Perhaps he was worried his acting would look wooden alongside a Dalek.
But last night it emerged that Prince Charles has turned down an invitation to appear on Dr Who.
The show's writer and executive producer Russell T Davies wrote to Clarence House asking if Charles would like to make a cameo appearance in the hit BBC drama.

Even though he is self-confessed 'big fan', Charles declined.
Speaking at the Cheltenham Literature Festival, Mr Davies OBE was indignant. He said: "He turned us down, the miserable swine."
Mr Davies has been credited with resurrecting Dr Who, which first aired in 1963, although he recently announced his tenure would end in 2009.
He was speaking to 2,000 sci-fi fans about his new book, Doctor Who: The Writer's Tale, when he revealed Charles had turned him down.
The Prince is not camera shy and has regularly appeared on television for interviews and documentaries.
Russell T Davies, the show's writer and executive wrote to Prince Charles asking him to appear in a cameo role, but he refused

In 2000 He made a guest appearance in a live episode of Coronation Street to mark the programme's 40th anniversary.
He famously read his own story 'The Old Man of Lochnagar' on children's programme Jackanory.
He has also agreed to star in a fly-on-the-wall documentary for his 60th birthday, which has already started filming, and will be shown in November.
A Clarence House spokeswoman said Charles did not turn the request down because he didn't actually get a chance to see it.
Was the prince worried his acting would appear wooden alongside a Dalek?
She said: "A letter was sent into the Prince of Wales' office and was dealt with on his behalf. We receive many request and it's impossible to accept them all."
The 10-day Cheltenham Literature festival, now in its 59th year, will see a host of political figures, writers, actors and comedians take part in more than 350 events across 20 different venues.
This year's line-up boasts the likes of actor and director Sir Richard Attenborough, former deputy prime minister John Prescott and comedienne Dawn French.
More than 88,000 tickets sold in advance of the event, which will see Nobel prize-winning author Toni Morrison, TV presenter Richard Madeley and former London mayor Ken Livingstone take the stage.
Whilst speaking last night Davies, 45, resisted giving away any secrets about the forthcoming specials or fifth series to the crowd.
He was joined on-stage by actor John Barrowman, who plays Captain Jack Harkness in the show, who said David Tennant was his favourite Doctor.
Previous guests on Dr Who have included singer Kylie Minogue, actress Felicity Kendall and comedian Catherine Tate, who went on to become the doctor's time-travelling companion.
