View Full Version : David Tennant quits
He announced on the NTAs that he has quit Doctor Who, and won't be doing anymore after the 2009 specials.
Which is not unsurprising really!!
I love David Tennant in Doctor Who, but he's done it for ages, would be good to see someone else take over.
So who do you want?
Callum Blue for 11th Doctor :D Because he is relatively unknown still, even though he has had lots of acting experience. Which is pretty similar to David Tennant, really. And he is very good looking

I thought he would do the 2010 series and then go. I've always wondered how long he would stay since there was the report about him leaving before Series 3 had even aired.

talk about a perfect time to make an anouncement!
In a way it's better we hear it from him than in the press; it shows he has a lot of respect for his fans because he didn't leave them to find out in the papers.
I was like this
Can't believe he is leaving :( I really hoped he'd do the next series first :(
Shame, but he has done it for 3 odd years now, he cant stay there forever!
Good acceptance speech apart from that :) Glad he won, although i do agree that Catherine Tate should get one :p
David Tennant has alot of respect for his fans and by annoucing it last night was the best way to do it :)
Sad to see him go, but surely he can only go on to bigger and better things :)
about time he moved on and let someone else take over the role. i never rated him that much as a doctor anyways. can't wait to see who replaces him.
:crying: Im really sad, I was in total shock when he said that last night!!!!!!
I think I'm more sad now than when I found out. So glad he's still doing the specials though; we have some good stuff still to come before he goes.
It really wont be the same, it would have been nice to have on more series with him, for us to know it would be the last with him and yes the specials are great but not the same, they better be proper 1 hour long sepcials!!!

Yeah it would. I had a feeling in Journey's End that that would be the last 10th Doctor/Rose that we would see but I didn't think it would be the last episode within a series that David Tennant did. Yeah I assume they will be an hour each but obviously the longer the better. And what I want to know is is the Christmas one counted as one of the four specials, because it wouldn't be 2009 then. In the article I read earlier it sounded like one of the specials was going to be aired at the start of 2010 too.
I read that they're thinking that John Simm (The Master) or someone that's in the 2008 Christmas Special could be the next Doctor. That's just ridiculous!

I was filling up all over again when they showed that clip with Rose and the two doctors on the beach. When he made the speech I wasn't too surprised as there had been a lot of spectulation but I will miss David as the doctor. It only feels like yesterday that we were all on here discussing how he could possibly replace Chris Eccleston and yet we are all devasted at the news. How about bringing back Dr Donna.
YEH CATHERINE TATE AS DOCTOR DONNA :cheer: :)
Its gonna be so sad, I mean its good that his last series finale in a way was series 4 with that amazing last episode, I just hope the specials are really good so its a good way for him to leave.
Its just a shame cos series 5 is gonna be like a complete new team im worried it wont be the same

Yeah I want to know when these 4 specials are. So theres gonna be 4 in 2009.
So does that mean on top of these 4, we have 1 xmas one, later this year 2008 and what about the one for children in need, are they not doing one?
That is a thought. I was talking on MSN last night to someone from another forum who told me about David Tennant quitting. No one ever thought Rose or Donna would be back and we were surprised by them, so he could appear as the Human Doctor one day. The only way a Doctor's been able to come back before was in that Time Crash special thing.
I didn't watch when the Doctor regenerated the last time, but I think it'll be harder for us to adjust to someone else taking over as Chris only did one series and David will have done three plus the specials.
I don't know if I'll be watching after David Tennant goes. I'm not keen on Moffat for putting the Doctor with random women anyway and then he slagged off Rose like that and said Billie Piper couldn't come back again.
Layne I'm surprised you haven't posted in that thread about Donna coming back yet. I don't think you have anyway.
:D yay! I never thought that maybe some how he could come back as the human doctor :p well I can dream :p

I will really miss David Tennant not being the Doctor, but I do think it's the right time for him to move on and I can't wait to hear who will fill his shoes.
As long as they don't wreck his exit by bringing him back a year or so later, like they've done with other characters.

It won't surprise me since Moffat hates Rose so much if he kills her off off screen and then has the Human Doctor come back to tell the time lord one. He clearly likes David Tennant as the Doctor after he was offered 1.5 million to do Series 5.

 I loved rose! I was so glad when she came back, I just loved her even more :p

Me too. I was not impressed when I saw that article of Steven Moffat slagging the character off.

He always said that he would like it to be a clean slate. No more Rose, Donna, Martha, Jack, no one. It wouldn't surprise me if the companion from series 5 is someone from the specials, but it definately won't be a past companion.
David Morrisey is still a name that is being thrown around a lot for the 11th Doctor. He is in the Christmas special (Called 'The Next Doctor') and he is playing the Doctor. Rumour is that the Doctor will meet a future incarnation, rather than a past one which has happened in the past.
Personally, i'd rather it was someone more unknown. David Tennant was only really known for Casanova when he got the part, and he worked really well. Billie Piper and Freema Agyeman were unknown in the acting world, John Barrowman wasn't that famous on screen, and Catherine Tate was famous for her comedy, rather than acting. So really, only Christopher Ecclestone was an established film/screen actor. Getting someone more unknown to do it (Like Jonas Armstong, even) would be best i think.
David Tennant was never going to hang around forever. I did wonder if he would do another series, as many of the old doctors went on for years, but i don't think its that realistic considering that he is a stage actor, and doing Hamlet probably makes him want to go back to that again. Him leaving won't make me stop watching, because its a TV show that thrives on change. And come on, Steven Moffat is going to be writing it. No matter who the actors are, its bound to be amazing with his writing.
Came across this:

Also found that there's 4 specials plus the Christmas one for this year.

HAHA - is it that obvious i love her! I posted this earlier in the thread :p
YEH CATHERINE TATE AS DOCTOR DONNA :) :cheer:
And this was from the other thread
I am glad i love Catherine Tate as Donna, although i do get where everyone is coming saying its a bit soon - her dramaticy exit and then all of a sudden she is back - although no complaining :p
And Wilf WOOOOOOO! :cheer:
I am glad as i LOVE her :) Wondering how they will do it, and i am a bit :| because her exit was heartbreaking - but im sure they will do it in a tasteful way
I agree Abi; i think someone unknown/not very well known will be good :) Works better, and new companion too, or maybe one thats been in the specials, i don't want an old companion ALTHOUGH Captain Jack should come back for a bit
