Monday 20 October
Doug (Duncan Preston) is upset when Ashley (John Middleton) and Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) go and visit the Leeds church. Edna (Shirley Stelfox) is horrified at their decision and gathers a group in the pub to discuss an action plan. The villagers unite to save the church by setting up a church choir to enter a regional competition. Edna is unimpressed when the idea takes on a life on its own. Laurel and Ashley return and are baffled to witness the villagers’ rendition of a Beatles classic as Sam (James Hooton) proclaims they’re saving the church.
At the hospital, Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) is upbeat and looking forward to his discharge. However, Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) brings him down to earth with a bump, by informing him that Jo (Roxanne Pallett) doesn’t want him back at the farm. Short of somewhere to live, Andy begrudgingly accepts Diane’s offer to stay at the pub. However, Val (Charlie Hardwick) furiously tells her sister that it’s not going to happen. When Diane prepares to tell Andy the bad news, she’s thrown when the psychiatrist at his evaluation mentions the importance of family.
Meanwhile, Pearl (Meg Johnson) gets an assortment of highbrow novels from the library in an attempt to impress Turner (Richard Thorp). Betty (Paula Tilbrook) mocks Pearl after she hides her tacky novel inside War and Peace, to impress Turner. Softening, Betty advises Pearl never to be something she’s not.
Tuesday 21 October
Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) collects Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) from hospital and he’s angered when Diane refuses to allow him to see Jo (Roxanne Pallett). They arrive back in the village and Andy begins to attract judgemental glances from his neighbours. Val (Charlie Hardwick) and Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) react badly to Andy moving into the Woolpack, while the Dingles warn Diane to keep him out of sight.
At Butlers, Jo tells Debbie (Charley Webb) that she fears the Sugdens will try and force her out of the farm. When Diane comes round Debbie makes it clear that Andy won’t get his own way and refuses to let him see their daughter. Debbie returns to the Woolpack with Diane and reiterates her feelings to a humiliated Andy. Can Andy find another way to get access to his daughter?
Meanwhile, the Church choir get together for a first practise as rumours grow about their competitors greater vocal talents. Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) stops by, clearly trying to get the low-down on the structural integrity of the building. Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) pleads with Nicola to help her with the dreadful choir. Although she refuses to sing, Nicola agrees to be in charge of organisation.
Elsewhere, Paddy (Dominic Brunt) receives a postcard from Donna and Marlon and tells Ross (Samuel Anderson) they will be back the following day. Ross is distracted, awaiting Donna’s return and is pleased to hear she’s returning to work as well. Shane (Paul McEwan) hears the news and taunts Ross about Donna’s return. When he receives a text from Donna requesting a meeting, Ross is anxious.
Wednesday 22 October
Donna (Verity Rushworth) and Marlon (Mark Charnock) arrive home and while Paddy (Dominic Brunt) is pleased to engineer dinner for four to spend time with Chas (Lucy Pargeter), Donna worries about her meeting with Ross (Samuel Anderson). She’s frustrated when Ross gets stuck on a job at work. However, later Ross returns in the middle of their meal and is gutted when Marlon announces that they are trying for a baby. Ross gets Donna alone and tells her he still loves her and thinks she’s making a mistake.
Elsewhere, Jo (Roxanne Pallett) struggles with the farm and Sarah (Sophia Amber Moore) but is pleased when Diane (Elizabeth Estensen) arrives to help. Jo agrees that Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) can take Sarah for the day as long as he is supervised by Diane. She also demands that Andy returns his house keys. Andy is over the moon, despite having to surrender his keys. But Debbie (Charley Webb) is angry with Jo for ignoring her feelings. Jo retorts, insisting that it’s Debbie’s fault she doesn’t have any legal rights to Sarah.
Also, Anna (Emma Davies) flirtatiously asks Matthew (Matt Healy) to give her a tour of the Home Farm grounds. Arriving at the lake, Anna persuades Matthew to take her out on it. Matthew rows the boat but topples overboard, soaking himself. Anna laughs and Matthew pulls her into the water too. Later Matthew throws his ruined watch in the bin but Anna retrieves it.
Thursday 23 October
Matthew (Matt Healy) is pleased when Anna (Emma Davies) offers to cook for him at Home Farm. Over lunch Anna presents Matthew with an exact replica of the broken watch. Touched, Matthew admits it was a 21st present from Tom. As they emotionally discuss their fathers, Anna kisses Matthew and they end up in bed. Afterwards Anna presses too far when asking about a new business deal and a clued-up Matthew demands she leave. However, a desperate Anna recovers the situation and kisses Matthew passionately. Anna relays the information she heard to Donald but is torn over her feelings for Matthew. Carl (Tom Lister) grills Matthew who insists he’s got the measure of Anna.
Elsewhere, Donna (Verity Rushworth) is nervous about returning to work but gets an ovation from her colleagues. When Donna is put on desk duty, Shane (Paul McEwan) is quick to offer to swap shifts so she’s on the beat again with Ross (Samuel Anderson). Shane’s glee is all too evident to a worried Ross. After a shift spent in total silence Ross offers to find another partner but Donna refuses. Later, Shane tricks Ross into admitting something went on between him and Donna.
Meanwhile, Debbie (Charley Webb) gets Zak (Steve Halliwell) to try and stop Andy (Kelvin Fletcher) seeing Sarah (Sophia Amber Moore) but Jo (Roxanne Pallett) intervenes and a stand-off occurs. The ensuing argument upsets Sarah and Jo begs Zak to realise what he’s doing to his granddaughter. Later, Zak returns and offers Jo some help on the farm. Andy is overjoyed at being reunited with his little girl despite the condescension of other villagers. He goes with Diane to drop Sarah back at the farm but gets caught by Jo herding some cows back to their field. Jo publicly hands him suitcases of his clothes and tells a frustrated Andy that she’ll set the terms of his access to Sarah.
Friday 24 October
Anna (Emma Davies) grows uncomfortable as Donald (Michael Jayston) presses her to get more information on the Kings. Later, Matthew (Matt Healy) finds it difficult to hide his jealousy when Anna flirts with Tim (Ian Connaughton). Later, Anna secretly pockets a key to Pear Tree, nearly getting caught by Matthew and has to divert his suspicions with a kiss. She earns Donald’s gratitude by handing over the key but is clearly torn between her father and Matthew.
Elsewhere, Donna (Verity Rushworth) is embarrassed at being late for work after a baby-making session with Marlon (Mark Charnock). Shane (Paul McEwan) enjoys making Ross feel uncomfortable by taking him for a drink in the Woolpack in full view of Marlon’s romantic overtures towards Donna. Ross tries to warn him off but Shane claims he’s just trying to help him out as a friend.
Meanwhile, Katie (Sammy Winward) is sympathetic to Andy’s (Kelvin Fletcher) situation when she witnesses his isolation in the village. Andy confides in Katie about the violence with Jo and although disappointed by his behaviour, she offers support, seeing his desperation to stay near Sarah. Katie offers him work helping out at the stables, even defending him when Matthew expresses his disgust at the idea. Afterwards, Andy returns to the Woolpack and Diane is pleased to hear he’s got a job.
