BBC medical drama Casualty could be moved from its current filming location in Bristol to Cardiff as part of the BBC's 'out of London' strategy.

It has been reported that the BBC aims to create a drama centre in the Welsh capital, which also hosts filming locations for other BBC One shows including Doctor Who and Torchwood.

The BBC's director of vision, Jana Bennett, is expected to deliver a keynote speech entitled 'BBC Beyond the M25' to the Royal Television Society tonight.

By 2016, it is hoped that 60% of all BBC productions will be made outside of London.

A BBC spokeswomen said: "We cannot comment until later on today."

I read this earlier in the year and yesterday read that this is going to happen. What I don't get though - Bristol is outside of London, so why on earth could the filming not stay where it was - there's been nothing wrong with it so far has there?!

Apparently the Weakest Link is going up to Glasgow - they've moved things all over the place.

It's all fine and well moving to different locations because of costs but what if it is not suitable for cast members. Its hard enough for cast members to travel from London to Bristol to do filming but what if they have to travel to Cardiff. It wouldn't be too bad if Casualty and Holby were only on for two or three months a year but they are on almost for the 52 weeks. That is one of the main reasons Pasty Kensit left Emmerdale as she was having to commute between London and Yorkshire everyweek.

Apparently its only a proposal, and even if they did move it, it would be about 4 years before they do. I hope they don't though. Casualty's been filmed in Bristol for 20 odd years, so its sentimental value if nothing else. If it moved we'd likely have a mass exodus of characters like we did a while ago when half the cast seemed to leave in quick succession! It doesn't need to be moved especially does it? Why fix it if it ain't broke?
