Max returns to the Square
Airs on Monday, November 24 2008 at 20:00 GMT on BBC One

Max is awake at the hospital and tries to find out what happened to him. He's becoming more and more frustrated with the doctor's advice and is determined to get better as quickly as possible. Later, Jack visits Max and the conversation soon turns when Max directly asks his brother if it was he who tried to kill him. Aggravated by his response, Max demands that Jack bring the kids to see him. After Jack leaves, refusing to let the kids visit, D.I. Keeble drops in on Max at the hospital and asks him if he ever felt he was in any physical danger from Tanya. With the memories of the coffin flooding back, Max reluctantly replies 'no'.

Later, Max discharges himself from the hospital and returns to the Square, much to Abi's delight. Jack and Lauren, however, aren't too pleased to see him. As Max uses Abi to secure his place in the house, Jack tries to use Lauren against him. As an argument ensues, Lauren looks on from the top of the stairs. Jack is forced to hand his brother the keys to the house and reluctantly leaves Lauren, Abi and Oscar in Max's care.

With Jack out of the house, Max asks Lauren why she's avoiding him and she eventually tells him that it's because he made Peter break up with her. Max apologises and Lauren softens slightly towards her father. However, when asked by Max if he deserves what happened, she replies 'yes' and runs upstairs.

Elsewhere, Suzy hints to Phil about her birthday; Whitney's getting to the end of her tether at having to look after the kids again; Lucas and Denise have an awkward conversation on the Square; Ian sets Lucy a challenge of getting £1,000 together by the end of the week and he'll double it; Phil turns to Shirley for advice on Suzy's birthday present; Chelsea and Lucas go for a meal, resulting in Chelsea running off; Vinnie takes delivery of a Ford Mustang; Tiffany's scouring for sponsorship for her sponsored silence; Lucy counts up £220; and Vinnie asks Callum to leave Walford with him, which Shirley overhears.

Max visits Tanya in prison
Airs on Tuesday, November 25 2008 at 19:30 GMT on BBC One

Max is looking after the kids at the Branning household and on opening the front door, Dot's startled to see him. She immediately questions his ability to look after the children when he looks like he's in no fit state. She reluctantly agrees to watch the kids while Max visits Tanya. At the prison, it's visiting day and Tanya sees Max waiting for her, but refuses to have any contact with him. When Max returns, Dot tells him that Jack's popping around later to pick up the rest of his belongings. Dot's not surprised in the slightest when Max tells her that Tanya didn't want to see him. Max is surprised that Dot's condoning Tanya's actions, but Dot reassures him that she doesn't agree with what she did, merely that her actions were not beyond understanding.

Later, Max goes to return the rest of Jack's things and tells him to steer clear of him and the kids from now on. Ronnie walks in on their argument and can't believe that Jack has left Max with the children in his state. Tanya agrees to see Dot at the prison and is stunned to hear that Jack has moved out of the house. Dot suggests that Tanya speak to Max and put the kids first for once.

Tanya finally agrees to see Max and tells him to stay away from the kids. Max, however, insists that they're safe where they are - with their father. When Max pushes Tanya for an admission that she was responsible for the hit-and-run, she can't say it - what's Tanya hiding?

Elsewhere, Tony hears that Lauren's pulled out of the table tennis tournament; Heather's upset when Shirley cancels their night out; Patrick and Denise discuss Yolande's successful move to Birmingham; Suzy celebrates her 42nd birthday and buys a tiny Chihuahua, much to Phil's annoyance; Shirley continues to dig at Phil and Suzy's relationship; Jack thanks Ronnie for letting him move in; Tony calls Lauren and invites her to a gig; Phil reluctantly sacks Shirley after an altercation with Suzy; and with Chelsea's help, Patrick decides to try to get Denise and Lucas back together.

Ricky walks in on Tony shouting at Whitney
Airs on Thursday, November 27 2008 at 19:30 GMT on BBC One

Lauren makes arrangements with Tony for the gig later that night. Later, Whitney walks in on Tony with the gig tickets but Tony turns the situation on its head and accuses her of spoiling the surprise he had planned for her. She apologises and reassures him that she'll wear something special for him. At the Brannings', Max notices that Lauren's overnight bag has a dressy outfit inside and confronts her over where she's planning on going. When she admits that she's going to a gig that Tony organised through the youth centre, Max is livid and grounds her. Over at R&R, Jack bumps into Lauren, who asks for his help…

Later, Max confronts Tony about taking Lauren to a gig, but Tony successfully digs himself out of a tricky situation when he pushes the blame onto Lauren - she was meant to get parental consent. Feeling foolish, Max informs Tony that she won't be going anyway because she's grounded. Inside R&R, Ronnie tries to make Max see sense - it was Tanya who tried to kill him. When Jack returns, Max warns his brother that he won't get away with what he's done. However, Max's attention is soon diverted when he sees Lauren and is left speechless when she tells him that she's moving in with Jack. He's further gutted when she defends Jack and expresses her pleasure at what Tanya tried to do to him.

After Whitney makes a real effort for Tony, he snaps at her and order her to remove the make-up. Crying, she scrubs the make-up off her face while Tony shouts at her. At that moment, Ricky walks in. Has Tony finally been rumbled?

Elsewhere, Max calls D.I. Keeble and wants to discuss his case; Shirley calls Dot to let her know that Heather's too unwell for work; Shirley has a day of surprises planned for Heather, most of which include cheese; Max tells Keeble that Tanya wasn't the one who tried to kill him; Tony tries to put Whitney off the idea of a 16th birthday party; Ian goes on an economy drive at the café but blames Bianca when the customers start complaining; Heather's upset when Vinnie lets slip that Shirley's leaving with him; Patrick, Chelsea and Libby set Denise and Lucas up on a date; Ricky agrees to double Tiffany's sponsor money if she's successful; Lucy reaches her £1,000 target, thanks to Bianca, but Ian's not impressed when he hears where the money's come from; and Heather tells Phil that Shirley still loves him.

Phil sleeps with Shirley
Airs on Friday, November 28 2008 at 20:00 GMT on BBC One

Whitney's waiting by the sink with tears streaming down her face and her make-up smeared across her face, while Ricky questions Tony as to what he's playing at. Ricky insinuates that Tony's reaction to 'catching Whitney sneaking out to a gig' was way over the top, but Whitney pleads with him not to tell Bianca about what's happened. Agreeing, Ricky threatens Tony - if he lays one finger on any of the kids again, he'll have him to deal with. Later, Lucas calls Tony to arrange a meeting. He wants him to talk to Lauren as she's dropped out of the youth club and thinks he can persuade her to rejoin. As he heads across to see Lauren, he bumps into Whitney, who apologises for last night.

Tony's looking for Lauren but he can't find her anywhere. As he's searching, he receives a message from Whitney saying she can't wait to be with him tonight. Later, while Whitney's waiting for Tony, Tony finds Lauren on Arthur's bench with a bag of chips. She eventually starts to talk about her family problems. She's finally found someone who'll listen…

Meanwhile, Heather insists to Phil that Shirley loves him but Phil refuses to listen, while Heather suggests that the revelation changes everything between them. When Phil later receives another message from Heather, he decides to 'pop out to do a bit of business'. At Shirley's house, Phil hands over her outstanding wages, while Suzy's back at the house looking through Phil's phone. She looks on, a plan formulating in her mind. Later, as Suzy tries to seduce Phil, Heather turns up again to talk about Shirley.

Later, Phil turns up at Shirley's to talk about her moving away. She's cool with him and suggests that she has no reason to stick around. Goading him into making a move, Phil and Shirley eventually become embroiled in a passionate embrace and they move to the bedroom. Afterwards, Phil makes a speedy exit, leaving Shirley sobbing on her bed. Who does Phil want? Shirley or Suzy?

Elsewhere, Lucy comes clean as to how she managed to get her hands on the £1,000, leaving Ian thinking his daughter's a genius; Denise has arranged another date with Lucas; Chelsea and Libby help Denise prepare for her date; Phil reassures Ricky that he probably read too much into the situation with Tony and Whitney; Ben's upset when he hears that Shirley's leaving Walford; Lucas and Denise head to the club for their date; Tiffany's upset when Whitney causes her to speak during her sponsored silence; after returning all of the money, Lucy tells Ian that she's going to run against Peter in the school elections

The Branning war gathers pace next week as injured Max makes a shock return to Walford.

He wakes from a coma to discover his wife Tanya has been charged with his attempted murder.

So Max discharges himself from hospital and it is not long before he reignites his feud with brother Jack (Scott Maslen, 37).

The two men square up to each other as Max (Jake Wood, 36) kicks Jack out of the family home and moves in himself.

With Tanya (Jo Joyner, 30) in jail, Max wastes no time in getting his feet firmly back under the table.

Jack is forced to move back into his flat with old flame Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Janus, 36).

A show insider said: “Max is like a man on a mission, he wants to unite his family once and for all.

“He doesn’t believe Tanya tried to kill him, so pulls out all the stops to convince the police.”
