A teenager was rushed to hospital after a snake crawled on to her bed, wrapped itself around her neck and bit her on the arm.

16-year-old Ashlee Findlay was left shaken by the attack, which took place in her home in Northern Australia.

Findlay, who was already afraid of snakes, spiders, and centipedes, told The Northern Territory News that she awoke to find her worst nightmare being played out.

She said: "I thought it was a huge spider or something. I hate spiders. But a few seconds later, I felt something moving past my neck.

"I turned on my light to see this huge slithering snake on my pillow. I started screaming and woke everyone."

Her brother-in-law hit the snake on the head with a plank while her mother, a nurse, started treating the bite. Findlay was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital, where it was discovered that the snake was not venomous.

Professor Bart Currie was called to identify the species and described the incident as an "overambitious feeding attempt", adding that the snake probably thought the limb was a piece of wood.

  That would freak me out too, that is for sure.

Blimey. I'm not scared of snakes but that would freak me out too.!:lol:I remember going to Australia and there was this huge poisonous spider (although not deadly) in the bedroom. We slept in the sitting room that night..

You were able to sleep with that beast in the house  You are a lot braver than I would have been - the unwanted lodger would have had to be removed to outside before I would have been able to relax enough to sleep.

You should've seen the thing it was huge...much bigger than UK spiders I wasn't going near it. We shut the door and left a window open for it to escape but it didn't make an appearence again thankfully. :D
