View Full Version : C4 to air 11am teen sex show
CHANNEL 4 is to broadcast a sex education series aimed at teenagers at 11am, when small children could be watching.
KNTV Sex will tackle issues like contraception and sexual diseases.
The “journey of sexual discovery” has two cartoon teenagers who examine a topic each week.
C4 said teachers had been crying out for more content on sex education.
The ten-part series will be heavily “signposted” so parents could switch off.
The channel’s head of education Janey Walker said: “We feel we can defend the fact it is going out in the morning.”
Is this really necessary? Do any of you believe this is a good thing and required?

I believe that sex education is very important and I do feel this country does shy away from the topic of sex and its sex education in general is very poor (well it was in my school) so educating more children and teenagers on the topic is something that needs to be done, I think.
I am not sure if the 11am timeslot is entirely appropriate though. Young children would be watching at the time and I may be naive here, but aren't most teenagers in school at 11am in the morning?!
That is what I was thinking, the timing of the programme is totally wrong in my opinion. Some time after school has finished would be reaching far more teenager at whom this is aimed at. I wonder whether there will be loads of complaints from viewers about too explicit scenes, even if it is in cartoon form like there is with the present sex educational programme being aired by Channel 4 (can't remember what it is called right now)

It's a good idea, the sex education in my school was rubbish.
But they should really put it on later, teenagers are at school. They should put it on 5-6.
They're going to get complaints though no matter what time they put it on.

Marley is 10 years old and she is getting taught sex education at the moment although most of the time is spent giggling during the lesson. any information about sexual education is a good thing if it reduces the amount of underage pregnacies and sexual dieseases. however what is the point at airing the show when teenagers are or should be in school. If young parents get their knickers in a twist about young kids watching it then easy answer don't let children watch it.
Don't mean to be offensive but are they suggesting that by showing it a 11am when most kids should be at school, it is directing at the kids who bunk off and probably have teenage pregnancies?

i think the idea is that it should be used as a schools programme for them to show the appropriate age group at school but im sure little kids will end up watching it.

teen pregnancies dont just happen to the girls who bunk off school
teen pregnancies dont just happen to the girls who bunk off school
I know that.. I was asking if that is what the show was suggesting?
JUst happened to flick over and see this and i was shocked at how explicit it was.
If it's for teenagers then they're at school/college at this time, and if it's to be recorded for sex ed classes then show it later like the other school programmes
it seemed wrong having it on at 11 in the morning, and as the show was mostly in cartoon, if a little 4 year old was channel surfing then they'd think it's a cartoon
poor choice by channel 4 to show it at 11am!
Sounds very odd, not just the time, well yeah cos kids are at school but yeah if its like a cartoon

I saw this earlier in week and me and my friends thought it was hilarious just because it was a really immature way of explaining sex education. E.g. the Svets bit. I don't know why its aimed at teenagers, it seemed to be targeted for younger audience. Maybe it was just the episode but it didn't seem explicit, a bit inappropriate for 11am though.
And it is a cartoon. One is a girl that looks like one of those cartoon characters in Gorrilaz and the other had a sock on his head that has eyeholes. I remember the one with socks had an imaginary girlfriend that he broke up with. Hmmm...
