to cast and crew.

Instead, actors such as Tupele Dorgu and Helen Flanagan — who play Kelly Crabtree and Rosie Webster — will have to go to Granada TV’s busy canteen and queue to buy their own.

Some stars are so livid at the cutback — the latest in a string by credit crunch-hit ITV — that they are threatening a work to rule which could disrupt their tight filming schedules at the Manchester studios.

A source said: “The whole cast are up in arms — they’re absolutely furious.

“Filming on Corrie isn’t easy. It’s long hours and the actors spend a lot of time outdoors.

“Having the van meant they could eat between takes and warm up with a cup of tea.

“They have always considered the butty wagon was part of their employment package.”

The Sun told earlier this month how bosses had axed the Corrie Christmas party — forcing cast and crew to fork out for their own booze-up.

The source added: “Having the party cancelled was deeply resented, but taking away the food facility is far worse.

“It makes people feel they’re being singled out for cuts which won’t save much money in the grand scheme of things.”

The source added: “Some stars have hinted they’ll take regular, time-consuming food and drink breaks. This would throw schedules into chaos.”

A cast member told The Sun: “What a way to wish us Merry Christmas.”

I know people who are being made redundant. I know people whose pay is being cut 20% with no notice. I know old people who are struggling to pay their heating bills. I know people who have lost their job, been very lucky and got another one but are worried how they can afford Christmas for their 7 year old because they won't get paid until January.

I buy my own lunch and I have no sympathy at all for these whingers. There are lots of people who work outside in all weathers, if the want hot tea they take a flask.

I would have thought that the butty wagon could still come around to where they are filming, saving time of the cast having to queue in the canteen, but they should pay for their food and drink, there is no such thing as a free lunch.
