hay, im doing a media project based on soap operas.

Ive got this question and was wondering whether I could get some feedback from people..

it's: To what extent do soap operas show reality of youth in society?

Thanks,
kirsty:)

I personally think that soaps do reflect reality, not just of youth, but adults and old people in society. Some things obviously are not too lifelike, we all post on here when we find things too obvious or not realistic, but I believe that the scriptwriters write parts of the storylines a bit OTT to show that it is a make-believe show, played out by actors and not reality tv.

They do reflect a certain degree of youth society by addressing some issues that young people may feel embarrassed or frightened to discuss with parents, but they fail by solving the plots to quickly to move on to other topics. There is often no build up to a plot, like Chelsea's drug problem it was just BAM!! she's coke addict. and now she's cured.

I agree with this. And it some ways I think they do quite a good job like for instance if they show the concequences (sp?) of what happens like in the storyline in corrie when Kayleigh knew the lads that stole the money from Roy's cafe. I know that wasn't concequences so much but y'anno what i mean?
